Updated Look. The G-Series machinesfeature a new, more appealing lookwith rounder corners, new operatorcompartment and a sleeker shape.

sleek, narrow hood, the D5G combineseye-catching styling with solid, reliableperformance.

StylingStep up to a new machine. The G-Series machines have a new look, one that will haveeveryone eager to operate them.

Caterpillar 3046 Diesel Engine.Designed specifically for small tomedium size earthmoving machines,the Cat six-cylinder 3046 engine isinherently balanced, providing lowvibration, superior performance andexceptional responsiveness. A 25%torque rise at 1400 RPM providesincreased lugging force during heavyloads. The D5G is equipped with the

powerful turbocharged 3046 T, designedfor improved response and performanceat lower engine speeds. This is importantfor earthmoving machines in the under100 hp size class, allowing operators towork in tight spaces, at part throttle andslower travel speeds without sacrificingresponsiveness. The turbocharger alsohelps reduce fuel consumption andsound levels.

Direct Injection Fuel System. The directinjection fuel system is adjustment freefor reduced maintenance. High pressurefuel injection results in reduced fuelconsumption and emissions. Electric,internal fuel shut-off solenoid is protectedfrom the elements to provide long life.

Turbocharger. The turbochargerimproves response and performanceat low to medium engine speeds.

Spin-on Oil and Fuel Filters. Spin-on oiland fuel filters are vertically mountedand easily accessible for fastermaintenance.

In-cylinder Glow Plugs. In-cylinderglow plugs deliver dependable startswhen operating in cold temperatures.A built-in temperature switch helpsensure lasting reliability.

Lubrication System. Gear driven oilpump provides lubrication from a deepsump oil pan. An efficient, multiple-plate, water-cooled oil cooler prolongsengine and lubricant life.

Cooling System. A large diameter fanand full length, water-cooled cylinders,combined with excellent thermalefficiency, minimize heat rejection,prevent overheating and prolongengine life.

Regulations. The Caterpillar 3046 Tengine meets Tier I EPA, MOC andCE regulations.

EngineThe well-proven Caterpillar 3046 six-cylinder engine provides smooth, responsive power,excellent fuel economy and lasting reliability.

Simpler Operation, Improved Control.We listened to our customers anddesigned the new G-Series machineswith even simpler operation andimproved control. This allows theoperator to concentrate on moreimportant aspects of the job suchas blade control.

Joystick Control. The joystick control iseasy to use. Speed, direction and steeringare all controlled with the joystick.The result is easier operation andimproved productivity. Ergonomicplacement reduces operator effortand fatigue.

Speed and Direction. The joystick hasthree simple detented positions fortravel: forward, reverse and neutral.A new feature is the capability to utilizefaster reverse speed as a percentage offorward speed for increased productivity.Two joystick-mounted buttons are usedto infinitely increase and decreasespeed. An indicator on the dash displaysthe tractor’s current operating speedsetting. When the joystick is moved tothe neutral position, the machine stops.

Steering. With the machine moving inforward or reverse, move the joystickto the left to turn the machine to the left;move the joystick to the right to turnright. The more the handle is movedto the right or left, the tighter the turn.Regardless of ground conditions,steering is consistent and predictable.Moving the joystick to the far right orleft will make the tracks counterrotatefor maneuvering in tight work areas.

Counterrotation. The D5G maneuverseasily through side loading bladeapplications. Simply engage counter-rotation briefly to correct machineposition. Counterrotation also provideseasy, quick maneuvering in small,confined work areas.

Tracking. The D5G has excellenttracking capabilities which increaseproductivity on side slopes.

Powerturn. Utilizing active effort ofboth tracks during a turn allows formore pushing power at the blade andless spillage of material from the blade.

Hydrostatic Transmission ControlSimple joystick control eases operation and increases productivity.

Cat Exclusive Rotating Bushing TrackOption. Available on the D5G, theCaterpillar exclusive Rotating BushingTrack (RBT) increases undercarriagesystem life and reduces maintenance.Bushings rotate when in contact withthe sprocket, removing the need toturn pins and bushings. This reducesdowntime, balances component wear,reduces noise and allows components,such as links and bottom rollers,to reach their maximum wear life.

