Hinged Radiator Guard. The hingedradiator guard protects the coolingsystem. It comes equipped withtwo quick release “T” handles for thecenter-opening guard, allowing easyaccess to the radiator for cleaning.Covers protect the handles from damage.Special hinge latches retain the guardin the open or closed positions.

Tilt Cylinder Lines Guards. The tiltcylinder lines guards help protecthydraulic lines from contact damage,while maintaining hose flexibility.

Extreme Service Crankcase (bottom)Guards. The crankcase (bottom) guardsserve a dual purpose. They help preventcontact damage to vital power traincomponents, and help keep debris outof the power train compartments.

Chassis Guards. The chassis guardshelp protect the engine compartmentby deflecting debris from rising upwardalong the chassis.

Pivot Shaft Seal Guards. The pivot shaftseal guards help prevent debris fromentering and damaging the Duo-Cone®

seals as well as protecting the bolts onthe pivot shaft seal retainers.

Note: The D6R Series III does not havea pivot shaft.

Extensive guarding helps protect critical machine components, body panels and the radiatorfrom being damaged by debris under harsh waste handling environments. Minimizing build-up helps prevent component damage.

Waste Handling Guards

Idler Seal Guards. The idler seal guardshelp keep wire, fishing line, strapping,etc., from wrapping around and damagingthe Duo-Cone seals.

Final Drive Seal Guards. The final driveseal guards help prevent wire, nylonstrapping, etc., from wrapping aroundand damaging the Duo-Cone seals.The outer guard is now stationary,thicker, and has increased hardness,all of which help prevent excessivewear from debris.

Seal Guard Design. This design offerssuperior protection to the seal. Debriswould have to make four 90° turns,penetrate the packing material, and thenmake two additional 90° turns.

Rear, Tank-mounted Lights. The rear,tank-mounted lights are relocated on theROPS, which removes the lights fromthe concentrated debris environmentto help protect them from damage.Combinations vary depending oneach model.

Front Lights. The front lights aremounted on top of the bulldozer liftcylinders allowing them to project lightover the trash rack and keep the lightsabove the concentrated debrisenvironment for longer service life.

Heavy-duty Handles. The heavy-dutyhandles are manufactured from solidrod to withstand the rigors of landfilloperation.

High-capacity Ducted Alternator.The high-capacity 95-amp alternatorprovides additional power required forelectrical accessories such assupplemental lights andcommunications and entertainmentradios. The ducting helps prevent debrisfrom entering into the alternator.

Additional Sealing. To help eliminatedebris entry into areas of the machineadditional sealing is provided. Key areasinclude: engine enclosures, platforms,hydraulic tank, ROPS support, batterybox, striker bar box, and rear case opening.

Debris Resistant FeaturesAdditional modifications enhance productivity and help prevent damage.

Clamshell Guards. The clamshell guardprovides a non-rotating guard installedover the final drives to help preventwire wrap. The guard includesinspection plates.

Radiator (AMOCS) (D7R II). The AMOCSradiator utilizes an exclusive two passcooling system and increased coolingsurface area to provide significantlymore cooling capacity than conventionalsystems. A trash core radiator is availablewith six fins per inch, replacing thestandard nine fins per inch.

Radiator (AMOCS with NGMR) (D6R III).The AMOCS radiator with the NextGeneration Modular Radiator utilizes atwo pass system. This system providesmore efficient heat exchange andimproved cooling capacity over D6R II.The coolant is routed from a sectionedbottom tank up to the front side,over the top core to the bottom tank.This flow pattern allows the coolantto pass through the radiator twice forbetter cooling.

Flexxaire Fan Engine Control System.The Flexxaire fan engine control systemautomatically reverses fan pitch atpreset intervals to purge debris fromthe radiator and engine compartment.The operator also can manually purgethe fan at any time. The Flexxaire fanis controlled by the engine ECM(Electrical Control Module).

Ejector Fan. The ejector fan blade isdesigned with curved edges to helpthrow debris out radially. This helpsprevent debris from clogging the radiator.

Required AttachmentsThese options must be ordered in addition to the basic Waste Handling Arrangement.

Engine Enclosures. The engineenclosures consist of perforated hoodand side panels. The enclosures helpprevent airborne materials fromentering the engine compartment andhelp reduce radiator plugging, whichcan cause cooling system problems.

Note: If the sound suppressionarrangement is ordered, the perforatedside panels are replaced with solid doorsand the perforated hood is replaced withlarger rectangular perforations.

Hydraulic and Fuel Tank guard.The hydraulic and fuel guard helpsprotect implement hydraulic oil tank,battery box and fuel tank.

• Plates are included on the D7R IIto cover the light openings after theyare repositioned on top of cylindersand ROPS.

Rear Striker Bars. The rear striker barsincorporate a rigid drawbar and housingwith large access doors for storage onmachines not equipped with rippers.The rear striker bars are counterweight-ready in case additional rear weight isneeded. For machines with rippers,striker bars mount on ripper frame.

ROPS-mounted Air ConditionerCondenser and Fans. The ROPS-mounted air conditioner condenserand fans are mounted to the back of theROPS to maintain overall machine height.

• Moving the condenser and fansaway from the radiator reducesthe concentration of debris andplugging. This relocation alsoincreases the cooling capacity ofthe machine for operation in highertemperatures.

Required Attachments

Laminated Thermal Shields.The laminated thermal shields cover theexhaust stack inside the compartment,hot-side of the turbocharger, and theexhaust manifold. These shields reducesurface temperatures well below theflash point of most commoncombustibles encountered.

