SPECIAL EDITION FASTFRATE NEWS HAPPY 50 TH ANNIVERSARY TO ALL THE EMPLOYEES AND OWNER OPERATORS OF FASTFRATE AND CDI! There is so much to say, but not enough space to say it all. So let me speak a little about the past and a little about the future. There are not many companies in our industry that have survived 50 years. In order to accomplish this, certain things need to be in place. Paramount among those things are the good will, hard work, pride and ambition of our employee group. We have some people who have been with the company over 45 years. We have 198 people who have been with the company over 20 years, myself included. What does this say exactly? To me it says that when a large group of people, located across the country, work as a team for many years and the company survives and grows, the team is doing more things right than wrong. It speaks volumes about the intestinal fortitude, intelligence and work habits of the team. What we accomplished is something we should all take pride in. When I say all, I mean all. Every truck driver and dockworker, every sales person, administrator, engineer and coordinator. Survival for 50 years is a team accomplishment. There is no individual that did this. A team did this. For the last 22 years, I have had the honour of leading this team. Together we have built a formidable company. Let’s take a look at what we have accomplished together. 1) We have the best infrastructure in the industry. We have huge operating yards and terminals in all the major Canadian cities. 2) We have a relationship with CP Rail that is the envy of our industry. It has survived the entire 50 years, through management changes on both sides of the aisle. 3) We have several operating “buckets” including Logistics, which is well on its way to becoming significant on its own. We have Canada Drayage which was started as a “lightbulb” idea 16 years ago and today has over 400 trucks across the country. We have our supply chain services in several cities, better known as Special Ops. We have a truckload division, with the upcoming addition of BRS. We have our warehousing business in Calgary, Halifax and now Moncton. We have our transload business at the ports of Vancouver and Halifax. As far as I know, we are the only carrier in the country that offers transload, dray and LTL services on the west and east coast. We have our intra west trucking, we recently started intra east trucking, and now we have a GMA (greater metropolitan area) service in several cities which is about to be expanded in all cities. 4) Of course we have our LTL rail and truck service across the country, which is the service this company started doing in boxcars and then moved to intermodal containers about 15 years ago. We were the largest boxcar shipper of LTL freight in the country at the time of our transition to intermodal, and today we are the largest repositioner of international containers. This is what we have accomplished. So where are we going now? 1) We have never had a cross border service, and we are now about a month away from starting one. As stated, we have the best infrastructure in the country. Now we are taking that infrastructure and offering it up to selective partners to build 48 state coverage, to and from both the LTL and truckload market. That will be a significant shift in our business. We will get better utilization from our facilities and we will grow our service offering so that virtually any shipper in the country will have a piece of business that we can perform for them. 2) We will grow our logistic offering to include project teams that will coordinate the requirements of customers. We are on the verge of signing a few of these customers very shortly and this will change how we do business in many cities. My goal will be to have every branch in the network operate as if it is a separate company. We want the branches to be 100% self-sufficient to create local work through our GMA offering, or warehouse, or whatever local requirements our customers are looking for. If we are successful in doing this, it changes our pricing power on our regular LTL business. It is no secret that this is a tough market. It is defined by too many carriers chasing too little business and for us to be successful, we need to be able to charge the rates that make sense to us. If we get all our branches working independently we become less reliant on low priced business, we are able to pick and choose who we want to do business with, and we can generate better margins for ourselves. 3) We are a private company and we want to remain a private company. I have seen too many companies our size go public, and then kill themselves trying to satisfy shareholders on a quarterly basis. We want to run this business for the long term and not for the next quarter. This gives us a competitive advantage over our publicly traded competitors as our decisions are made for the long term. 4) We have a very formidable real estate portfolio and going forward we want to grow it even more. Edmonton will be coming on board shortly and I hope there will be others we can add. Currently as a company we own over 150 acres of prime land and roughly 1 million square feet of dock, office and warehouse spread out over eight cities, in seven provinces. The future is bright for Fastfrate. With the goodwill, hard work and dedication that our group has shown up until this point and with the help of our customers and suppliers, we will be able to continue this voyage for the next 50 years. HAPPY 50TH ANNIVERSARY TO ALL THE EMPLOYEES AND OWNER OPERATORS OF FASTFRATE AND CDI!There is so much to say, but not enough space to say it all.

