1. SCOPE:
This specification covers the design, testing, construction and supply medium voltage
switch board 12 / 24 K.V, 50 HZ equipped with SF6 load break switches and suitable
for indoor installation.
2. CLIMATIC CONDITIONS:
- Minimum ambient temperature : - 5 °C
- Maximum ambient temperature : 45 °C
- Maximum relative Humidity : 100 %
- Maximum altitude : 1000 m
3. DESIGN CRITERIA:
- 12 / 24 KV switch board for indoor use.
- The outer enclosure of the switch board shall consist of a heavy duty structural
steel framework of substantial sections and dimensions to carry safely items to
be mounted there in.
- The switch board is fully complying with latest edition of IEC recommendations as
well as other standards.
- The switch board sheet steel shall be not less than 2 mm thickness before painting.
- The enclosure doors shall be equipped with suitable gasket tape or tube to avoid
ingress of dust inside the unit.
- The paint shall be of electrostatic powder.
- The envelope is permanently sealed and filling with (SF6) gas at suitable pressure.
- The load break switch as well as earthing switch is operated by means of a handle
at the front ( one handle must be provided with each R.M.U)

- The positions of the load break switch and earthing switch are indicated by movable
mimic position indicator gives immediate information about the position of the
switches at front of switch board.
- The cables shall enter the switch board from the bottom and the incoming and
outgoing cables which are XLPE insulated, 12/20KV / 18/30 KV and having aluminum
conductors up to 3 × 300 mm2 (or as distribution company requirement).
- Degree of protection not less than IP 3x.
- In case of GIS, The tenderer shall supply the elbow joint for each L.B.S.
- In case of AIS, All main B.Bs shall be insulated by heat shrinkable tubes (Red Anti-
Track) and the connection points with suitable insulated covers.
- In case of GIS, The all L.B.S. may be in one tank or every L.B.S. on a separate tank
according to distribution company requirement (as option).
- There is a mechanical interlocking between the load break switch and its relevant
earth switch so that :
a) Load break switch cannot be switched on as long as its earth switch is in the closed position.
b) Earth switch cannot be switched on as long as its load break switch is in the closed position.
- Access to the cable compartment is possible in the “earthed” position only.
4. GENERAL TECHNICAL DATA:

5. SWITCH BOARD CONTENTS:-
5-1-Bus Bars:
The Main Bus Bars are made of high grade of electrolytic copper at least 630 A,
the ambient temperature is 45°C and temperature rise shall be according to
IEC60271/103. The Busbar connections shall Anti- oxide greased
5-2 -Load Break Switches:
A. Three (3ph) Cable SF6-GIS / AIS L.B.S 12 /24 KV, 630 A, manual drive and
complete with its spring mechanism, for the cable feeders with earthing switch.
B. One (3ph) Transformer SF6-GIS / AIS L.B.S. 12KV / 24 KV, 200 A, complete with
its stored energy mechanism with built – in fuse carriers with three H.R.C fuses
(40 KA / 25 KA with rupture capacity), three poles of load break switch are
tripping if one fuse blows.

The L.B.S. is prepared for Tele-control in case of need of SCADA system.
The Cable and transformer L.B.S motors designed to operate from external
supply ( 380/220 V+10%, -20% , 50HZ).
The ring switching operation shall be motorized as well as manual (by operating
handle) with independent fast acting operating mechanism. Closing and
opening speeds of the switch shall be independent of the speed with which the
operating motor is moved.
The mechanisms for operating the switches should be geared motors with the
possibility of manual operation without dismantling the motor
In order to prevent unauthorized access for the operation of ring main unit ,
ring switches, trip push button and local/remote buttons should be have
padlocking provision .
The padlocking provision materials should be adequately strong and compatible
with the life of ring main unit.
5-3-Capacitor Dividers and Phase Comparators:
Every load break switch cell equipped with three capacitors dividers connected to the voltage presence monitored by leds to indicate voltage presence on the cable.
There should be a facility to check the synchronization of phases with the use of external device.

