Statewide for the year at the end of April is the following: District A +21, District B -04, District C +5, District D -8, District E -20, District F -10, District G -44. As of last night, I looked on the LCI website and we gained two more members, so we currently are -18 members for the year. Earlier in the year we were -63. We made most of the gains in the month of April and have two months left to show a positive growth in membership for our District. I believe our District can welcome enough new members to have a positive member growth for the year; don’t you? Every District benefited from the Challenge. But Clubs benefited the most because of the extra hands, ideas and leadership gained to serve their communities. I, as well as you, have been struggling with My Lion. I personally have had access to the website so logging on hasn’t been a problem recently. However, I have been using My LCI to monitor Service Activities and Membership of each of our Clubs. Since My Lion rolled out, some Clubs have been using My Lion to report their activities, but I could not view them. I mentioned this problem to Past International Director (PID) Linda Tincher, and she said she has issues also, but to be patient the IT people are working on them. She was right. That evening I accessed the website and now can see the activities reported by our clubs in My Lion. The IT people have a long way to go, but please be patient. If you can’t log on please contact Lion CC, CS Keith Thomas or Lion PCC Jeff Schafer or DG Ron Edwards. Also, don’t forget to tell LCI your issues. Reports are important. Lions operate as business entities and as such must keep records and for administrative purposes, provide reports. Our reports are read and utilized to form third party agreements with vision, diabetes, environmental and other associations to participate in projects. They are also used to obtain donations from other entities. Knowing the issues with My Lion, I recommend submitting activity reports in both My LCI and My Lion to ensure your reports are received. Please submit your Officer Report (Old PU-101) if you haven’t already remembering they are needed for the new District Directory. Also please verify phone numbers, month, day and year of birth of all members as well as addresses. Serving 22 Counties!

STILL TIME

April is passed as well as the Membership Challenge and State Convention. District 25-E has a lot to be proud about. We did not win the Membership Challenge, but we placed 2nd. WOW! First place was District A with +47 new members, second was District E with +36 new members and third was District B with +31 new members. Congratulations to all.

If you don’t have internet access or otherwise are unable to submit your report, contact Lion CC, CS Club Administrator Keith Thomas and he will submit them for you.

Remember to donate to LCIF. It is our foundation from which we have benefited greatly across the district. Individual contributions are welcome as well as club donations. If you have questions, please contact Lion Sam Hopper 812-951-2185. Our goal is that every club or someone in every club make a donation this year.

Membership is still an issue to provide those helping hands needed to serve our communities. Continue to ask concerned citizens of your community to join in the fun of serving others. It is both fun and rewarding. We will attempt to start a new club yet this year, so if someone taps you on the shoulder for help, please consider pitching in or even volunteer. This is doable with enough Lions to help. Fort Branch is the community in mind with Newberg on our radar.

Thank you for all you do for your communities.

“Secretary’s Challenge”In April, we had 66% Monthly Membership Reports (MMRs) and a 48% on the Service Activity Reports (SARs) submitted.  This is EXCELLENT and the MMRs reporting remained the same along with the SARs for April! Overall, there was 1,005 Lions helping to donate over 3,300 hours during April 2019. Please keep up the GOOD work in this area.

Need Help: Call or email CC Keith Thomas, 812-354-4637, [email protected] anytime!

Let’s keep up the GREAT effort and work!

1st Vice DG CornerGREAT JOB in April for getting new members. We didn’t win the State Challenge, but we came in 2nd out of the 7th Districts. Keep up the great work. Let’s bring in those extra hands to help us in our communities.

May is usually my favorite month of the year. All the new life popping out around us. Makes me want to plant trees and flowers. Clean up the old stuff to get ready for the new. You see so many people out in their yards, parks, and on the trails.

I am not doing that this month. My District Govern year starts July 1st. Before I get there, the directory must have Lions who will help our District. I have so many spots that still need Lions to fill. I must have this in to the State Lions Office before May 20th. I still need a 2nd Vice District Governor. You will have two years before you are Governor. There is lots of training. You are not doing this alone and you have a District Team plus all the Clubs in the District. District Newsletter editor is needed. (PCC Jeff will work with you.) Not to brag, but we have the best newsletter in the state. We have lost our LEO Chairperson, Nominations and Elections Chairperson, Peace Poster Chairperson, Audit Chairperson, Environmental Chairperson and more. Please note that these positions are for the chairperson and you can pick Lions to help you with this committees. You don’t have to do it yourself. District 25-E and all our clubs are here for the same reason. To Serve. Let’s fill these committees and continue serving our committees. Please call or email me to see what you would like to help with. Remember, Lions Can Do It!

