Asien, insbesondere Indien, steht seit vielen Jahren im Fokus der Arbeit von Jugend Eine Welt.

Jungen Menschen eine Zukunft zu ermöglichen – durch Schule für Kinder, Ausbildung für junge Erwachsene, Arbeitsplätze für Eltern, Umweltschutz oder dem Kampf gegen Kinderarbeit – ist das Ziel der von Jugend Eine Welt geförderten Projekte.

Konkret sind es die Unterstützung von Straßenkinder-programmen, die Ausstattung von Berufsausbildungszen-tren, die Förderung von Umweltinitiativen, die Stärkung der Kinderrechte oder die Qualifizierung von lokalen MitarbeiterInnen, welche wir durch finanzielle Unterstüt-zung und der Vermittlung von Freiwilligen und Experten mit Ihrer Hilfe umsetzten.

Bewährter und langjähriger Partner in Asien sind die Salesianer Don Boscos mit ihren zahlreichen Projekten, Programmen und Initiativen. Eine Übersicht über die vielfältigen Angebote und Standorte unserer Partner gibt diese Broschüre des Don Bosco Network South Asia.

Empowering the Young at Risk

Sheila was born into a very poor family and was orphaned at an early age. Her

entire life was spent on streets and railway stations, doing odd jobs as a child

labourer in a silk processing factory. An unfortunate accident at the factory left

her without two of her fingers.

Don Bosco found her when she was ten; a stable, caring environment and a

good education transformed an aggressive Sheila into a content child. Today

she pursues her ITI training from Don Bosco, Prakashapalya, where she is

happy to learn and earn for herself.

Don Bosco Young at Risk (YAR) initiatives regularly rescue and support children

who are at any kind of risk, especially those on the streets, and child labourers.

These institutions open up new worlds for children like Sheila across India.

Empowered through child rights clubs, children become active advocates of

their own and other children’s rights.

Born into an economically backward family of 7, Abhijit could barely think of a

bright future. After completing a 3- month training in hospitality at Don Bosco,

Monsada, Abhijit faced his initial struggles to stay on the job that Don Bosco

found him. However, he managed to stay on and thanks the disciplined way of

life in Don Bosco for keeping him going, despite the mental battle to give up.

Don Bosco believes that when people learn skills, they not only earn their living,

but also learn respect for themselves and others! The Government of India has

recognised Don Bosco as the largest non-governmental provider of technical

education in the country.

In the year 2016, the Don Bosco IGP Project for rural women in Bicholim, opened a

door not just for my empowerment, but also gave me an opportunity to become the

voice of the women in Bicholim. I was previously engaged in a papad-making business,

earning a profit of Rs. 2000 every month. The trainings imparted as part of this project,

strengthened my income generation skills, and also taught that the real empowerment

of women lies in being politically and socially active. Thus, began my political journey as

a panchayat member, which has today culminated in my becoming the president of the

Mahila Morcha Dal, Sanquiliem constituency, North Goa.

Don Bosco reaches out to underprivileged women across India, working with

them to ensure sustainable social and financial development. Through the social

empowerment initiatives, many women like Unnati are empowered to become

The Don Bosco Green Alliance is a worldwide initiative with three priorities- to

combat pollution, reduce global warming and eliminate disposable plastic. For

this, Don Bosco institutions have partnered in global campaigns with the United

Nations. The Global Climate Action programme has taken shape starting with

greening of campuses; maximising the use of renewable energy, eliminating

food waste and the planting of a million trees in the next five years.

Don Bosco believes that environmentally sustainable living can be inculcated

best within the children and the youth. In this context, the network of Eco Clubs

and green movements encourage children to balance human needs with the

care and protection of the environment, evaluate lifestyle choices and promote a

green and clean world.
