General Information• Enrollment is open on a rst-come, rst-serve basis.• Classes are open to everyone age 16 and above. • Sixteen and 17 year olds may enroll with special permission in the

Basic Skills/High School Equivalency Diploma Program.• Registration and fee payment is required at the rst scheduled

meeting of the class. Insurance is required for some classes.• Southeastern also provides on-site job skills training and

literacy classes for area businesses and industries.The North Carolina eneral Assembly has set the following fees for Workforce Continuing Education Classes:

Fee Schedule$70 for 0 - 24 Hours of Instruction$125 for 25 - 50 Hours of Instruction$180 for 51 or More Hours of Instruction

Personal InterestAll personal interest classes are self-supporting. People enrolling in these courses are required to pay registration fees which are based on instructional costs associated with each class.Registration fees and supply costs associated with classes are subject to change without prior notice.

Method of Payment Fees may be paid by cash, check or money order.

RefundsRefunds for Workforce Continuing Education courses are made as follows: 100% if requested before a course begins or if the course is cancelled, 75% if requested after a course begins, but before 10% of the total class meetings. For more information, contact:(910) 788-6296.

Class CancellationSCC’s Workforce & Community Development Division reserves the right to cancel classes/seminars/workshops due to insuf cient pre-registration and/or enrollment. A course may be cancelled if fewer than ten (10) students enroll. Many classes require that you are in attendance the rst class meeting.

Continuing Education Units (CEU’s)Southeastern Community College awards Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for occupational extension classes. CEUs will be awarded for non-credit courses satisfactorily completed on the basis of one CEU for each 10 hours of instruction. Fractions of CEUs will be awarded; thus, a 24 hour course will earn the student 2.4 CEUs. CEUs will not be awarded to students who fail to satisfactorily complete a course.

Student TranscriptsStudents enrolling in workforce continuing education courses will have a permanent transcript on le at Southeastern Community College which lists all non-credit training taken through the college.• Occupational Extension/Personal Interest Transcript Request:

Students must complete a Continuing Education Transcript Request form located on the college website and in the Workforce & Community Development Division of ce in T-building.

Basics in Volunteer Management (Online)Issues in the management of volunteers, planning a volunteer program, managing personnel, developing and implementing policies and procedures will be covered in this course.

Beekeeping Take this introduction class to learn about starting and keeping a beehive. The course will cover the three types of bees, the bee nest, components of the hive, seasonal management, along with information about pests and diseases. At the end of this class, an inspection of SCC beehives will be offered. Participation for this activity is voluntary.

Effective Teacher Training/Active Shooter/BBPThis course is required to teach or substitute in Columbus County and Whiteville City School systems. Topics include: Developmentally Effective Teaching Strategies, Behavior Management, Classroom Management Strategies, Procedures for Emergency Situations, North Carolina Course of Study, North Carolina School Policy, egal Issues and more. 100% attendance required.

NC Real for Small Businessessing the NC REA (Rural Entrepreneurship through Action earning)

curriculum, participants will learn to start, expand and improve their own small business. Topics include: business plan creation, budgets, taxes and much more. No prior business experience is required.

Sign Language IStudents will focus on mastering ngerspelling, numbers, colors, facial grammar and sentence structure along with learning conversational/cultural behaviors necessary to hold a beginning-level conversation in sign language.

Sign Language II In Part II, you will continue to study everyday communication in every lesson. Topics revolve around sharing information about the world around us. rammar is introduced in context, with an emphasis on developing question and answering skills.

Grant Writing for the BeginnerAttend and learn the process for planning grants including research and organization requirements along with exploring terminology and essentials for successful written proposals. At the end of the course, students will have developed a written grant proposal abstract and a sample budget for a grant funding cycle.

Grant Writing (Advanced) This course is designed for individuals that are familiar with the grant writing process and want to learn how to write effective grant proposals that are essential to acquire grant funding from government agencies and private foundations. This in-depth class will provide participants the skills needed to develop and submit competitive funding proposals on an advanced level.

Culinary ArtsIntroduction to Culinary Arts: Quality Food ServicesThis course is designed to introduce the student to the fundamental concepts, skills, techniques, and principles used to gain employment in the food service industry. Areas of study include cooking methods, safe food handling, knife skills, kitchen terminology, recipe use, nutritional concepts, measurements, personal hygiene, proper use and care of equipment and proper work attire. Students will receive Serv-Safe certi cation in sanitation and safety regulations and Infant/Child/Adult CPR First Aid certi cation. Digital Photography Boot Camp – Part IInstruction will progress from basic camera operation to a solid foundation in the knowledge of today’s digital photography and equipment. Students will do weekly photo projects.

Digital Photography Boot Camp – Part IIThis class will build on the foundations of basic knowledge and is geared to the student who has a working understanding of the camera and exposure. Topics will cover the camera, digital work ow, exposure triangle, white balance and on camera ash as well as using natural light.

Events, Weddings and PortraitsPre-requisite: Basic PhotographyDesigned for students interested in professional techniques associated with venue and portrait photography, this class will cover events such as sports, concerts, and weddings. Students will identify the must have shots, correct equipment, checklists and how to effectively work with clients.

Defensive Driving (4 hr) $60This course demonstrates the consequences of poor choices that drivers make behind the wheel, putting defensive driving into personal context.

Classes are held on the Saturdays below from 8am-12n in T-120.

AGRIBUSINESS TECHNOLOGY

Agribusiness Technology will prepare students for employment in a variety of agribusiness

jobs such as store management, farm operations, wholesale and retail produce

management, and environmental and agricultural education. Students will learn the fundamentals of agriculture, with emphasis

placed on entrepreneurial and fi eld training, as well as the basics of our economic system andgovernment policies and programs relating to

agriculture.

COMPUTER-INTEGRATEDMACHINING

Associate in Applied Science

The Computer Integrated Machining Program curriculum is designed to develop skills in

the theory and safe use of hand tools, power machinery, computerized equipment and

sophisticated precision inspection instruments. Students will learn to interpret blueprints, set up manual and CNC machines, perform

basic and advanced machining operations and make decisions to insure that work quality is

maintained.

Graduates should qualify for employment as machining technicians in high–tech

manufacturing. Rapid prototyping and rapid–manufacturing industries, specialty machine shops, fabrication industries, and high–tech

emerging industries such as aerospace, aviation, medical, and renewable energy, and to sit for

machining certifi cation examinations.

North Carolina College Transfer Articulation Agreement

Comprehensive Articulation AgreementThe North Carolina CAA is a statewide agreement governing the transfer of credits between NC community colleges and NC public universities and has as its objective the smooth transfer of students.

Independent Comprehensive Articulation AgreementThe ICAA between the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) and the participating North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) is intended to provide smooth transfer for community college students who wish to continue their education at an NCICU Signatory Institution. The ultimate goal of this agreement is the seamless articulation from the community college to the NCICU institution with minimal loss of credit or repetition of work.