Newsletter, Public Relations & Hoosier LionSome of you have asked the question of whom to send information (photos including captions, event flyers & articles) to when it comes to the newsletter, public relations and the Hoosier Lion. Below are the points of contact and deadline (if there is one) for each:

25E Newsletter: PCC Jeff Schafer, [email protected]. Deadline by the 25th of each month.Public Relations: CC Keith Thomas, [email protected]. No deadline.Hoosier Lion: Lion Jaline Spurgeon, [email protected]. 5th of each month.

2nd Vice DG CornerWell, another State Convention is in the books. I enjoyed meeting new people and renewing friendships.  Fort Wayne was a very inviting host to the convention.  Next year, the State Convention will be in Bloomington.  District 25C is the host, but it is in our District geographically.  I hope we can all make a big push to attend and make it a very successful Convention.

For DG Ron, this Lions year is all over, but the shouting.  We can do a couple things to make sure his year ends on a high note.  First, report your officers and continue to report membership and activities.  Work at getting on MyLion and MyLCI to do the reporting.  Last but not least, ask someone to join us. We did a great job in April getting new members.  Hit it hard again in the last two months.

DGE Sheryl needs your support to start her year off right.  Put ads supporting her and helping to pay for the District Directory.  Send you ads to CC Keith Thomas and your money to CT Richard Kaiser.  Next, we need to start some new clubs and work at getting new blood into the clubs.

I hope to meet more of you this year through club visits and our meetings.  Let's have a great year.

Pursuing New Horizons with International President, Gudrun Yngvadottir

We set ambitious goals because we know that our success saves lives. Your dedication to strengthening the clubs in your district is what allows Lions to deliver life-changing service where it’s needed most. That’s why achieving your membership goals is so important to the work we are doing around the world.

You know what it will take to accomplish the goals that you’ve set. Focus on getting your clubs excited about inviting new members and work with your district team to support membership and retention efforts. Continue to make chartering new clubs a priority. There is still time to accomplish our goals. There is still time to earn the recognition you deserve for your hard work.

In friendship, Gudrun Yngvadottir Your International President

District 25-E Newsletter Editor Needed starting July 2019District 25-E is seeking an editor for our newsletter(s) (including the announcement newsletter). Our newsletter has rapidly become a must-read and one of the top newsletters in the State for Lions. As the editor, you’ll be responsible for incorporating articles from the District Governor (DG), Vice District Governors (VDGs), and various DG Team members (Region, Zone Chairs, Global Service Team, Membership Team and Leadership Team) along with potential articles from Project (State and District) Chairs. In addition, you’ll update a list of events throughout the District (official visits, fund raisers, etc.), along with incorporating flyers for various events from the state and district (Spring Convention, State Convention, Mid-Winter Conference, etc.). You’ll also incorporate pictures and captions from pictures around the District.

Candidates should be familiar with a word processor, currently MS Office Word is being used but other newsletter processors are okay. In addition, the processor should be able to convert the file to a PDF file for emailing and posting on our website. If interested contact DG Ron Edwards or PCC Jeff Schafer.

Lions all across the world have a story to tell. We want to bring you closer to the action.

Whether it is a Lion in the United States who has experienced the joy of helping a child see clearly, a Lion in New Zealand who has seen pure relief on the face of someone whose home was destroyed in a natural disaster, or a Lion in India who has witnessed the positive change that clean water can bring to a community, Lions have incredible stories of hope, bravery, joy, and resilience. To tell these stories is to show the world the good that comes from Lions and LCIF. It will bring Lions and non-Lions, alike, toward a common goal. It will inspire action through service and donations.

This newsletter is full of stories. Stories of humans helping humans. Stories that show just what kind of hearts Lions have — hearts of gold. LCIF is also introducing an exciting new way to tell these stories, through eBooks. These colorful, exciting digital storybooks will warm your heart and spark ideas for new projects. You can find a link to the first eBook within this newsletter. In addition, the 2017-2018 Annual Report is ready for viewing, bursting with stories of Lions making a difference in every cause area, reaching across the world.

