Cat 3126B HEUI Engine. The Cat 3126Bdiesel engine is a six cylinder, four-cycledesign that provides long, effectivepower strokes for high torque and morecomplete fuel combustion. The 3126Bengine is equipped with an electronicair inlet heater. The heater warms theair in the air inlet manifold for easierstarting and reduced white smoke oncold starts.

Turbocharger and Aftercooler. A well-matched turbocharger and air-to-airaftercooler results in increased power.The exhaust driven turbocharger packsmore air into the cylinders, while theair-to-air aftercooler cools the pressurizedair from the turbocharger, making theengine intake air denser. The increasedair in the cylinder results in morepower, improved combustion, andreduced exhaust emissions.

Torque Rise. The direct injectedelectronic fuel system provides acontrolled fuel delivery increase asthe engine lugs back from rated speed.This results in increased horsepowerabove rated power. A combination ofincreased torque rise and maximumhorsepower improves response andprovides greater drawbar pull.

Torque Converter. The 561N singlestage torque converter efficientlyresponds to changing load conditionsby providing torque multiplication,therefore increasing drawbar power.It also provides protection to the drivetrain components by preventingshock loads. The torque converter isefficiently matched to the power traincomponents and provides the superiorperformance you need.

Auto-Shift/Auto-Kickdown. Auto-shiftallows the operator to pre-select aforward and reverse gear for easy,efficient directional changes.

Auto-shift settings include:

• First forward to second reverse.

• Second forward to second reverse.

• Second forward to first reverse.

Auto-kickdown allows the transmissionto automatically downshift whensignificant load increases are detected.

Steering Clutch and Brakes. Oil cooled,hydraulically actuated, large diameterplates and clutch discs provide highertorque capacity and increased service life.

Transmission. The proven planetarypower shift transmission features threespeeds forward and three speeds reverseand utilizes large diameter, high capacity,oil cooled clutches. To maximize thelife of the transmission, the planetarydesign distributes loads and stressesover multiple gears.

• Controlled throttle shifting regulatesengine speed during high-energydirectional shifts for smootheroperation and longer component life.

• The transmission and bevel gear setare modular by design, and easilyslide into the machine’s rear case.

• Forced oil flow lubricates and coolsclutch packs to provide maximumclutch life.

• Load compensating shifting providessmooth engagement of the clutchesunder loaded conditions.

Elevated Final Drive. Final drives areisolated from ground and work toolinduced impact loads for extendedpower train life.

Electronic Steering and TransmissionControls. The 561N provides Finger TipControl for steering. Soft touch buttonslocated on the steering controls shift theelectronically controlled transmission.

Electronic Clutch Pressure Control.The 561N has an additionaltransmission-shifting feature for addedperformance and operator comfort —the Electronic Clutch Pressure Control(ECPC). This unique feature providessmoother shifting by regulating andmodulating the individual clutchesbased on current operating conditions.

Three-Speed Forward/Reverse GearSelection. Three-speed forward/reversegear selection is achieved simply bypressing the yellow speed selectionbuttons. These buttons are integratedinto the Finger Tip Control group.

• Automatic shifting features andreduced lever efforts provide easierupshift and downshift, increasedoperator comfort, reduced fatigue,and shortened cycle times.

Electronic Clutch and Brake SteeringSystem. The electronic clutch and brakesteering system incorporates low effortfinger tip levers allowing the operatorto work more precisely in close areas,around structures, obstacles and gradestakes. Pulling the left or right fingerpaddle causes the machine to turnaccording to the amount of paddledisplacement.

• Another feature aimed at operatorcomfort is electric verticaladjustment of the FTC controlgroup. This positions the operator’sarm for efficient ergonomics.

Machine Direction. Moving themachine’s transmission forward/neutral/reverse direction lever controls machinedirection. The middle position puts themachine transmission in neutral.

Auto-shift and Auto-kickdown. Auto-shift and Auto-kickdown include thefollowing features:

• Auto-shift allows the operator topreselect a forward and reverse gearfor frequent directional changes.The settings include first forward tosecond reverse, second forward tosecond reverse and second forwardto first reverse.

• Auto-kickdown automaticallydownshifts from any gear whenthe machine detects a significantincrease in load.

Electronic Monitoring System (EMS III).EMS III provides the operator instantfeedback on machine conditions andrecords performance data to helpdiagnose problems. Optional Rotating Bushing Track.Rotating Bushing Track is designed toextend system life and lower costs inhighly abrasive low to moderate impactapplications. RBT features bushingsthat rotate when in contact with thesprocket. Since the bushing rotateswhen in contact with the sprocket,relative motion between the bushingand the sprocket is virtually eliminated,greatly reducing bushing and sprocketwear. The minimal bushing wear thatoccurs is evenly distributed over thebushing’s surface. This design eliminatesbushing turn maintenance expense.

Complete Guarding. Caterpillarundercarriages are designed with fulllength guarding on top of the trackroller frame. This prevents abrasivematerials from falling down onmoving parts.

Roller Frames. Roller frames aretubular, to resist bending and twisting.The recoil system is sealed andlubricated.

Optional High Flange Improved TrackRollers. Combined with center or fulllength roller guard attachments greatlyimprove track guiding for demandingside slope conditions.

Track Shoes. Select from 560 mm(22 in) to 760 mm (30 in) single grousershoes made from heat-treated, rolledsteel for added strength. This allows fornarrow machine transportability on lowground pressure arrangements.

Electronic Monitoring System.The 561N features a more flexiblemonitoring system that is easilyupgraded by flashing software ratherthan replacing the module, reducingparts cost. As technology changes andnew electronics and software becomeavailable, this upgraded monitoringsystem will allow the machine to beeasily updated.

Built-in Serviceability. Less servicetime means more working time. Majorcomponents are designed as modulesand most can be removed withoutdisturbing or removing othercomponents.