As far as

I know, we are the only carrier in the country that offers transload, dray and LTL services on the west and east coast.

A NOTE FROM KEVIN HANKINSON – VP SUPPLY CHAIN SOLUTIONS

Our teams in Western Canada are always working hard to support growth, exceed client expectations, manage productivity, streamline costs and find efficiencies. Here are some of the highlights showing how our employees always rise to the occasion during challenging economic times, while serving new and longtime clients. There were even a few awards in the mix for Carrier of the Year and stellar Health & Safety records. We applaud the commitment to excellence across all our teams.

CDI Vancouver

GROWING OUR BUSINESS

Danielle Montreuil joined CDI Vancouver as our GM in May 2016. Danielle is well connected in the container drayage world and is looking forward to adding new client relationships and growing our share of the business. Prior to joining CDI, she successfully supported company growth through engaged client relationships, team building and development, and consistent customer service. She is well positioned to lead our CDI Vancouver team and business to new heights. Outside of work Danielle enjoys taking part in equestrian sports with her four horses.

In April 2016, Scott Arnsdorf rejoined Fastfrate as Vancouver General Manager. Scott brings many years of company knowledge and customer relationships. Scott is supported by his leadership team including Lindsay Barret, LTL Operations Manager, Cheryl Merriman, Transload Manager, and Stan Carter, Fleet and Compliance. Scott and his team are focused on meeting our client service needs, managing our productivity, supporting the growth in the Vancouver market place, and ensuring we have a financially sound, healthy business. Scott has always been a team player. He was captain of a national championship team in the Canadian Junior Football League in his youth and continues to stay involved in amateur sports. This past winter his family billeted three junior hockey players from the BCHL.

E D M O N T O NA NEW FACILITY

Earlier this summer the employees of the Edmonton branch were pleased to finally see the official announcement that the wheels were in motion to move to a newer facility. The new location, located about 20 blocks south of the current facility, is located on roughly 10 acres of land and the buildings themselves take up a palatial 80,000 square feet. The yard is fully paved, fenced, and gated and houses the new warehouse, office space, and separate service/mechanic building.

PROMOTIONS TO MENTION

With Edmonton having a very skilled and hardworking staff, there were some well- deserved promotions and advancements recently. Alyssa Butt was promoted to Administration Supervisor, Fleet/Compliance, Health & Safety.

Megan McLaren advanced to the position of Interline Coordinator and is doing an excellent job in managing this key piece of business. Lorrissa Haisan advanced to the appointment coordination position and is doing great work ensuring all appointments are pre-booked on time and our freight is moving fluently. Erica Doctor, with help from Jodi Belcourt, has taken on the OSD position with a passion. Congratulations to all and with a new facility in sight, there will be business growth and countless opportunities for advancements for our talented staff.

TEAMWORK

Bill Shupenia and his team of Christina Suhrmann (Operations) and Alyssa Butt (Administration Manager), continue to provide stable and consistent leadership for the Edmonton branch. The Alberta economy, in particular northern Alberta, was hit especially hard by the falling oil prices. Bill and his team have demonstrated resiliency in the face of the local economic challenges and adjusted to meet the changing landscape. The branch continues to find ways to manage down costs and find efficiencies. They have also been focused on new business as well. Recently an account was secured to begin a significant new commercial relationship with a large Canadian retailer. This is a game changer for Edmonton that will greatly expand the local and area business activity. The branch was recently recognized by WCB Alberta for an extraordinary workplace health and safety record. The branch performed far better than industry expectation and standards. This is symbolic of Bill and his team’s commitment to ensure we provide a safe workplace for our employees.

