Founded in 1991 by Wayne Adams, Adams Homes started serving home buyers in Pensacola, Florida. Throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s, Adams Homes grew its business into markets throughout Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. Since 2005, Adams Homes has expanded into markets in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. The company is headquartered in Gulf Breeze, Fla.

Drawing from more than a decade of real estate and residential construction experience, Wayne Adams formulated the company’s following core principles: You’re only as good as the people with whom you surround yourself; keep it simple; and treat people as you would want to be treated.

These core principles have enabled Adams Homes to become one of the largest, privately-held home builders in the country and are the foundation for Adams Homes . Byrom Building Corp. www.byrombuildingcorp.com Byrom Building Corp, strives to make the building process easy for the buyer. The company offers the quality sub-contractors and a knowledgeable team to work with the buyer every step of the way.

Marty Byrom has been a vital part of the Birmingham home building industry for more than 30 years. He built his first home in 1976 and founded M. Byrom Corporation in 1979. Byrom Building Corp was then formed in 2000 to incorporate commercial construction into the business.

Byrom has designed and built hundreds of custom homes in the Greater Birmingham Area in premiere subdivisions like Greystone, Woodridge, and Redmont Park. In each home, the floor plan and elevations are custom designed and different from the last. Currently, Byrom is building homes in The Preserve, a traditional neighborhood development in Hoover and on scattered sites across Homewood, Vestavia, and Hoover areas.

The hobby of collecting has always been popular. Some people collect special trinkets or figurines, while some collect fine art or limited edition books. One of this year’s trends for home is the “idea” of collecting. The focus is not so much on just one or two items, but building a decor based on finding pieces of a broader variety. People are encouraged to mix old with new, enjoy a wider palate of colors and textures, and relax rigid and formal design concepts. Collecting allows the home to reflect the person-ality of it’s owner. Spaces become so much more interesting, inviting, and warm. Each item will have its own story or special memory.

W hen Hank and Debbie Bowman drove into The Preserve for the first time, they fell in love with the architecture. “There is no other neighborhood like this,” says Debbie. “All the porches lining the sidewalks are so welcoming.” The couple was impressed with the community enough to build a home here and to hold their wedding at Town Hall. “We were one of the first weddings in The Preserve,” says Hank.

In the eight years they’ve lived in their classic Southern cottage, the Bowman family has grown to include daughters Sophie and Paige. “We live across the street from a pond,” says Debbie. “The girls love to feed the fish and geese. It’s very special that we can make it a part of our day, just by walking out our front door.”

Hank says the neighborhood offers a great way to make friends. “We don’t need an excuse to have a party. We’re always getting together to cook out in someone’s yard or at one of the parks.”

A special memory for Debbie is the spontaneous breakfast they hosted with neighbors one winter when it snowed. “We played outside and then decided to gather and make a family-style break-fast. We’ve made it a tradition to do a breakfast every year since, whether or not it snows!”

Charlie and Susan Colwell understand that neigh-bors become good friends here. “We are best friends with our next door neighbors,” says Susan. “Since Phase Nine opened, we’re talking about building new houses next door to each other. That happens a lot in this neighborhood. We would only consider moving somewhere else in The Preserve.”

Charlie believes a location close to I-65 and I-459 at the heart of Hoover’s shopping and restaurant scene contributes to the quality of life they enjoy. “We’re not stuck in traffic. We’re close to every-thing, but tucked away in the trees, surrounded by a nature preserve.”

Homes in The Preserve have his-toric details. The Bowman’s home has a front porch that faces a pond and park. The neighborhood offers more than 15 acres of parks, plus a 350-acre nature preserve.

“We’ve enjoyed a tremendous response to open-ing phase nine,” says Merry. “This new part of our community features a variety of home sizes and a wonderful new park with a stone gazebo and fireplace. It’s a great addition.”

Vickie Reid, also a RealtySouth agent on site at The Preserve, says the builders and their commit-ment to excellent construction is a key to the neighborhood’s popularity. “We have some of Birmingham’s best builders creating these homes,” says Vickie. “Because our architecture is authentic to historical details, it takes a dedicated craftsman to build in The Preserve.”

The 2013 Parade of Homes will run Saturday, April 20th through Sunday, April 28th. This year’s Parade Village will include homes by Ridgecrest Properties, Harris and Doyle, Wood and Hastings as well as the Ideal Home by Byrom Building Corp.

For more information on The Preserve, visit www.hooverpreserve.com or call the on-site sales and information center at (205) 822-9348.

Their teenage son Jack says convenience is a plus. “I can walk home from school. There’s always someone to hang out with. We go to the commu-nity pool or get something to eat at the Town Center. I’m never bored.”

The Preserve is one of the most popular destina-tions in the annual Greater Birmingham Associa-tion of Home Builder’s Parade of Homes. The Preserve Parade Village this year includes the 2013 Ideal Home, built by Marty Byrom.

“The Ideal Home includes a wrap-around front porch, an outdoor room with a fireplace and built-in kitchen, and a 3-car main level garage,” says Marty. “There are five bedrooms, five and a half baths plus a play room and a bonus room above the garage.”

The Ideal Home also offers Parade visitors a chance to see the latest in design trends and new home technology. “This home will have top-of-the-line appliances and will be beautifully fur-nished,” says Merry Leach, a RealtySouth agent who handles on-site sales for The Preserve.

Tom and Kay McCarthy moved into their new home at The Preserve at the end of June, 2012.

A veteran pilot for Federal Express, Tom loved the neighborhood, the proximity to children and grandchildren in Ross Bridge and Huntsville.

