From the Deputy Commander . . .Capt Jessa Erickson

As you all know, May was a busy

month and the rest of the sum-

mer is shaping up to be just as

busy if not even busier!

The month of June brings us a

SAREX, a fly in and airshow in

Clarinda, 2 encampments in Ne-

braska and Colorado and the

Youth Aviation Day Camp. While

we understand that not everyone

can attend everything, we do

encourage you all to attend what

you can and have a good time

while you’re at it.

Just a few things I want to point

out before I let you all delve into

this month’s newsletter:

All mandatory require-

ments (EO, OPSEC and

Intro to CAP Safety) MUST

be completed ASAP! If you

are delinquent you will be

asked to complete these

items at the beginning of the

meeting.

Senior Members—We have

posted a preliminary “help

wanted” list over on page 5.

If you’re interested in picking

up a first or additional duty

position let me know!

Senior Members—

Professional Development

training opportunities are

everywhere! Typically these

classes are only offered

once a year, but as we’re so

close to 3 other wings, and

with special provisions, we’re

getting additional opportuni-

ties!. Don’t miss out!

Cadets—For those that will

be at the June 26th meeting,

and even for those who will

be off at encampment that

week, check out the page

6—June Meetings article to

find out what homework you

have due that night! ALL

cadets will be participating in

this, if you have question

me know.

As always, more events are b

ing added to the calendar. If

have an idea for an activity w

should be doing be sure to le

know! We’re always up for n

ideas.

Last, but CERTAINLY not lea

want to take a minute to than

you all for your continued ent

siasm and dedication to our C

family. It’s always a pleasure

dissect our meetings on our d

home each Tuesday and thin

about how great everyone is a

Due to the large number of senior members in our

squadron, we have been given permission to hold a

Squadron Leadership Course in Red Oak. We’ve

chosen to hold this class on October 20 & 21, 2012

to coincide with the 3rd Saturday meeting .

The location has not yet been set, but we are work-

ing on this as well as securing instructors for the

course.

The Squadron Leadership Course is a great intro-

ductory course into the senior member role within the

squadron. While it is a required component for com-

pletion of Level II, it’s very informative and helpful for

those who wish to play an active role in their sq

ron (whether or not you hold a duty position).

Course fees will be nominal and only enough to

er materials and lunch for Saturday so please

advantage of this great opportunity to complet

course without having to make the trek elsewhe

Please mark this weekend on calendar and pl

attend!

rently the regs require at least 2 membersm each squadron complete this course.

le we do meet that requirement, we are ask-

elf discipline, time management,

nd determination. These three

ualities are important for helping

ou to promote or even help you

o your daily tasks easily.

takes self discipline to take time

ut of your day to study for your

g test. A good example is when

ome of your friends want you to

o play outside, and you say I

etter stay inside to study for my

g test.

Time management is when you

use your time wisely. Its better to

get your things done rather than

waiting at the last minute. A good

example of time management is

when you plan ahead of what you

are going to do. Lets say you willstudy for one or two hours then

you will award your self by play-

ing outside or by playing video

games for a little bit. This is

called uptime and downtime. Also

when you are taking your test

make sure you keep your eye on

the clock so you don’t run out of

time.

Determination is when you put all

your effort into one thing. It also

can mean you stay on task. Make

sure when your study you have a

good calm and quiet environment

to help you stay on task.

READ THE BOLD PRINTS! The

bold prints are usually in the test!

Try to get your things done be-

fore your time and grade is up so

if you need time to retake a test

or to study for a another test.

Obtaining Achievement #1—a How-to Guide

Cadets, are you a little unsure of

ust how to get that first promo-

on? If so, no worries, here’s a

tep-by-step guide.

Your first objective will be to reg-

ster for e-services and log in forhe first time. To do that, click

ere.  Once you’ve logged in,

omplete the Operational Securi-

y Awareness (OPSEC) training

as well as the Equal Opportunity

(EO) Training and Intro to CAP

Safety 10-question quiz.

Now that the basics are done you

can move on to tackling your last

three requirements: completeyour cadet physical fitness testing

(CPFT) requirements during a

2nd Tuesday meeting, the Chap-

ter 1 Learn to Lead test found

online in e-services, and the

Chapter 1 Drill & Ceremonies test

during any meeting.

That’s it!

If you run into any troubles alongthe way or need a helping hand

don’t forget to call on your men-

tor. After all, that’s what they’re

there for!