Despite the current difficulties with the facility and equipment and the economic rough patch we’ve had this year resulting in reduced hours for our dock staff, they always rise above the adversity and continue to excel at providing exceptional loading and unloading with finesse and accuracy. Our drivers have also done a top notch job being the face of the company to our customers and providing the exceptional customer service that has become synonymous with the Fastfrate name. We would also like to welcome all the newcomers to the Fastfrate team who not only have big shoes to fill, but who are doing an excellent job at learning and executing their tasks to become vital members of the Edmonton team.

Thank you for the continuous hard work that makes our branch such a big success!

C A L G A R YMAKING THINGS HAPPEN

Fastfrate Calgary is in the process of searching for a branch manager. In the interim, the branch has been led by a committee team comprised of Lisa Keller (Dock), Joanne Risser (Administration) and Dave Hickson (Dispatch). Dave was a Fastfrate driver for years before taking this position and Lisa spent some time last fall being trained by other team mates on the dock before taking on her current role. She sends her thanks to Blair Risser, Jim Suttie, Tom Miller, Phil Crowell, and Wes Dymtruk for taking the time to show her the ropes. The trio has stepped up to the plate to take charge of their respective areas of responsibility and successfully tackle the day to day challenges of planning and running an LTL operation. The Calgary warehouse is being led by Lois Aikins (CSR) and Arvin Lanto (CSR) along with Randy Dale (Foreman). Our clients are very pleased with their collective performance. We have capacity in our warehouse and are keen to bring in additional clients to fill that capacity and provide them with quality service.

Calgary, like Edmonton, was also recognized by WCB Alberta for extraordinary workplace health and safety. The entire team, along with Brenda Leddy and Kelly Peterson, did an outstanding job of managing and supporting the culture of providing a safe and healthy workplace. The Calgary branch has been selected by a large Calgary rooted firm to provide daily, large volume distribution and handling services through-out southern Alberta which is due to start in the coming weeks. Our team is looking forward to taking on this business and getting the job done for our client. One of the relationships our Calgary sales executive, Mel O’Neil, manages is Newell Rubbermaid. Earlier this year Newell selected Fastfrate as their Carrier of the Year for Western Canada. The Newell team members have said they are truly satisfied with our team’s engagement, execution, and customer support in getting their goods to their clients when needed, in the condition required. This is a wonderful client endorsement of the people in our network who look after our clients’ goods.

CDI Calgary is a team of four who always find a way to get the job done efficiently and effectively. The team is comprised of Gerry Chase, Kari Dyer, Rachel Zheng, and Kari Marshall. They are cohesive, resilient and creative. They have been able to add additional new business and maintain large incumbent contracts, all in the face of the challenged and predatory competitive landscape which Alberta is clearly faced with. They have developed and nurtured a sound, healthy relationship with their owner operators. This has been critical in allowing for creative, cost effective, and timely solutions to ensure CDI is not just maintaining their market share, but growing while ensuring the business is healthy and viable.

Kari Dyer, City Manager, is responsible for local and drayage for Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg. Kari’s nine years of experience at CDI brings a level of professionalism that exceeds our high level of service standards and she is able to assist any customer or co-worker.

Rachel Zheng, Administration Manager, is responsible for all A/P and A/R activity in our office and payroll for all our drivers and partner carriers. Rachel also brings nine years of experience with CDI, and she has a keen ability to spot patterns and inefficiencies in drivers’ paperwork.

This allows her to realize cost savings and avoid billing errors which in turn lets us be more productive. Rachel is also trained to cover Kari Dyer when needed.

Kari Marshall, Fleet and Compliance, is responsible for managing the fleet and ensuring our drivers and carriers are following the rules. Kari joined us in 2015 and had previous experience with CDI. Kari’s ability to learn quickly and assist others allows her to be able to assist in all departments. She has trained to assist and cover Rachel as well as cover linehaul/interline dispatch, Fastfrate Fleet and Compliance when needed.

