RESEARCH/VISUAL EXPLORATION _ CONCLUSIONS
AVENUE DE LʼOBSERVATOIRE - GLYPH BASED SITE ANALYSES
The project uses a base unit of a 50 M square to analyze the site. Squares are selected to provide interesting diversity in spatial quality, and to explore the varying nature of intimate spaces across site. As spaces change, the snapshots reflect the different spatial qualities, materialities, and compositions.
SAMPLING
Snapshots are reduced to line drawings, simplifying information, and providing planar representations of each spatial sample. These samples become 2D compositions which allow for proportional analysis and streamlined identification and delineation of material.

Labelling each sampling we created a matrix for organization. This matrix provided a system to reproduce elements devoid of clutter, and created a system for mapping each sample square back to its original place.
ORGANIZATION
Using the logic of the organizational matrix, samples are placed along an axis of A to J left to right, and then 1 to 14 top to bottom. Following their placement, each square is analyzed for its differentiated components, and colored accordingly.
REGULATION GREENSPACE
The analysis of the sample squares yields four distinct categories of terrain, green space, hardscape, softscape, and buildings. These analyses and identifications create a series of glyphs which express the unique characters of intimate spaces throughout the site.
ACTIVATION HARDSCAPE
Through continued development and exploration of site diagramming, a language of glyphs is devised for representing the varying site spaces, and communicating material nature as well as terrain. These glyphs are then analysed for surface area coverage in Google Sketchup to derive precise material information.
DEPLOYMENT BUILDINGS
By analyzing both positive and negative spaces as they emerge within the glyhps, viewers can begin to read the symbols as imprints of a geography that is various and diverse, through a simplified field of 2D symbols that directly transcribe the surface of the site and offer a quantitative analysis of materials.
EXCLUSION SOFTSCAPE
The imposition and combination of all of the layers together on the same layer creates a devise for understanding the composition of the space, and the way in which materials and spaces interact with each other. ie: colors that fall next to each other often, or patterns of distribution
