The third day, we played football against the Turkish students at the high school and in the evening, we saw the Big Bazaar in which we could buy a lot of traditional things from Tur-key. In the Big Bazaar, a pickpocket stole the wallet from a Spanish partner. Fortunately, he had more money. For dinner, we went to one of the best restaurants in Instambul. We felt very comfortable because we ate all we wanted in very good company. Tha last day in Instambul, we were very sad because we had go to Bursa and say good bye to our Turkish friends. When we had taken all the photos and asked for the messen-gers, we visited the Big Bazaar once more and walked through the city. Raul, our Spanish partner, made a promise to our teacher about his hair, and we went to a hairdressing and he had his hair cut. Then, we took a ferry to go to Bursa, where we met the Italian, Polish, Holland and Greek people.

It was the first journey in the Comenius Proyect. We went by bus to the airport in Madrid, which was about one hour by car from our city, Toledo. The journey by plane took 2 hours to Instambul, although it took us 4 hours since we arrived at the airport until they gave us our luggage. When we arrived, the Turkish people were waiting for us. Then we caught a bus and it took us to our house with the corresponding partner. The following day, we met again at the school called VKV Koç Özel Lisesi really early, at 7 o’ clock. The school was amazing and we made friends very quikcly. In the afternoon we went to Santa Sofia, and finally we visited the blue mosque, one of the biggest monuments in Instambul.

It took us an hour, then we caught taxis and we went to our new house and we met the families in Bursa. The next day in Bursa we went to the highschool and we presented our proyect. Later, while we were eating, we met all the members of the Comenius Project. We went to a factory of a kind of very famous sweet in the world called Kafkas. The last day in Turkey, we stayed in a Spanish hotel where we enjoyed some of the best pleasures in life: a free sauna, Spanish food, and returning to our timeta-ble. And that was the end of our trip!

When did you go to Madeira and who did

you go with?

I went to Madeira in May in 2009 and I

went with people one year older than me.

When you arrived, how was the welcome?

It was very nice. At first we were worried

about the airstrip because it looked very

short but nothing happened. Then, we went

to a festival in which our partners took part.

Later, each of us went with their partners

to their houses. The family was very

friendly and I didn’t have any problem with

anything, I had everything that I needed,

although the family didn’t speak English.

What was your first impression

of the city?

The city was very beautiful with a

lot of people.

How were the people there? Are

they very different from Spanish

people?

People there were cheerful, com-

municative and sociable.

What was the strangest dish you

tried there?

A cake with chocolate and many in-

gredients which I didn’t know.

Did they teach you any typical

game from there?

They didn’t teach me any typical

game from there.

Can you describe us the best ac-

tivity you did there?

Did you go to the beach? What

are beaches there like?

Yes, I went to the beach four days,

but only in one of them there was

sand, the rest were stone beaches.

What was the school like? Did you

attend any lesson?

We only saw the high school from

the outside and I didn’t go to any

lesson with them because we visited

different places in Madeira.

What was the city like? Did it

have many monuments?

I was in a small city and there were

not any monuments there and if I

wanted to go out with friends I had

to go by car. The typical houses

there are very small and very rural. What was the thing that surprised you

the most?

What surprised me most was the land-

scape because it was very green with

many cliffs and there was a lot of water

everywhere.

Would you come back if you could?

Yes, of course! I liked the trip very much

and if I could go there again, I’m sure

that I would go. I met a lot of people

from many countries, it was a very good

experience and it was great fun!

GREEK CURIOSITIES

From the point of view of gastronomy, there were differences in cheese: Greek cheese was stronger than our cheese. They ate it in a lot of different ways and in almost every meal.

ABOUT GREECE...

They liked coffee very much and they drink a typical transparent liquor that turns grey when you move iIn Greece, people can drink alcohol and smoke when they are fourteen years old. Also, people could ask for a typical Greek game whose

name is ΤΑΒΛΙ.

A big cultural difference is religion. While in Spain most people are catholic, in Greece they are orthodox (another kind of Christians). The orthodox preachers wear a kind of toga and a cylindrical cap on their head. Churches in Greece have domed towers.

One of the typical meals that they liked most was the “sublaki”. It is meat in a stick with a lot of spices. On the tables in bars there were free snuff packages for consum-ers.

In Greece there are pubs in which they play traditional Greek music and dance. There are some differences between their dancing and music with respect to Spanish.

It was the eighth of November.

We woke up very early and we

went to Barajas’ airport and

waited our plane. One hour later

we were in Lisbon. The journey

was a little bit boring but I became

happier when the plane assistant gave us free food!

In Lisbon we visited a huge garden

with a lot of people selling nuts.

We had dinner at the “Hard Rock

Café”. This place is an amazing

and huge restaurant and it has a

lot of guitars hanging on the walls

This day we met the peo-

ple that was going to

share a part of his life with

us, it was an astonishing

experience. We stayed at

the hotel that night and

the following day at 11 o’clock we caught a bus

that picked us up to Leiria,

the village where we were

going to stay for a few

days.

I don’t remember the

name of the school, the

name was too long for my

mind…

There, the timetable was differ-

ent, they had 5 hours at school

and 30 minutes of break between

each subject. Every break we

played computer games at the

coffe shop, it was amazing, each

pupil had a laptop! The people there was very

friendly and my “mother” every

day bought sweets for me. We

went several times out of the city,

for example to the beach.

The last day we went to the

bowling, I think it was the best

day of the trip!

I have learnt a lot of

things in this journey,

for example, the im-

portante of travelling

abroad because is an

amazing experience

that will help you to speak Englisk fluently

and to make a lot of

fantastic friends who I

won’t ever forget!