Are you ready to feel empowered? Please, enjoy this month’s newsletter and be sure to share with your friends any stories that particularly resonate with you. Spreading the message that kindness matters is what will generate more and more people to contribute toward the greater good.

In any Lion’s service journey, the phase of sharing and celebrating is important. It gives your work some deserved spotlight, and inspires others to follow your lead. Download the MyLion app or log in to your account on our website to share your story and see what your fellow Lions are doing.

Sincerely,

Dr. Naresh AggarwalChairman, Lions Club International Foundation

HOW DOES OUR GARDEN GROWCONGRADULATIONS to the Lions and GMTs of MD 25

All the Districts did a great job with membership, reducing the MD net loss by 58.

If we can do it April, we can do it in May and June!

It is planting time and each member is a seed in our garden of service to others and our communities. To grow our seeds we need a field of rich soil fertilized and turned by hard work. Our club is our field. Is it ready for planting? Successful organizations review their operations to assure employees feel valued. We, as Lions, should do this also. Completing the “How are My Rating” is an excellent way to determine if club members feel valued and proud to Lions. Successful organization conduct surveys to see if they are meeting the needs of those they serve. Lions Clubs need to do this by completing a Community Needs Assessment to see if they are meeting the needs of our communities. If our field is properly prepared our garden will reach its full potential.

Seeds are, of course, the foundation of our garden. Many of our current Lions have provided seeds to help our garden grow. The simplest way to get new seeds is to Just Ask. One of the most cited reasons people did not become Lions sooner is that “no one asked me” New seeds will help our garden grow strong and healthy.

Tender loving care is needed to be sure that each of our “seedlings” grows to its full potential. One of the most cited reasons why Lions leave is a lack of involvement and not feeling welcomed as a member of the club. A little understanding, a little “propping-up”, and a lot of kindness will make for a garden in full bloom.

We must all be kind and strong and brave Lions to make our clubs operate effectively to, meet the needs of our community, to ask others to join us, and to care for each other.

When we look to the sky and see twinkling stars remembers those are the lives we as Lion made better. Reach up and grab one, put into your heart. It will become a cherished possession. Then do the hardest thing of all – share it with some else by asking a person to become a Lion.

If we care for our garden, we will have more twinkling stars than ever before.

GMT Dick

2019-2020 District 25-E Directory AdsWe just had a great District Convention, but it is time to look at some future items for the District. We are in the process of creating the 2019-2020 District Directory.  To offset the costs of printing the directory, I am asking clubs, State Projects Chairs/Trustees, and any business owners, if they want to place an ad in the new Directory for the upcoming year.  Some of you have placed an ad to advertise your club's annual events/fundraisers, announcements, or congratulations to your members' Melvin Jones or W. P. Woods Fellows. They have also been used to congratulate the incoming DGE (Sheryl Schafer) or thank the outgoing DG (Ron Edwards). For whatever reason, we need help to offset the costs. You are under no obligation to advertise, but we could use the help. To advertise, please send the information/payment as directed below.  We would like to wrap up the advertising setup by April 30th.  This allows enough time for printing and distribution at the DG's Banner Night.  Ad Sizes:     Full Page (4"W x 8"H) $100.00    Half Page (4"W x 4"H) $ 50.00    1/4 Page  (2"W x 4"H) $ 30.00    1/4 Page (4"W x 2"H) $ 30.00 Send the Ad copy in electronic file format to: Cabinet Secretary CC Keith Thomas400 12th StreetPetersburg, IN 47567Cell [email protected] Send payment to: Cabinet Treasurer Lion Richard Kaiser1510 Red Leaf DriveEvansville, IN 47712Cell [email protected] Thank you in advance for placing an ad to support the District. Kenny Williams2VDGDistrict 25E812-876-3132

Lions International Convention 2019 Milan, Italy July 5th – 9th

BUONGIORNO!

The Lions 102nd International Convention is a short couple of months away and there is still time to make plans for what will be a very special

convention. Registrations can be done online or if you happen to find yourself in Milan during this time and haven’t registered you can do it onsite. Hotels can be reserved via Lions Club International or direct. Airlines specials are beginning to be offered but there is a short window before they will return back to regular price or higher as it gets closer to July.

