Frida Kahlo is considered to be one of the

most important / más importantes artists

of modern times. She was famous for

painting self-portraits / autorretratos

(pictures of herself) but she was

particularly famous for / famosa por

painting women / mujeres as strong people.

Frida KahloBorn in / Nacida en: July 6th 1907 in Mexico /

6 de julio de 1907 en México.Died in / Murió en: July 13th 1954 /

13 de julio de 1954.

EARLY YEARS / SUS PRIMEROS AÑOS

When Frida was a child / una niña, she loved to draw / dibujar.

She preferred to spend hours on her own, being creative /

creativa, rather than playing with her siblings / hermanos.

When Frida was six / seis, she was very ill /enferma and then had to wear a

special support to help her walk / caminar.

AN ACCIDENT /

UN ACCIDENTE

When Frida was 18 / dieciocho, she was

involved in a traffic accident / accidente

de tránsito. This left her with many

injuries including broken bones in her

spine, collarbone, ribs, pelvis, leg /

pierna,

foot / pie and

shoulder / hombro.

HER RECOVERY /

SU RECUPERACIÓN

During her time in bed / en cama, recovering

from her illness and her accident, Frida would

draw / dibujar to pass the time.

She couldn’t see very much from her bed, so she

had a mirror / un espejo placed on the ceiling so

that she could see herself.

Frida drew and painted

a lot of self-portraits /

autorretratos.

SELF-PORTRAITS / AUTORRETRATOS

She used lots of bright colours /

colores vibrantes, which

reminded her of the hot country

/país where she lived. Frida was

very proud of her Mexican

heritage.

She also included lots of tropical

flowers / flores tropicales and animals /

animales, such as monkeys /monos and

birds / pájaros.