Kay, a homemaker, loved the new place

for all of the same reasons, as well as the sure sense that here was a home just perfect for this stage of their lives.

Wisconsin natives, the couple own a home in Madison, Wisconsin, where much of their extended family still lives. They also own a place in Memphis, where Tom has worked for decades for Federal Express.

Tom is a former marine pilot and he and Kay, as typical of military families, moved 13 times in 11 years. That sense of rootless-ness retreated with Tom's move to FedEx, but the couple has come to realize that this new home — built by Rusty and Vicki Fowler — seems to be just the right combination of location, style, and proximity to family.

The McCarthys recall searching through-out the region for a place to put down new roots. A walk around the lot that would be-come their new home in The Preserve was all it took. Situated directly across from the main park and pool/clubhouse and just around the corner from the commercial area, the location seemed to fit the couple perfectly.

They drew on a restaurant napkin the ba-sic outline of the house they wanted to build and the Fowlers did a great job in bringing

that initial vision to life, Tom says. While they initially did not want the

house to look too Southern from the out-side, the double porches that they settled on have now become a beloved feature of the home. The openness of porches on two lev-els really brings the beauty of the surround-ing park and neighborhood into sharp focus.

The love of nature extends to the Moss Rock Preserve, the large nature preserve that adjoins The Preserve.

The sense of Southern tradition that

holds true on the exterior of the home gives way to an interior design that is truly of the McCarthy's making.

Inside the home is big enough, yet com-fortable for the couple. The McCarthys wanted every space in the new home to have a purpose and they accomplished that with a clean, open design and furnishings that re-ally fit the space perfectly.

As for the neighborhood they have cho-sen it could not have been a better fit. They love the sociable nature of The Preserve.

Pratt City – Sustainable Rebuilding ProjectOn April 27, 2011 hundreds of lives were lost, homes were destroyed and communities were devastated. Over the past two years the people of Alabama have worked through the grieving and healing process. However, many neighborhoods still show clear signs of complete destruction left in the wake of the historic tornadoes. Healing takes time and it takes people who are willing to get their hands dirty, both physically and emotionally. Through a combined effort led by Innovative Home Builders, the city of Birmingham and Jefferson County Center for Economic Opportunity, a community is being rebuilt, and lives changed. Pratt City is being revived with new, sustainable homes that will be LEED certified.

Quality Craftsmanship, Custom touches and Beautiful appointments with your Family in Mind.Topazi October 2010Design of our home was done promptly and plans were ready quickly. Since we had the exterior design picked out… it was easy to adapt a previous home built by Rusert to our plans. The process developed by RCH to sit down and pick interior and exterior items is a fast procedure… very helpful and moves the building pro-cess on quickly. We chose outside of some of the vendors used by RCH but the acquisition of the items was handled promptly and we were always kept informed.

Since we were remodeling our lake house with RCH at the same time.. it was a challenge to keep it all straight. Thanks to Sarah Waltz and Mike Coffey we were able to sort most things out. There was never a request the we made that this company did not try to meet. The budget was developed but due to change orders that we made we managed to go over by 10%. The quality of workmanship from the beautiful trim work to the installation of lighting was all done in a professional manner. Overall, our home is beautiful and well built and RCH definitely stands behind their work. Great Job!!!

Curb Appeal within your Reach.Mills August 2012Building a Home can be a very trying experience on all parties involved. With all the subcontractors, materials suppliers etc. that must work together, there is always something not going as planned. It’s a given that there will be frustrations and bumps in the road.

Rusert Homes and their staff did everything in their power to ensure that the project stayed on track and on budget. Any issues that I raised were addressed. As a result, I have a beautiful and functional home designed exactly to my (wife’s) speci-fications. I have been in several other houses in the neighborhood, each of these visits makes it obvious the fit, finish and attention to detail is much greater in my Rusert home than other homes in the neighborhood.

The CotswoldsPeaceful living is an apt description for The Cotswolds. Homeowners enjoy the escape from the hustle and bustle, as the greatest benefit of the community. Located less than 10 minutes from The Summit and Cahaba Heights The Cotswolds is the perfect close-in location for those who would rather spend time at home instead of on the road commuting to and from work.

The PreserveMusic festivals and art shows, wide porches with rocking chairs and picnics in the park ... It’s all here at The Preserve, conveniently located in the heart of Hoover. From early Colonial and Federal to elegant Greek Revival, Italianate and Victorian styles, homes in The Preserve are based on classic American architecture. The most important characteristic of the community is not what’s built there - it’s what is not built there. The neighborhood adjoins the 250-acre Moss Rock Preserve, with miles of hiking trails and unspoiled forests.

With more than fifteen acres of green space, this USS Real Estate development (a division of US Steel) was designed with that same respect for nature. Founder’s Park includes a walking trail, playground, grilling area and softball backstop. The Town Hall serves as a gathering spot as well as home to the community swimming pool. As its name implies, nature is preserved to spark the imagination of its residents. Learn more online at www.hooverpreserve.com.

Trussville SpringsYou wake up. It’s early. But you’re not tired. You hear the river in the background. No. It’s not your noise machine. It’s the river. Surging and flowing. Surging and flowing. It’s the rhythm you know so well. And it’s calling you. You step outside. Spot the paper. No. The news can wait. You hop on the trail. The wind zips through the willows, racing you; recharging you. You’d take this morning. Over any other morning. Any time.

Because right now, it’s all about you. And that’s the way it should be. So stop just thinking about it. Stop living amongst the glossy pages you carefully cut out of home magazines. And start living in the here and now. Here and now in Trussville Springs.