Gerry Chase is responsible for linehaul/interline lanes from BC to MB, CP Calgary dispatch and he assists in all office operations. Gerry brings four years of experience to the CDI team, as well as several years in previous logistical operations and carrier work. Managing the CP fleet and highway drivers, Gerry is able to work with a wide range of customers and meet their needs.

STILL GROWINGThe last year at CDI has proved quite a challenge for our growth because of the economy. This meant that our team had to be more creative in solving some of the logistical challenges presented to us. However, this spring and summer we have secured some projects that should enable us to grow and add more drivers when other companies are reducing staff. We renewed our CP contact in Calgary and starting July 2016 we have been awarded another three years of service. We have Home Depot Calgary drayage work from CN and CP to their distribution centre and the expected volumes are 2,000 to 4,000 containers per year.We are working with Canadian Tire, local service from their distribution centre in Calgary and CP, and we have been awarded the service to all their local stores.

IMPROVING INTRAWEST LTL In the face of a weak Alberta economy and price/rate pressures, we have been able to continue adding to our Intrawest LTL business while finding ways to manage our costs and achieve quality revenues. Each of our branch operations is very focused on managing our costs, the largest of which is linehaul. The team in the west (Manitoba to BC) discusses their linehaul picture and work together to set up the daily plan and minimize empty space. The pricing is led by Diana Kostadinova who is absolutely determined to maintain the margin requirements while doing everything possible to support the sales team and encourage clients to use our services.

FORTY YEARS OF SERVICE

It has been a while since we saw a newsletter & I am pleased to see it is up and running again. I took on the role of Branch Manager a year ago and some exciting changes have taken place since then.

Mr. Tepper gave the go ahead for some renovations to be done on the inside and the outside of the warehouse. The work was completed early this summer. We now have a 37 door cross-dock facility that is heated. We also renovated the offices, lunch room and bathrooms, and installed new lighting in the warehouse. We have a total of 22 unionized employees with some just starting and some going on forty years of service. Heather Bagot and Jasmine Mlinac have joined us and we also have an office staff of eight people and some of them have been here over 36 years. We are excited to see what this new year brings.

Ivan Flanjak - Branch Manager

AN EXCITING YEAR FOR CFF REGINA - NEW WORK SECURED

We operate the Regina terminal with 9 people that range from new employees to 35 year veterans. Our new terminal is located at the GTH (Global Transportation Hub) & was completed in Dec 2013. Our immediate neighbours include Loblaw DC, CP Intermodal, Enteria & the new SLBA DC which was completed early 2016.

We offer cross dock service & most recently secured a storage contract with Reliance Energy at the end of June this year. Starting July 01/16 CDI Regina was launched which is headed by Deanna Michel. Major accounts secured are CP Drayage to S’toon, CPLS loads to S’toon & the Hapag Lloyd moves within the province.

Happy 50th from all the staff @ Regina Branch.

FASTFRATE INTEGRATED LOGISTICS - TRIPLED REVENUE

Over the past year, our new service delivery team at Fastfrate Integrated Logistics has driven some very significant growth. In fact, revenue for June 2016 was three times that of June 2015! Key to this exciting trend was the acquisition of BR Smith logistics accounts in October 2015 and then a positive two-month initial opportunity with The Home Depot that started in May of 2016. Moreover, the hard work and dedication of the team of Logistics coordinators and managers was the real key to success. Coordinators John Moret, Chantelle Drake and now Victoria Mantini (who started in July) have really stepped up to handle the increase in workload in the Central Region branch. Cory Tepper in Vancouver and Julie Jones in Montreal have combined to bring solid volumes into the system from opposite ends of our Canadian network. We have also seen excellent volumes of LTL freight into the U.S. marketplace as a result of solid carrier relationships south of the border.

