Following the Dinner and Learn, SPE held its officer elections where Lawand Ismail, Kashia Cha, and Joshua Oluwayomi were elected for Vice president, Secretary, and Treasurer, respectively. The Petrobowl team was able to attended the competition in Houston, Texas along with one of our graduate students who is a part of the planning committee for the National Society of Petroleum engineers. SPE is looking forward to the remainder of the semester, with speakers from Bakker Hughes scheduled for late March and Joel Brown from Mineral Tracker in early April. SPE continues to participate in volunteering at the food pantry every Wednesday and is eager for Spring to come so we can have our annual SPE BBQ. We are looking forward to ending the year strong with our highway clean-up and excited to see who will be filling the role of president for next school year. – Kyle Pioske PE Visits Students Statewide The Petroleum Engineering program has participated in several college and career fairs throughout North Dakota in order to spark interest in the next generation of petroleum engineers. Most recently, delegates were sent to Dakota College in Bottineau for the STEM Fair aimed at students in 7th – 10th grades. Zifu Zhou and Olusegun Stanley Tomomewo presented a drilling activity to 89 students. DDW Consulting, LLC Teaching students at Dakota College On February 26, College of Engineering and Mines Dean Hesham El-Rewini announced that he was leaving the college in July to take the position of Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Marymount University. El-Rewini has been Dean of the CEM for the past 11 years. The Petroleum Engineering department wishes him the best in his new endeavor. Dean El-Rewini to Leave CEM

The Graduate Research Achievement Day (or GRAD, for short), a one-day celebration of UND’s graduate students' workover the past academic year, took place on March 7. Students presented their work in a poster-format and were judged byfaculty. This year, Petroleum Engineering was represented by: Ahmed Al-Metwally, “Using 3-D Printing Technology toSimplify the Physics of Fluid Flow in Porous Media: Challenges, Solutions, and Applications”; Ogochukwu Ozotta,“Geomechanical Impacts of CO2 Sequestration on Rock Properties”; and Omar Akash, “Simulations of Hydraulic Fracturingin Perforated Wellbores.”

PE Students Participate in Annual PetroBowlThe 2019 PetroBowl North America Regional Qualifier took place on February 3 inHouston, Texas during the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE).The PetroBowl competition pitches SPE student chapter teams against each other ina series of quick-fire rounds, answering technical and nontechnical industry-relatedquestions. Pascoal Nkunzi, Kashia Cha, Lawand Ismail, and Matthew Jelinskiparticipated on behalf of the UND SPE chapter.
