Please give ur 5 mins to this its really important...

Recently lots of people asked me what I thought about soy milk and other soy products. The answer actually requires a lengthy explanation. The bottom line is that we eat soy products in a way in which soy was not intended to be consumed.

How Did Soy Foods Become So Popular?------------------------------------------------From 1992 to 2006, soy food sales increased from $300 million to nearly $4 billion, practically overnight, according to the Soyfoods Association of North America. This growth came about due to a massive shift in attitudes about soy. And this shift was no accidentit was the result of a massive investment in advertising by the soy industry that's been wildly successful.

Soy is indeed big business, very big business.

From 2000 to 2007, U.S. food manufacturers introduced more than 2,700 new soy-based foods, and new soy products continue to appear on your grocer's shelves.

    >>Reality Behind Soy Food--------------------------------Over the past several decades, many infants have received soy-based formulas. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the use of soy-based formula has nearly doubled during the past decade to achieve 25 percent of the market in the

United States. Many mothers say that they have fed soy to their babies on the basis of their pediatricians recommendation.Soy Protein-based Formulas: Recommendations for Use in Infant Feeding - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11345979

The main concern regarding use of soybased infant formula is the amount of phytoestrogens. Infants who consume soy formula have isoflavone plasma concentrationsapproximately 13,000 to 22,000 times greater than those infants fed breast milkor cows milk formula. Dr. Kaayla Daniel, PhD, describes calculations indicatingthat these babies are consuming the estrogenic equivalent of three to five birthcontrol pills per day.Concerns for the use of soy-based formulas in infant nutrition - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2661347/

Let me say this, the fact that so many of us are fooledis evidence that soy is big business.very BIG business. Soy seems to be in everything these days; From soylecithin to soybean oil, it seems to sneak its way into almost everything: ice cream, chocolate chips, crackers, peanut butter, etc.

There is lots of info about the dangers of soy out there, so I will just summarize my findings for all my lovely readers.

    Soy is worst because:

    >>Heavy dose of herbicides, pesticides n Insecticide chemicals spray done on soybean crops.

soybean crops in the US are sprayed with Monsantos Roundup, a pesticide. This pesticide is nasty. It disrupts our systems; especially our gut health. Worse thanthis, the genetics of the plant are altered, so no amount of washing is going toget that pesticide off your food. Animal studies have shown devastating effectsfrom genetically engineered soy including allergies, sterility, birth defects, and offspring death rates up to five times higher than normal. In India, soybeanis attacked by about two dozens of insect pests which is controlled by the maximum chemical spray and after cotton the maximum chemical spray is done on the soybean crop. Do you think this heavy dose of chemical sprayed food is good for urhealth????

    >>Infants Soy Based Products------------------------------------Medwatch Adverse Health reporting system exposes numerous severe and potentiallyfatal diseases reported by parents who had fed their infants soy formula and are now confronted with the resulting severe and irreversible adverse health problems. My neighbor Carols daughter is autistic, Vickis adult daughter is infertile, Kathsadult son is infertile, Stephanies infant son has type 1 diabetes, Jeans teenage son has extreme allergies, Janets son has immune disorders, Pams son has severe asthma. All of these children have one thing in common: they were all fed soy-basedformula as infants. Two of the moms had also consumed soy-based diets during pregnancy.

    >>SOY AND CANCER--------------------------In 2004, the US Department of Environmental Molecular Medicine reported soy causation of oxidative DNA damage, which can lead to tumor initiation and cell proliferation. Soy is reported as capable of causing leukemia, testicular, breast, uterine, bladder, stomach, colon, intestinal, pancreatic and kidney cancers as well as lymphomas.

    >>Dont eat soy when you are pregnant

------------------------------------------------Scientific research has shown that the developing male fetus which is exposed tosoy phytoestrogens may suffer from higher susceptibility to prostate cancer later in life (Prostate 1994;24(2):67-78).

    >>Keep that soy away from your daughters---------------------------------------------------Dietary genistein (soy phytoestrogen) in developing female rats had the effect of significantly accelerated puberty (Toxicol Sci 1999 Oct;51(2):236-44).

