Welcome to the 47th Annual Campbell RiverSalmon Festival’s Logging Sports
As logging is Campbell River’s heritage and prime industry, in 1975
the Salmon Festival introduced a Loggers Sports demonstration as part of the celebration and in 1984 it became a sanctioned competition of the Canadian Logger Sports Association (CANLOG)!
This first formal competition consisted of 1 Canadian Championship, 15 events and $5,000 in prizes. Popularity and support for the event began to grow each year and in 2004, with a prize package of $25,000, the Salmon Festival’s Logging Sports event hosted it’s first

World Championship. In 2005, it hosted 2 World and 7 Canadian Championships, 31 other events and over $30,000 in prizes ranking it No. 1 in Canada. Today this competition is still ranked No. 1 in Canada and is ranked No. 4 in North America.
Although an impressive record, the World Class Competition would not exist without the support of the city, sponsors and spectators.
Thank you for making it possible.

Salmon Festival’s Logging Sports
On Sunday, Aug. 10, the Logger Sports events at Nunn’s Creek Park held annually during the Campbell River Salmon Festival will be recorded by The Lumberjack Company (who produce Lumberjack TV) and then licensed for distribution all over the world.
According to Jim Lilburn, current secretary/treasurer of the Campbell River Salmon Festival Society, the footage will be licensed to TSN for a one-year period.
TSN is planning to air the show this coming autumn—once on their main
channel, and then twice on their sister station, TSN2—and then again in the spring, using the same platforms and broadcast schedule.
The show will then be licensed to various other broadcasters, such as the Outdoor Life Network (OLN) in the U.S. and organizations as far away as Australia and The Philippines, to broadcast to their own audiences.
Then the footage will then live on YouTube for all eternity.
The international promotion of the region
doesn’t stop there, however.
The Dutch program Ruben vs. Geraldine, a reality television show based in The Netherlands, has sent the two competitors on a cross-Canada trip, engaging in various competitions against each other along the way.
The show, according to Lilburn, “Is kind of like Amazing Race, except it’s just the two of them,” and at their Campbell River stop, they will compete on Saturday (Aug. 9) night in various Logger Sports events. They will be burling, single-hand bucking,
axe throwing, and doing a power saw cut and choker race.
Part reality TV and part travel show, Ruben vs. Geraldine is just another way the world will learn of the region and its beauty, as well as the friendly folks who call it home.
Combined with the international broadcasting of the Logger Sports events themselves, we’re sure to find more visitors in the region once they can call their travel agents and get something booked.
