Topic / Title: EDTL5230 Field Day 3
Reflection:-
Event:
The event was field day number three, which took place at Asja Boys College,
Charlieville and hosted by Salma Varachhia Hosein. The active participants were the teachers
who chose to teach Ian Seepersad, Yavani Rooplal and Vicky Ramnath, in addition, the students
of Asja Boys College Charlieville. The silent participants were the Diploma in Education IT
Teachers and Lecturer for the teaching session, but discussions were held afterwards.
Feelings:
We were generally on time and the preparations for the sessions seemed to be working
out well but there were some hiccups. There were a few issues, but what stood out was that a
Form 3 class was used for the three sessions and very little group work was incorporated except
to end of Vicky’s session. Teachers in the group also found that students were a bit overwhelmed
by three sessions. My overall feeling was that this field day could have been a bit improved, in
terms of organizing two more classes, more interaction and group work with students, font size
on presentations to be larger and use of higher order thinking skills in assessment.

Evaluation:
I was expecting to learn how to do a proper assessment, ensuring that the most
appropriate assessment is used to assess the objectives of the lesson. My prior knowledge was
what I gained from experience in the classroom, curriculum sessions and plenaries. I actually
learnt about how easily we can fall in our teaching methods and strategies. It was reinforced that
boys learn differently to girls and we must do everything in our power to also focus on
improving our boys. Objectives and assessment strategies should be aligned, in addition to
ensuring that assessment strategies and questions on worksheets and multiple choice questions
are also linked to cognitive objectives. The significance about this learning was that we have to
to always improve ourselves as we move forward.
Analysis:
This learning can change my practice by allowing me to see as a teacher that, we can
digress very easily and need a second pair of eyes to point out our shortcomings. The day
progressed somewhat quickly and everyone was involved in general discussion.
Conclusion:
I have learnt that it is always good to have a second person who can give constructive
criticism, and also we must be mindful of audience which we are engaging and different
intelligences.
