Well, we have made it to September! The first two weeks of school were a huge success! We were able to meet so many new families in August between all of the various events! We look forward to seeing you more often as the year progresses! Did you know that Etna has a homeroom time? During that homeroom time, each classroom does somewhat the same thing. Two days a week, we focus on character education lessons around the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. On another two days, teachers hold morning meetings. This is a time for the students to get to know each other better, as well as the teacher. Time is spend forming the classroom family. Finally, on Fridays, we have STEM CHALLENGE FRIDAYS! These are spread over three weeks. On the first Friday, students are presented with a STEM challenge and they must plan how they will complete the challenge. On the second Friday, they complete the challenge and then on the third Friday they reflect. Then we start the cycle all of again! Last week was our first STEM Challenge – it was awesome! The kids had a fabulous time and questioned all day which classes won! For fourth grade, Miss Myers class was able to build the largest tower with spaghetti noodles, tape and a marshmallow on top. For fifth grade, Mr. LeJeune’s class was the winner! Both classes were able to spin the wheel for some bonus points! Proud Principal, Mrs. Moore

Etna Elementary has a proud tradition of honoring military Veterans during our Veteran’s Day assembly. We will continue that tradition with a program to be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017. More details about the assembly will come out later this fall. As part of our program this year, Etna Elementary is hoping to sponsor veterans to take an Honor Flight. This opportunity is coordinated by Honor Flight Columbus. The cost to sponsor a veteran is $500 (http://honorflightcolumbus.com/sponsor-a-vet.html). In an effort to raise money for this program, we will have a few $1 hat days. Students will be allowed to wear hats at school for a $1 donations to this worthy cause. All money raised from Hat Days will go toward the Veteran’s day program and Honor Flight. Hat Days: September 8, September 22, October 6, October 18

Guidance Counselor, [email protected]
Welcome back to what is sure to be a great year at Etna Elementary! Our goal is to provide a safe and challenging learning environment in which our students can develop and expand their academic, personal, and social skills. We have chosen September as our Intentional Acts of Kindness month. During the morning homeroom time students will engage in lessons that demonstrate to them the importance of being intentional with their kindness; students also learn the importance of developing behavior habits that will make intentional acts of kindness an important aspect of their daily routines. We believe that these lessons will help to promote an atmosphere of kindness which will enhance our learning environment for students. Please take some time at home to talk with your students about how they have chosen to show intentional acts of kindness during their day.
Notes from Mr. Bulmer

LEADER OF THE
MONTH
This month, Etna Elementary students have been working hard on showing INTENTIONAL ACTS OF KINDNESS. Teachers and staff members have been on the lookout for students who have been showing this characteristic. We will start focusing on the 7 Habits starting this month. Teachers will go over the traits during homeroom for the habit of month. At the end of the month, one student from each homeroom will attend our Leader of Month celebration and will earn their Brag Tag!