Durable Components. Caterpillarundercarriages are designed for longwear and lower owning and operatingcosts. Advanced metallurgy processesproduce superior wear properties.

Available Configurations. The D5G isavailable in either an extra long (XL)or low ground pressure (LGP)undercarriage configuration.

XL Undercarriage. Track lengthis extended on extra long (XL)undercarriages for increased groundcontact area and flotation, superiorbalance and excellent finish grading.

LGP Undercarriage. Low groundpressure (LGP) undercarriage offers awider track, increasing ground contactarea for optimum flotation and stabilityon sloping and finish grading jobs. Asstandard equipment, the G-Series LGPundercarriage provides an additionalbottom roller versus the C-Series.

Undercarriage with Rotating Bushing Track OptionLowest owning and operating costs are delivered by the Caterpillar exclusive RotatingBushing Track option.

Parallelogram Ripper. This new, largertool is more aggressive and allows theoperator to do more effective ripperwork. Heavy duty design provides longlife. Parallel linkage design allows forbetter penetration and maneuverabilityin tight working areas. A longer shankdelivers more work per pass makingthe machine more productive.

Product Link. This option allows thecustomer or dealer to obtain machinediagnostics and location from theiroffice, eliminating trips and phone calls.Scheduled service can be completedmore efficiently, thus reducing owningand operating costs. The product linkprovides updates on service meter hoursand machine location as well as integratedmapping/route planning.

Hydrostatic Winch. The new Caterpillarexclusive hydrostatic winch providessmooth modulation, infinitely variablespeed and better control. With itshydrostatic drive, this winch deliversoutstanding results with less operatoreffort.

AttachmentsThe new parallelogram ripper and hydrostatic winch make the D5G even more productiveon your jobsite.

VPAT Blade. The VPAT blade isspecifically designed for finish grading,backfilling ditches, cutting V ditches,windrowing, fill spreading, mediumland clearing and heavy dozing. VPATblades are built with four full-width,box-section reinforcement cells forunmatched strength and durability.

Increased Blade Capacity. Blade capacityhas been increased by 14% to greatlyimprove productivity.

Blade and MainframeWith a 14% increase in blade capacity, the Variable Pitch, Power Angle and Tilt (VPAT)blade is designed and built for unmatched versatility, durability and strength.

Larger Trunnion. The blade trunnionball size has been increased to providelonger life of the trunnion and reduceowning and operating costs. The trunnionis also now mounted on the C-frameinstead of the blade.

Adjustable Top Pitch Link. The adjustabletop pitch link provides a solid linkbetween the blade and the top of the tilttower on the C-frame. The turn buckletop pitch link allows the blade pitch tobe adjusted without the use of tools.The cutting edge position can beadjusted between 50 and 55 degrees.The pitch link cover has been redesignedto provide better retention.

Improved Pin Joints. Pin joints havebeen improved to be more durable andprovide longer life. Remote lubricationpoints provide easier service.

One-Piece Mainframe. Modeled afterthe large Caterpillar track-type tractors,the mainframe provides a solid backbone for handling forces generated

during tough dozing. The roboticwelding process delivers reliabilityand durability throughout the lifeof the machine.

Winch. Previous mechanical wincheswere driven by shafts and controlledby brakes and clutches. This newwinch is driven by its own closed-loophydrostatic system consisting of avariable displacement hydraulic pistonpump and motor.

Infinitely Variable Speed Control.Similar to the hydrostatic system usedto drive and control the tracks of thetractor, this winch offers outstandingcontrol of the load with infinitelyvariable modulation of speed and pull.Other shaft-driven winches force theoperator to choose the gear ratio of thewinch. The G-Series hydrostatic wincheliminates this compromise by providingthe speed of a standard speed winch andthe pull of a low speed winch, all inone package.

Hydrostatic WinchProviding high line pull and high line speed, this new winch improves controlfor better modulation.

Forestry Segment. A new, easier way towork in the woods. The new hydrostaticwinch makes the job easier with:
