He then received a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in Chicago in 1979. He completed his Pediatric Dentistry Residency in Fort Meade, Maryland, where he obtained his Pediatric Dentistry Certificate in 1992. He joined the Village Family Dental team in 2011. Dr. Ravel has held the following professional positions: Pediatric Dentistry Mentor for the Comprehensive Dentistry Residency Program in Fort Hood, Texas and a Pediatric Dentistry Mentor for the Comprehensive Dentistry Residency Program at Fort Bragg, NC. He was also a Dental Officer in the United States Army where he achieved the Order of Military Medical Merit. Dr. Ravel is a Diplomate for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a member of the Fayetteville North Carolina Dental Society and a member of the North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Ravel has made numerous presentations to medical and dental teaching programs, clinics and organizations in various countries around the world. He currently holds staff privileges at area hospitals including Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Highsmith-Rainey Hospital, Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Central Carolina Hospital and the Fayetteville Ambulatory Center. This presentation discusses malocclusion and dental space loss in children, the factors that contribute to these problems and the use of space maintainers for the prevention of their occurrence.
