In 1895 the first Spanish film exhibition took place in Barcelona
The first Spanish film was released in 1897 by Rina en un cafe the brawl in the cafe
By by 1914 when WW1 started the City was the Capital of what they called
Spain's silent film industry.
The first Spanish film society was founded in Madrid in 1928
1931 saw the introduction of sound in foreign film production and it severely affected the Spanish film industry
Only one movie came out in 1931 until Spanish Industry Film Company Inc introduced sound to Spanish cinema
Silent film are was ruined by the Spanish civil war and only 10% of films
made before 1939 survived the war
During the Spanish civil war in 1930s, censorship and propaganda was introduced
1975 saw censorship loosen after the end of Franco’s dictatorship and death of El Caudillo
Spanish who had left the country started returning home and brought with them their teenage kids with other relaxed cultures.
In Madrid the changes were profound and certain parts of city erupted into self-indulgent cultures, this got wild, pornography exploded, prostitution and wide spread use of drugs was visible
La movida

Spanish cinema evolving
• Spanish cinema has been gaining ground for it’s creative and technical excellence.
• Most expensive movie ever produced in Spain was an animated film, the movie set the record in 2009 in box office sales and also won a Goya award for best Animated film
• Some Spanish famous film in original language have also managed to stand their ground internationally.