5-4- Three Current Limiting ( H.R.C ) Fuses: The Transformer L.B.S. is equipped with three current limiting H.R.C. fuses.
Standard conditions of behavior w.r.t. breaking capacity
1. A powder filled fuse-link shall not emit flame or powder although a minor
emission of flame from a striker is permissible, provided this does not cause
breakdown or significant electrical leakage to earth.
2. After the fuse has operated, the components of the fuse apart from these
intended to be replaced after each operation shall be in the original state. It
shall be possible to remove the fuse-link in one piece after operation.
3. Strikers shall comply with the requirements specified in IEC 60282-1.
4. The values of cut-off current corresponding to each prospective breaking
current shall not exceed the values corresponding to the cut-off characteristics
given by the manufacturer.
5. After operation, the fuse shall be capable of withstanding the power frequency
recovery voltage across its terminals.

– Rated breaking capacity 40KA / 25 KA
Features required:
– The fuse links shall have the dimensions as per attached specification.
– The fuse link contacts shall be silvered plated.
– The fuse link body shall be of porcelain.
– On each fuse link the badge of ……EDC shall be printed.

– Each fuse link shall be equipped with a striker, which complies IEC 60282-1.
– Time-current characteristics shall be in compliance with IEC 60282-1 and shall be
offered with tender. FUSE TESTS:
– Tests shall be conducted according to IEC 60282-1 and its amendments.

5-5- Earth Fault Indicators:
Description:
The Earth fault indicator is two component instruments which consists of
transformer and the indicating electronic circuit, the transformer consists of coil

and core balance current transformer, the housing of indicating facility with a
fluorescent coated red flag, this indicator will be mounted above the (R.M.U) in
an easily visible position and will be weather proof.
Features:
- The earth fault indicator designed to operates from external supply {(380/220 v
+ 10%, - 20 % v), 50 c/s.}.
- The C.T. will be designed to give thermal protection to the indicator during
heavy earth fault, and can allow for cable fault currents up to 25 KA / 20 KA
(r.m.s.) and can operate satisfactory at cable sheath temperature up to 85 ºC.
- Cable connection C.T. with indicating system will be within the loop resistance
recommended.
- Earth fault indicator will have a core balance current transformer and an
indicating facility with a flag and 2 auxiliary (N.O) contacts, with following
specifications:
1. Two normally open aux. contacts free rated current 1 A.
2. The closing of the aux. (2N.O) contacts shall satisfy synchronization with
the flag drop.
i.e., contacts close when E.F current reaches 25 ± 10 % A, and continue
closing whether the E.F current in the power cable still flowing with this
value and the aux. A.C {380/220 v (+10%, -20%) } still present or the E.F
current and the aux. A.C voltage are disconnected by the protection
relays in the distribution switchboard.
- Earth fault indicator is equipped with a mean for testing its operation.

- The flag turns to red color in case the earth current occurs and increase of the
rated pre-set value (e.g. 25±10% A ).
- Operation a red indication will be clearly visible from a distance 2m at least in
day light.
- Indicator will automatically reset by the healthy starting transient current.

6. INSPECTION AND TESTING :
The RMU should be approved from the EEHC.
……..EDC may require its representative(s) to attend some or all of the routine
tests according to the IEC publications.
7. MARKING:
All the components of the units and enclosure shall be marked with marking
labels according to the applicable IEC standards and shall be fitted on all
components and enclosure to indicate its technical data. The unit is marked
with mimic diagram to indicate the switch type and its position (on / off).

8. DRAWING AND CATALOGUE:
All necessary drawings including layout, dimensions, single line diagram of
primary circuits shall be submitted with the offer.
Technical catalogues containing the technical data for all offered
components of the unit shall be submitted.
Graph for fuse holder with dimension and material of components should
be submitted.
9. GUARANTEE TABLES
The guarantee schedules shall be submitted one for cable L.B.S., one for
transformer L.B.S, one for the switch board.
The tenderer shall fill in the attached guarantee tables.
Any tender not accompanied with clear and complete guarantee tables
shall be rejected.
10. Nameplate
Ring main unit shall be provided with Aluminum /Stainless steel nameplate
showing the following information marked in Arabic and English:
