The Hydrostatic Drive eliminates theneed for transmission shifting, whichallows the operator to concentrate onworking, maneuvering and production.

The Electronic Hydrostatic Control(EHC) controls the hydrostaticdrive system.

■ Electronic Hydrostatic Controlautomatically adjusts machine speedto give the equipment hydraulicsystem priority, while the hydrostaticsystem takes advantage of allavailable engine power.

■ It maintains engine rpm in optimumoperating range and balances the twotrack drive systems for straight travelwithout machine drift.

Variable displacement pumps andvariable displacement drive motorsare electronically controlled byEHC, offering high efficiency andprecise travel.

■ Each track is driven by a separatehydraulic circuit consisting of onevariable-displacement piston pump,connected by Caterpillar’s XT-6hydraulic hose and couplings toa variable-displacement piston motor.

Separate hydraulic pumps offer easyservicing. Pumps are shown in yellowabove.

Independent power to each track forspeed, maneuverability, or sideslopeoperation.

Counter rotation allows spot turns intight space conditions.

Travel speeds are infinitely variablebetween zero and top speed. Theoperator may select one of twooperation modes. “Work mode”optimizes the torque characteristics ofthe power train for maximumproductivity and is therefore theappropriate choice for mostapplications. An operator will choose“travel mode” to optimize the speedcharacteristics of the power train forapplications requiring long traveldistances.

The Cat 3306 Diesel Engine is a sixcylinder, four-cycle design thatprovides long, effective power strokesfor high torque and more complete fuelcombustion.

The Computerized Monitoring Systemoffers three main functions:

■ Quick and simple calibration of thehydrostatic drive system.

■ Alerting the operator of particularsituations can help prevent damage.For maximum reliability, anautomatic self-test is performed bythe system during every start.

■ By monitoring hydrostatic andelectrical systems, the CMSidentifies component(s) affectedand logs the abnormal values ofmeasured parameters in memoryto aid service personnel introubleshooting and repairs.

1 The gauge cluster contains fourgauges which monitor the followingfunctions:

■ Fuel level.

■ Engine coolant temperature.

■ Powertrain oil temperature.

■ Hydraulic oil temperature.

2 The warning cluster groups theindividual alert indicators of thefollowing:

■ High engine coolant temperature.

■ High powertrain oil temperature

■ Low engine oil pressure.

■ Air inlet heater activated.

■ Low hydrostatic system chargepressure.

■ High pump drive gear boxtemperature

The Computerized Monitoring Systemalso functions as a warning systemwith three levels of warning:

■ Operator awareness. An alertindicator signals a potential,non-critical situation.

■ Operator response required. Inaddition to the alert indicator, theaction warning light (4) flashes toindicate that continued operationcould cause component damage.

■ Immediate safe shutdown. An alertindicator illuminates the actionwarning light, flashes, and theaction alarm sounds to alert theoperator that continued operationwill cause immediate componentdamage or a safety devicemalfunction.