Our positive experience with the U.S. market has led us to develop an exciting new Cross Border Regional Service as a cornerstone of our growth strategy for Fastfrate Logistics. Under development for many months, with key input from Logistics managers Jamie Senin and Carrie Williamson, this service is nearing its full launch with high quality, family-owned Tier 2 U.S. carriers such as AAA Cooper, Sutton, Best Overnite and New England Motor Freight.

CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE

Over five decades of service we have forged long-standing partnerships with large corporations such as Canadian Tire, Canadian Pacific Railway, Home Hardware, Domtar and Home Depot, to name a few. It is through our loyalty and dedication to our customers, coupled with our out-of-the-box thinking and tailored solutions, that we have remained successful in a very competitive market.

Our Toronto branch sits on 44 acres of land and is home to Fastfrate’s corporate headquarters. With its 180,000 sq. feet of cross-dock space and 248 dock doors, Toronto offers a full menu of service options to its customers. Our terminal ships over 20,000 containers per year utilizing its partner in the Intermodal space, CP RAIL. We have strategically located our facilities adjacent to CP’s intermodal yards which allows us to leverage our partnership for our customers. We have direct access to their yards and all of CP’s equipment and are given priority over other carriers. Our relationship extends over 50 years since the beginning of Fastfrate and it is reciprocal: we are CP’s largest LTL carrier customer & they are our largest supplier.

Toronto has evolved since its beginning, when we were primarily focused on boxcar rail moves. We transitioned our services to container moves when CP diversified their business and this included utilizing our co-location with the rail line to its maximum potential. Customers such as Canadian Tire recognized a cost savings when their containers were shunted to our facility, eliminating the need for drayage. The evolution of Fastfrate Toronto continued with our Special Operations and this division was born when Canadian Tire furthered their partnership with us.

We recognized the need to diversify and meet the changing demands of our customers. With the excellence we brought forth in our solutions, our name quickly spread in the market as a versatile, dynamic transportation company, not limited to LTL.

Sid Jalil, VP of Central Region

THE GROWTH OF CDI

Since its inception, our CDI Toronto division has grown from 5 drivers to 105 owner operators over the past 15 years. CDI has become Canada’s only coast to coast national drayage provider. As our business grows, we are continually reinvesting in ourselves and most recently, we have upgraded our equipment. We are planning to purchase 260 brand new chassis; investing in a fixed asset of the business. We have demonstrated the ability to do just about anything that our customers require to fulfill their business needs. Customer centricity is a very important component of what CDI does and this directly contributes to our success.

TORONTO WRAP UPAll of these success stories could not have been possible without the loyalty and dedication of our employees. We have 198 employees who have been with our company for the past 20 years; 88 of which are located in the Toronto branch. In fact, Toronto has 18 employees who have been with Fastfrate for over 40 years. This is a testament to the commitment of both the staff and the company alike. We are truly a family where everyone’s efforts, opinions and passion to succeed come together for the greater good.

STAYING ON TOP OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Fastfrate’s first email server was a dial up server, with minimal space and very slow speed. At the time that was cutting edge. Now we have transitioned to Office 365 which is in the Cloud. Every user gets 50GB for email with a 200MB access to the Cloud. We also have the ability to access email from any device anywhere in the world.

Over the last 50 years technology has changed drastically. Fastfrate’s first mainframe (the great great grandfather of the computer on our desks today) was the size of a 40 foot container. The mainframe was running on tapes for storage, with zero redundancy built in. Currently, we are running more than thirty servers that vary in size, about 1 ft. by 3 ft., with 3000GB (192 iPhones) in storage. We are in the process of transitioning our servers to a virtual environment, where we can run more than thirty servers on three physical devices and have the ability to expand to 20,000GB.

GROWTH THROUGH SERVICE

Fastfrate Ottawa began on January 3rd, 1995 with Bill La Salle at the helm and three drivers, a sales person and an office clerk. Today we have grown to seven drivers, a dispatcher, an office manager and customer service. We are thrilled to be a part of the Fastfrate journey and wish everyone in the company a very happy 50th!

