I wanted to let you know some spa ideas I do, and I wanted to share some summertime things I have enjoyed at spas, too.

How to make a spa trip as easy as a trip to the nearest provincial park:

Walks at dusk with flashlights and leather pouches of cool wine. Massage oil with your spouse in a tent under the stars. Don’t take sleeping bags - take your flan-nel sheets, your feather down duvet and cuddle in on those cool summer nights. A bottle of wine in stainless goblets, chilled all evening in a rustic bucket of ice and water. Baskets of weathered boxes filled with Scrabble boards, clue games, and Monopoly.

Surround your campsite with wicker torches and draped sarongs to provide the feeling of a private spot nestled in the woods. Wake to birds singing and giant mugs of rich coffee bubbled over a campfire.

Leave the excess of the world behind. Take life to the simplest level. Tantalize your six senses. Give your attention over to each other, leaving the pressures of excess behind.

Didyouknowthereareover500kinds,offofCanada’scoast?Diane’scompany,SeaFlora,harvestsandmakesseaweedintobenefitingcreamsandlotions.Itwasfascinating.Whowouldthinkthatyuckygreenstuffthatwashesontothebeach,couldbesofullofnutrientsandminerals?Evenedible,andsogoodforyou!AsIwalkedcarefullyalongwithmywalkingstick,tryingnottostumbleontheoceanbottom,Ipickedupasuperhugepieceofseaweed,toputinmybath.

Iwasreallyenjoyingtheoutdoorconnectiontonature-thebreeze,theair,thewateranditsofferings.Ithinkthisonitsowncouldbeaspatreat-ment-Ithinkmymotherwouldcallthis,‘clearingyourhead’!Notsureifthatwouldbeabigselleronaspamenu,butitcertainlywasworkingforme!


Whenyouthinkyouhavelifefiguredout,that’swhenitcanthrowyouacurve!Itdidjust

thatforMylisaHendersonwhensheandherfamilyrelocatedfromBostontoOntario’sBlueMountains,intheCollingwoodarea,in2000.Herrelocationincludedherbecom-ingastay-at-homemomafterworkingforoneofthelargestNorthAmericanwinemanufacturers.

So,literallyathome,shethoughtwhatcouldtheydo?MylisahadbeenintroducedtotheScandinavianspaexperienceasher

sistermarriedafounderofScandinaveSpaandMylisathoughttheuniquespaconceptwouldworkatBlueMountain.

Shewassmitten–somuchso,thatshecontactedherfriendsfromherwinerylife,RobertandLesleyCederbergfromCal-gary,andtheyallwenttoQuebec’sMontTremblentforavisitinFebruary2004.Astheysatinthehotbathstheypicturedtheirdreamatthispoint,andrealized,“WecanbringthisconcepttoBlueMountain!”TheycouldcapturetheScandinavianexperienceandlocateitrightbesidetheIntrawestBlueMountainSkiVillage.

Therestwasfate:theCederberg’smovedfromCalgary.Ittookanadditionalyearandtheyfoundandboughttheperfect50acrestobuildtheirdreamspa.InJanuary2006theprojectreallybeganastheplansweredrawn,andinJunetheystartedtobuild.Sixmonthsandsevenmilliondollarslater,thespaopened,inDecember2006!Mylisalaughsasshesays,“Istainedalotofthiswoodhere”!Notonlydidfriendsandfamilyinvest,butalsothepartnersworkedhands-on,building,staininganddoinganythingthatneededdoinguntilthedoorsopened.