Final plans are being made for an Indiana Lions dinner arranged by Committee member PDG Patty Cooke. This too will be an enjoyable time and a culinary treat from one of Milan’s local restaurants. Reservation forms will be sent out in the next few weeks.

If touring Italy is high on the list of things to do there are still tours available thru the LCI selected travel companies. There are also a variety of options from other companies operating in Milan. These can be found online or thru a travel agency.

If you will be in Milan please watch for correspondence from the Indiana International Convention Committee as they are making plans on the best way to communicate to our members of news/events each day of the convention.

As always if there are any questions about the International Convention, don’t hesitate to contact any of our committee members. They have been brushing up on their Italian but I am pretty sure they will provide all answers in English!

Lions Club International Convention Updates – Milan, Italy July 5th thru 9th, 2019

Lions Clubs International is pleased to announce that Mr. Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and founder of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, will be the Keynote speaker at LCICon 2019 in Milan.

Serving as Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007, Mr. Blair redefined modern, progressive politics and implemented major domestic reforms. Through record investment and reform, the education and healthcare sectors were transformed. Mr. Blair’s New Labour Government implemented the largest hospital and school building program since the creation of the UK’s welfare state. The first ever national minimum wage was introduced, and there was also transformational progress on human rights and equality. All this while overseeing a period of record economic growth and levels of employment.

A central figure on the global stage, Mr. Blair also helped bring peace to Northern Ireland, created the UK’s Department for International Development, tripled foreign aid to Africa and introduced landmark legislation to tackle climate change.

Mr. Blair is at the forefront of today’s most challenging debates, such as how technology will impact the workforce, and tackling issues of inequality in societies across the globe. His unparalleled international experience, both as Prime Minister and since leaving office, gives him a unique perspective on global events and the political insight to offer solutions to the critical challenges of our time.

In 2017, all Mr. Blair’s various areas of work formally came together as one not for profit organization;

the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, which builds on the legacy of Mr. Blair’s activities since leaving public office. Its Mission is to help make globalization work for the many, not the few. They do this by helping countries, their people and their governments address some of the most difficult challenges in the world today.

BEDFORD LIONS CLUB RECOGNIZE 20 OUTSTANDING AREA YOUTHS FOR SERVICE

About 200 people attended the Bedford Lion’s Club annual Youth Appreciation Program. The honored youths ranging in age from middle school to high school were introduced by a representative from the organization, from which they had been nominated, and cited for each of their individual accomplishments such as having high moral character, unselfishness, being aware of the feelings and needs of others, being the first to volunteer, being a good leader, serving as role models for other youth, and being a good solid citizen of whom our community can be proud of now and in the future. The nominating organizations were schools, church youth groups, 4H clubs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Boys & Girls Club. Their families were also introduced and applauded for their efforts in raising these outstanding kids.

For the past 24 years the Bedford Lions Club has conducted this outstanding community project honoring 624 local youths, praising the kids for their many accomplishments, thanking the families for supporting such great children, and challenging the kids to set high goals, always do their best, and continue to help others throughout their entire lives. The Youth Appreciation Project is a great way for the Lions to highlight the fine work done by the youth of our community and is greatly needed since these dedicated kids rarely get any publicity for the outstanding deeds they do in our community. Each youth was presented a very nice certificate stating they are “An Outstanding Youth Who Has Unselfishly Given Time and Talent for the Betterment of Our Community” along with complimentary Pancake Festival tickets by Lion Jan Allen, president of the Bedford Lions Club. Photos were taken during each presentation and a group photo was taken at the end. The program was concluded with a big group ”Thank You” lead by the Lions program chair Laura Williams followed by everyone in attendance enjoying some of the many tasty desserts served by the Lions. The Lions Club motto is “We Serve.”

BEDFORD LIONS CLUB FITNESS CHALLENGE 5K RACEThe Bedford Lions Club recently held its 7th annual Fitness Challenge 5K Race/Walk. Early registrations for the 2019 race totaled 228 entrees but due to the cold, rain, and wind the day of the race 132 dedicated runners and walkers of all ages and expertise participated in this year's race. These entrees along with the 12 sponsors helped the Lions raise much needed funds to help support our main beneficiary the Lawrence Inter Faith Endeavors (LIFE) Backpack Blessings weekend food program for school kids along with other Lions Club community programs.