CLASSIC SERVICE, CLASSIC CARS, GREAT PEOPLE - Toronto Dockworkers

IT ALL STARTED WITH GIANNA AT CDI

Bill La Salle

WE EXECUTED 13,000 BILLS WITH 99% ACCURACY

This past June we were approached by Home Depot with a time sensitive, large project whereby they required Fastfrate to receive over 400 trailers of their product, cross dock the freight and distribute directly to their stores in Ontario and to their DC in Western Canada. Home Depot had challenged other carriers to perform this requirement within an extremely strict time frame; however no carrier was able to accommodate the request. Fastfrate committed to getting the project done within a 4 to 6 week time, and we executed 13,000 bills with 99% accuracy on the entire performance of the job. As a result of our performance and ability to suit Home Depot’s needs, we are growing the cross border and domestic business with the customer.

Most recently, we have been chosen to partner with Reliance Home Comfort, a leading provider in HVAC and water heater services in Canada. We will be acting as Reliance’s Distribution Centre for all of their branches and contractors. Their freight will be cycled through our warehouse and distributed via LTL daily across Ontario and to Western Canada. We are truly an extension of Reliance, and we will be acting as a 3PL for all of their supply chain requirements.

M O N T R E A L

A CHANGING WORLD

The world we live in is changing quickly because of consolidation in our industry and in the market. Shipping patterns are evolving which is squeezing the LTL portion, creating a much more competitive environment and causing erosion in the margins.

The business is in a transitional stage, and we need to grow into different markets that will allow us to make full use of our building capacity.

MSO/GMA

MSO has existed since the year 2000. This is our pick and pack dedicated service provided to CTC and is quite busy for six months of the year, leaving unused capacity for the other half the year.

We started a brand new service called GMA (Greater Metropolitan Area) which is a local city pick up and delivery service that all our customers require. Growth has been good in this area, with much more to come.

“HELLO FROM THE MONTREAL BRANCH“

Did you know that we are the largest cross dock facility in Quebec, sitting on 30 acres, and 180,000 sq. ft. cross dock, with 180 dock doors? Well we are the largest cross dock facility in Quebec! Well located in Lachine beside our partner CP rail, where we have a private entrance in and out of their yard.

This was not always the case. Up until 1998 we were in a small facility of 25,000 sq. ft. and sitting on 3 acres, yes that was it. We moved in 1998 to this facility and I must tell you when we moved, there was many a sleepless night on how we are going to make use of the facility and how we needed to expand the business to grow into the facility.

Today, we are almost at full capacity. We have become the largest LTL intermodal carrier in Montreal by far!

But that’s not all we are. We needed to create new services to make full use of our capacity. This created an MSO division who specialize in a pick and pack operation and distribution. We have added GMA to the MSO operation and in 2015, started our Cartage division which pick-ups and delivers freight next day anywhere in the province of Quebec.

That along with the growth of our CDI division, which saw our driver count triple in the last year, and the continued growth of our logistics division, has made this facility a multi service vibrant facility which still has many growth strategies.

The above does not happen without dedicated and driven individuals. We have shown the pride and passion to achieve the growth required. I would like to recognize all the work of the individuals who made this possible and want to thank everyone for their contribution.

Here’s to the next 50 years!

LOGISTICSWith the new offerings by Logistics, full loads on the intermodal service has given this division a 30% increase in revenue over last year.

CDI MONTREAL

We hired Manager Stephane Brunette, who has built a strong team and has worked collaboratively to increase our revenues in this area. A year ago this division had a total of twenty drivers working for it and today we have eighty drivers with more opportunities for growth on the horizon. We have brought on accounts including CPR, Affiliated, Kruger, Milgram, Canest and Garant. According to Stephane, “CDI Montreal is blessed with having high quality sales individuals who have helped grow the company. Local drayage has grown with new quality customers such as Affiliated, Kruger, Atlantic Promotions, BO BeBe, Omnitrans and Oceanex. Line Haul has also increased with existing customers using our services more and more to the U.S. and Ontario. Dedicated service with Canest and PTI cables has been steady and with the addition of the CP Dedicated local service, our driver base has increased from 18 to 82 company drivers and we are also using third parties when needed.

