As the accompanying Massachusetts

moment's historical perspective sets

out, almost 250 years ago in March

1776, Gen George Washington, com-

mander of the Continental army drove

the British army out of Boston. That

victory's success, was in large part en-

gineered by an energetic and visionary

young colonel named Henry Knox.

Knox, a Boston bookseller, had met

Washington in his headquarters in

Cambridge, after the battle of Bunker

Hill. General Washington was im-

pressed with the young colonel, and

his imaginative, daring and bold plan

to bring cannons and the implements

seized from the British at Ft Ticonder-

oga in New York State in the depths of

winter. Knox, by rendering assistance

to General Washington army's from

it's advantage on Dorchester Heights

ended the vaunted British Army's

siege of Boston.

It is therefore only fitting that

Colonel Knox's achievements are be-

ing recognized with the announcement

of a prestigious seven unit develop-

ment named in his honor and located

at his encampment site next to Dor-

chester Heights, and the historic mon-

ument memorializing the British

Army's surrender and evacuation of

Boston on March 17, 1776.