Supplemental Cylinder Mounted Lights.The supplemental cylinder mountedlights (four front) are repositioned fromthe fender/ openings to the top of thecylinders. The fender openings arecovered with plates to prevent debrisfrom entering.

Caterpillar Turbine Air Precleaner.The Caterpillar turbine precleanerprovides improved engine air filtrationby using the OPTIMAX dual-stageprecleaner powered by the engine’sintake and exhaust airflows. Intake airis spun by a flow driven impeller.Debris stratifies along the outer walland is ejected back into the environment.Remaining contaminates are collectedand removed by a secondary scavengersystem, allowing only precleaned airto continue to the engine’s air filter.

Caterpillar Landfill Blades.The Caterpillar landfill blades increasethe dozing capacity in trash and helpprevent material from spilling overthe blade and entering the radiator.Wear plates are available and arerecommended when working inhighly abrasive materials.

Front Striker Bars. The front striker barsangled design prevents debris fromriding up the track and damaging thefenders or fuel and hydraulic tanks.

Center Hole Track Shoes (D6R Series III).The center hole track shoes reduce refusepacking within the track and reducestrack chain tightening and acceleratedpin and bushing wear. The center holesrelieve packing by allowing the sprocketto punch out dirt and debris.

Trapezoidal Hole Track Shoes(D7R Series II). The trapezoidal holetrack shoes reduce refuse packingwithin the track and reduces trackchain tightening and accelerated pinand bushing wear. The trapezoidal holesrelieve packing by allowing the sprocketto punch out dirt and debris.

Black Painted Hood, Cylinders, andBack of Blade. The black painted hood,cylinders, and back of blade reducesglare from lights while operating at nightand while operating in direct sunlight.

Hydraulic Rippers. Hydraulic rippersare available as single or multi-shankto penetrate tough material fast and ripthoroughly.

Beacon Light. A heavy-duty FederalSignal Pulsator 551 single flash (5 joules)strobe beacon unit is weather sealed andwater resistant with the power supplyencased in gel. The beacon is wireddirectly and can only be turned off bythe disconnect switch. Extends abovethe highest part of the machine forenhanced visibility.

Features for peak performance. Several additional options are recommended to assistin matching your site requirements.

Recommended Options

Remote Disconnect. Located in the cab,the remote disconnect switch is in serieswith the standard machine disconnect.The switch, located on the left side ofthe operator seat at knee level, allowsthe operator to access the disconnectswitch quickly.

Enhanced Cab. The enhanced cabprovides higher cab pressurization forimproved cab air quality in dust anddebris-laden applications. Includes apowered precleaner, with a highefficiency filter, which reduces systemmaintenance intervals.

Rear Vision Camera. The camera systemcan be used to enhance the operator’svisibility of his surroundings, or providea better view of his work tool to increaseproductivity. The single camera systemis compact, rugged, reliable andextremely simple to use. It is designedto be operated in the “automatic” modewhere the picture remains dark untilthe machine is placed in reverse gear.The 7 inch color display is mountedon top of the front dash on the left side,and is designed to have a sharp, clearpicture with a 115 degree horizontalcamera mounted to the Air Conditionerstructure.

Computer Aided Earthmoving System(CAES). The Computer AidedEarthmoving System (CAES) is a hightechnology earthmoving tool that allowsmachine operators to achieve maximumlandfill compaction, desired grade/slope,and conserve and ensure even distributionof valuable cover soil with increasedaccuracy. This state-of-the-art machinecontrol system delivers real-timeelevation, compaction and grade controlinformation to machine operators on anin-cab display. By monitoring grade andcompaction progress, operators havethe information they need to maximizethe efficiency of the machine, resultingin proper drainage and optimumairspace utilization.

Built-in Servicing Ease. Less servicetime computes to more production time.Major components are made as modulesand most can be removed withoutdisturbing or removing others.

Grouped Service Points. Grouped servicepoints and easy access to servicingareas make routine inspections fastand convenient.

Power Train Oil Filter and PressureTaps. The power train oil filter andpressure taps are remote-mounted in theright-hand fender. This provides ease ofservice and aids machine diagnostics.

Water Separator and Fuel Filter.Easily located just inside the engineaccess panel, the water separatorfunctions as the primary fuel filter,just ahead of the secondary fuel filter.A standard electric priming pump onthe primary filter reduces the effortrequired to prime the system.

Quick Disconnect Fittings. The quickdisconnect fittings allow for fastdiagnosis of the power train andimplement oil systems.

Ecology Drains. The ecology drainsprovide an environmentally safer methodto drain fluids. They are included on theradiator, hydraulic tank and majorpower train components.

Diagnostic Connector. A diagnosticconnector allows the Cat Dealer’selectronic test instrument to quicklytroubleshoot the electrical system oraccess stored data with the use ofElectronic Technician (Cat ET) or ECAP.

Pre-testing Modular Components.Pre-testing modular componentsbefore installation or after repairassures quality.

Underhood Service Light. To makenighttime service and maintenance easier,an adjustable service light is locatedunder the hood behind the radiator.

ServiceabilityCat elevated sprocket tractors use a new generation modular design that simplifies serviceand repair. Easy maintenance and fast in-field component exchange gives you more timeon the job.

Machine Selection. Make detailedcomparisons of the machines you areconsidering before you buy. How longdo components last? What is the costof preventive maintenance? What is thetrue cost of lost production? Your Catdealer can give you answers to thesevery important questions.