All of this growth could not have been realized without the hard work of the following individuals working in operations; Stephane Aganier, Ted Zacharkiw and Sylvie Daigle taking care of local. Valerie Lamontagne doing the Line Haul and Melanie Cote the dedicated service. On the Administration side of things, Paul Csombo has managed two individuals that have been here at CDI for over 10 years each, Brian Allie and Andre Evteev!”

AND FINALLY THE LTL ARM OF BUSINESS

Although this market has been squeezed, we have succeeded in maintaining our tonnage and revenue with some growth. Through our stable, experienced, loyal and dedicated staff we have been able to continue our growth on the LTL side.

Sharing knowledge and communication has been key in growing this division and knowledge makes us all stronger and better. I also expect continued growth from our LTL revenue.

In closing I would like to thank everyone on our Montreal team, CDI, MSO-GMA, Fasftrate LTL and Logistics, I am proud of this team and the energy they bring to work everyday. And most of all the winning attitude.

NOTHING LESS THAN 110% EFFORT

Fastfrate Halifax has seen its beautiful 8 year old facility blossom into a well-respected and vital part of the new logistics industrial park in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The location stands out not only in stature, but as one of the busiest yards in the Burnside Industrial Park. Fastfrate supports its own equipment along with supporting other carriers like VA, RST and Sunbury to name a few. The work we do for Canadian Tire (CTC), from their Ocean Carriage to Transloading to Intermodal to delivering to their local stores in the Maritimes, has been recognized by Canadian Tire as a necessary and vital part of the CTC’s supply chain.

We are lucky to have a very loyal staff who make everything work on a daily basis and who go beyond the call of duty. Fastfrate is a multi-serviced terminal with four divisions including LTL, Warehousing, Transload and CDI. We have lofty goals and aspirations for this terminal and through the leadership of Manny Calandrino and his team, they will be reached. Manny does not accept anything but a 110% effort from those he leads into commercial battle and because he works alongside his troops, we are winning every day.

GETTING TO KNOW OUR CUSTOMERS ON A PERSONAL LEVEL

After 35 years at our small facility with a 5,000 sq. ft. dock, we moved to our beautiful new facility. Our new location on Frennette Ave in the Caledonia Industrial Park, boasts a 30,000 sq. ft. dock.

We are all very pleased to be in our new surroundings & have settled in our new space. We have done some hiring to accommodate the extra workload in the office and on the dock. We have gone from a staff of 11 people to a staff of 22 and have gone from 3 to 11 trucks and from 10 to 26 trailers.

Our growing branch is doing a lot more of our own deliveries and getting to know our customers on a more personal basis. As you all know, this year is our 50th Anniversary and Moncton will celebrate this on September 26, 2016. Happy 50th Anniversary to you all for all of your hard work & dedication!

WE WENT FROM A NOBODY TO A SOMEBODY

Most employees with the Fastfrate group of companies are probably not aware that at one time St. John’s had a terminal with equipment and employees. This all changed in the summer of 1995 because of a slow and uncertain economy before the oil industry ignited in Newfoundland. We closed our terminal and as of September 15, 1995 we became an agency branch with Armour Transport doing our unloading and distribution. I found myself alone when these challenges began. There was fear of the unknown, wanting to succeed and having to learn. We persevered and met the challenge head on. Business began to come back and there was growth in tonnage, revenue and our customer base. We went from a nobody to a somebody.