    >>Soya could make men infertile---------------------------------------Research conducted by Harvard School of Public Health, Boston suggest that highe

r intake of soy foods and soy isoflavones is associated with lower sperm concentration.Men who eat soya-based foods may be harming their fertility, doctors said, aftera study found a link between soya-rich diets and lower sperm countshttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-176863/Soya-make-men-infertile.htmlhttp://www.theguardian.com/science/2008/jul/24/foodtech.medicalresearchhttp://science.naturalnews.com/pubmed/18650557.html

    >>Eating Soy Can Decrease Your Fertility------------------------------------------------According to a study involving humans, a compound found in soy known as genistein has been found to impair sperm as they swim toward the egg. Even tiny doses ofthe compound in the female tract could destroy sperm.

Genistein can be found in all soy-containing products, including:Soy milkMany vegetarian foodsSome pre-packed meals and pizzashttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4115506.stm

Soy phytoestrogens are potent antithyroid agents that cause hypothyroidism and may cause thyroid cancer. In infants, consumption of soy formula has been linkedto autoimmune thyroid disease.

    >>Vitamin B12 analogs in soy are not absorbed and actually increase the body's requirement for B12.

    >>Soy foods increase the body's requirement for vitamin D.

    >>Soy foods contain high levels of aluminum which is toxic to the nervous systemand the kidneys.

Myth: Modern soy foods protect against many types of cancer.

Truth: A British government report concluded that there is little evidence thatsoy foods protect against breast cancer or any other forms of cancer. In fact, soy foods may result in an increased risk of cancer.

Myth: Soy foods protect against heart disease.

Truth: In some people, consumption of soy foods will lower cholesterol, but there is no evidence that lowering cholesterol with soy protein improves one's riskof having heart disease.

Myth: Soy estrogens (isoflavones) are good for you.

Truth: Soy isoflavones are phyto-endocrine disrupters. At dietarylevels, they can prevent ovulation and stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Eating as little as 30 grams (about 4 tablespoons) of soy per day can result in hypothyroidism with symptoms of lethargy, constipation, weight gain and fatigue.

Myth: Soy foods are safe and beneficial for women to use in their postmenopausalyears.

Truth: Soy foods can stimulate the growth of estrogen-dependent tumors and causethyroid problems. Low thyroid function is associated with difficulties in menop

    ause.

Myth: Phytoestrogens in soy foods can enhance mental ability.

Truth: A recent study found that women with the highest levels of estrogen in their blood had the lowest levels of cognitive function; In Japanese Americans tofu consumption in mid-life is associated with the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease in later life.

Myth: Soy isoflavones and soy protein isolate have GRAS (Generally Recognized asSafe) status.

Truth: Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) recently withdrew its application to the FDA

for GRAS status for soy isoflavones following an outpouring of protest from thescientific community. The FDA never approved GRAS status for soy protein isolate because of concern regarding the presence of toxins and carcinogens in processed soy.

Myth: Soy foods are good for your sex life.

Truth: Numerous animal studies show that soy foods cause infertility in animals.Soy consumption enhances hair growth in middle-aged men, indicating lowered testosterone levels. Japanese housewives feed tofu to their husbands frequently when they want to reduce his virility.

Myth: Soy beans are good for the environment.

Truth: Most soy beans grown in the US are genetically engineered to allow farmers to use large amounts of herbicides.

Myth: Soy beans are good for developing nations.

Truth: In third world countries, soybeans replace traditional crops and transferthe value-added of processing from the local population to multinational corporations.----------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to be clear that I am not opposed to all soy. Soy can be incredibly healthful, but ONLY if it is organic and properly fermented. After a long fermentation process, the phytate and "anti-nutrient" levels of soybeans are reduced, and their beneficial properties become available to your digestive system. You may have heard that Japanese people live longer and have lower rates of cancer than Americans because they eat so much soybut it's primarily fermented soy that they consume, and it's always been that way.
