Road Safety Commission message: FATIGUE
“You can drift in and out of sleep without knowing it. Sleep experts call this a microsleep and it can last between three and five seconds. These naps can be fatal and are the main cause of fatigue-related crashes where the driver runs off the road. These crashes are usually the most serious because the driver doesn't brake before hitting a tree, another car or the gravel.”
Welcome all to the 2019 Southern Solstice Dressage Weekend.
A big thank you to our generous sponsors:

• Road Safety Commission and please remember to thank them. Thank you also to our judges: Lisa Baker, Sonia de Berner, myself, Phoebe Johnson, Angela Shepherd & Andrew Forbes. Our judges are very happy to be approached for feedback and clarification of comments so come forward if you need help. The Road Safety Commission has again sponsored our event and the Safety message the Authority wishes you to consider is FATIGUE. As riders get up very early to get to the event, drive great distances and then compete, fatigue is always a factor when returning home. Please consider this in your weekend plan and decide to rest before you drive home. Another safety factor is vehicle and float safety and we have included a checklist in the program to guide you on what you should look for and do to transport yourself and your horses safely. Remember it is holiday time and there are a lot of visitors in the Great Southern at present. Extra time will be needed for your transport. I wish you all a wonderful weekend with your horses and friends.

Vehicle Check List
(This guide was originally prepared for the Albany RoadWise Committee by the Western Australia Police Great Southern Traffic Office.)
We can all do something to improve road safety.
The Vehicle Check Sheet is provided as a guide for vehicle owners and drivers to assess vehicle condition and roadworthiness on a regular basis.
The Vehicle Check Sheet should not take the place of regular mechanical inspections and servicing by qualified service agents and repairers. The listed checks should be conducted in accordance with manufacture’s guides and specifications and any subsequent repairs or work completed by qualified service agents and repairers.
Care should be taken when checking operational components of a vehicle to avoid injury.
Please consult manufacture’s guides or owner’s manuals.
The Vehicle Check Sheet is intended as a general guide, as such, some listed checks may not be relevant to every vehicle.
Regular checks of your vehicle are one way you can help.