It felt good to see a business right itself and become successful. We may not be a major piece of the Fastfrate group but we, like other branches, contribute and feel honored to be a part of the 50th anniversary. We continue to strive to do bet-ter every day. It’s been 21 years since we started this journey and we’ve never looked back.

WATCH OUT CALGARY WE HAVE THE SCOOT PALMER BIKE GANG ON SITE!!

Ashley Palmer has her learner’s license which allows her to ride a motorized scooter on her own. Ashley loves her scooter and loathes the bus so for Ashley it is rain, snow, sleet or hail! Okay snow is pushing it, however she is one determined rider who will ride her scooter regardless of the wind, rain or hail! She wears her biker gear to keep safe, helmet and all.

Ashley is hoping to have her driver’s license by this fall so she won’t have to bus it in the snow this winter – good job Ashley we are all pulling for you to pass that exam.

SEEING THE BRIGHT SIDE IN EDMONTON

We’ve had a bit of a baby boom at Fastfrate Edmonton. Aly Thomas became a first time parent with the birth of her child in January. Demi Bernardez and Philippe Kaleba had the pleasure of welcoming new additions to their growing young families as well. And last but certainly not least, long time employee Doug White became a first time grandparent.

There were also a few weddings. Alisha Shea and her beau eloped over the Christmas holiday, and you should see the rock she now gets to sport! Alyssa Butt (nee. Whitlock) also got married late this spring. Please join us in welcoming the new additions to the Fastfrate Edmonton family.

HITTING THE JACKPOT IN CALGARY

Congratulations to Calgary Dispatch Supervisor Dave Hickson and his wife Kim. Dave and Kim celebrated Dave’s 50th birthday April 4th in Las Vegas. On the 4th they decided to spend the afternoon down at Freemont Street in Old Vegas. Dave and Kim went into the Golden Nugget hotel and decided to play a penny slot machine spending 88 cents a spin. Two spins in they hit a bonus round. In the bonus round they won the MEGA JACKPOT of $25,892 U.S. dollars!

Dave and Kim were treated like royalty for the rest of the day, pinching themselves and wondering if it was all a dream.

FAMILY BUSINESS IN TORONTO

In the past month, our Toronto office had a long-standing employee retire. Alexander Jakovac has been with Fastfrate since May 7, 1971 and has dedicated 45 years of service to our company. We want to wish him well in all his future endeavors and retirement.

From within our office staff, Marcy Malabanan has been part of the Fastfrate family for 43 years in our Billing Department. She supervises the computer operations and billing department and reports to Jane Mason. Marcy was first drawn to Fastfrate at the young age of 19 when she was referred by a friend who was working with us at the time. She was intrigued by the billing and computer processes and decided to give Fastfrate a try within the coding department. Under the advice of Paul Freeman, Marcy moved to billing and computer operations and worked her way up to the Supervisory role she holds today. Marcy explains that her driving force was her commitment to the “Fastfrate family” and how she felt appreciated and accepted within the organization. She was also able to complete her education while working. Regardless of her schooling in medicine, she didn’t want to leave Fastfrate and felt that our organization provided her the happiness, job fulfillment and familial environment she wanted for her career. On a personal note, Marcy had a difficult time conceiving and Fastfrate always supported Marcy with patience, time and the ability to earn a living. Now, Marcy is a proud mother to daughter, Marijoy, who also worked at Fastfrate part-time during her schooling and now works for Family Services of Peel as a Social Worker, and son Richmar who is currently studying Criminal Justice and Law. Thank you so much Marcy for your support and loyalty.

Ultimately, it is through the continued dedication and efforts of all our employees that Fastfrate has thrived in the market. We thank all our loyal employees for their relentless hard work. We couldn’t have done it without you!

BABY NAMED IN MONCTON

Owen Osmond and Mary Higgins are the proud, first-time grandparents to Ryker Rowen, the baby of their son Sheldon, our Dock Coordinator, and his girlfriend Sam. Both grandfathers (Ronald and Owen) wanted the baby named after them which is how his middle name came to be.
