SEIZE THE MOMENT AS NEVER BEFORE

Accurate focusing on moving subjects3D AF puts you in control of the action. Moving subjects are kept in focus with unprece-dented accuracy as the DiMAGE A1 tracks them seamlessly along three dimensions(X, Y, and Z axes). When you’re ready to shoot, predictive focus control compensatesfor the time lag between shutter release and image capture, ensuring sharp results withmoving subjects. Autofocusing starts the moment you grip the camera and peer throughthe viewfinder, and is exceptionally fast thanks to a dedicated ASIC chip. 3D AF, onlyfrom Minolta—a revolution in digital photography. 3D AF

Anti Shake technology for increased stabilityAvoid unintentional camera shake and make the most of every opportunity. Minolta’sAnti Shake technology works wonders when you’re holding the DiMAGE A1, especiallywith telephoto images and in dim lighting. It uses a CCD shift mechanism to keep thecamera compact, and is driven by an exclusive algorithm that offers stability over awider range than conventional systems (up to 3 shutter speeds slower than the stan-dard estimate for a scene, depending on shooting conditions). A quick check of thebacklit button tells you whether Anti-Shake is on or off. A specialised integrated circuitdelivers fast response.

Wide 11 point Area AF and the world’s fastest autofocusing*During Single Shot AF operation, the DiMAGE A1 lets you flexibly frame your shot andprovides outstanding focus accuracy. Its wide Area AF is composed of 11 focusingareas. To optimise portrait shooting, the middle row is divided into 7 focusing areas andthe top row has 3 focusing areas. Metering is performed using a high precision algo-

rithm that detects your subject within the autofo-cus area. And because autofocusing starts asquickly as 0.2 seconds†, the DiMAGE A1 is immedi-ately ready for your shot. For added refinement, animproved stepping motor makes operation pleas-antly quiet. * Among SLR type digital cameras with a built-in lens system, as

CAPTURE RICHER, MORE VIVID IMAGES

Superior quality 5.0 megapixel imagesA 5.0 megapixel, 2/3 type CCD sensor is just the beginning. The DiMAGE A1 also featuresa new Minolta image processing LSI, which processes CCD signals with amazing effi-ciency. As a result, images look clearer and more natural than ever. Images capturedwith the DiMAGE A1 are detailed enough for A3 size enlarged printing (approx. 43.3 x 32.5cm, 150dpi). Colour reproduction is enhanced by the sensor’s RGB colour filter.Total CCD pixel count: 5.3 megapixels (2,668 x 1,970)

New image processing LSI and Minolta CxProcess IIA combination of Minolta technologies delivers images with superbcolour fidelity and far less noise. The new LSI accurately processesthe CCD’s complex signals to optimise factors such as white balance, gradations, and colour reproduction, while taking strong measures

against the appearance of noise in the flat areas of images. At the same time, MinoltaCxProcess II works to produce clear, natural looking colors that faithfully reflect howthe scene appears to you. This technology operates on 14 bit colour, which providessuperior reproduction of textures, gradations, and shadow and highlight area detail.

Minolta GT Lens (28 to 200 mm equivalent)When it comes to optical technology, Minolta’s renowned expertise makes the differ-ence. The GT Lens has been specifically designed for digital photography, with featuresthat harness the full potential of the CCD. This all glass APO zoom lens has 16 elementsin 13 groups, including elements to suppress chromatic aberration and distortionaround the outer edges of images. Its 7x optical zoom has a 28mm wide angle settingthat is useful for landscapes and architectural images. 2x digital zoom extends yourreach.Focal lengths are 35mm film camera equivalents.

Shutter speeds from 30 to 1 / 16,000 secondsAn expansive range of shutter speeds gives you more creative freedom. At fast shutterspeeds, the camera’s progressive scan CCD allows it to rely solely on an electronicshutter to freeze the moment. At the slower end, timed bulb exposures are extremely clear.

Flexible exposure meteringThree modes are included to ensure accuracy in diverse lighting situations. Select from300 segment metering, centre weighted average metering, or spot metering.

Tele / Wide macro imagingWith close-up shots, Tele macro is great for filling the frame with your subject, whereasWide macro captures more of the background. The front of the lens and your subject canbe as close as approx. 13cm (Tele) or approx. 21cm (Wide).

High quality continuous shootingThe Hi Speed mode enables fast, high quality continuous shooting at a capture rate of approx. 2.8 fps. Full resolution images (2,560 x 1,920pixels) can be captured in either RAW, TIFF, or JPEG format. With RAW,you can capture up to 5 images at once. With TIFF or JPEG, you canshoot up to 3 images in a single burst. JPEG capture has extra advan-

tage of being ready for the next 3-shot burst in only 1.5 seconds. Thecamera’s high capacity 64MB SDRAM can store as many as 9 images(5.0 megapixels, Fine mode), ensuring effective use of buffer memoryduring continuous shooting. When Single Shot AF or Continuous AF isselected, capture rate is approx. 2.0 fps with the live view showing onthe LCD monitor. This display provides a crystal clear view of the action.

SPEED, CONTROL, AND CONFIDENCE

Extensive flash photography plus sync terminalThe high performance built-in flash has two metering modes to choosefrom: ADI (Advanced Distance Integration) flash metering or pre flashTTL metering. The DiMAGE A1 can also be used with external flash unitssuch as the Program Flash 5600HS(D), the Macro TwinFlash 2400, or the Macro Ring Flash 1200. In addition, its flash sync terminal offers a reliable way to connectto studio flash systems, making the DiMAGE A1 idealfor commercial photography. Macro Flash Controller is required for macro flash units.

Flex Focus Point (FFP)Flex Focus Point lets you quickly shift the focus point to anywhere in theframe you like. This feature is great for macro imaging and portraits, especially when combined with spot metering. As you move the focuspoint, spot metering adjusts in tandem.

Direct Manual Focus (DMF)Fine adjustments can be made even after autofocus has been activated. With the shutter release button half pressed, DMF allows you to movethe focus point as desired. This movement is performed with the focus-ing ring.

Designed for sure handlingThe control layout promotes intuitive handling in a number of ways.Frequently used functions have independent dials and buttons to makesetting changes uncomplicated and stress free. Plus the 5 way crosskey has a separated central button to aid handling. Further comfortis provided by an extra securerubber grip. The camera bodyis lightweight, yet extremelytough.

Long lasting power supplyEnjoy the freedom to shoot over long periods. The DiMAGE A1 uses an exclusive lithium-ionbattery with a large capacity, and has the bene-fit of low power consumption thanks to its newLSI. There is also the optional Battery Pack BP-400, with hand strap, that accepts 2 lithium ionbatteries or 6 AA size dry cell batteries.

Tiltable LCD monitorThe LCD monitor has a remarkably clear display (118,000 pixels) and sim-plifies composition as well. Tilt it up as far as 90 degrees when you’reshooting at a low angle, or flip it down by 20 degrees if you’re holding thecamera over your head. Anti Shake technology ensures a steady shot.

Tiltable electronic viewfinderThe high resolution electronic viewfinder (235,000 pixels) gives you a100% field of view with no parallax distortion. To facilitate shooting, theviewfinder displays various shooting data and can be tilted up to 90degrees. It also offers an after view function, diopter adjustment, and aneye sensor that turns off the LCD monitor to save power.

EXPANSIVE DIGITAL CREATIVITY MADE SIMPLE

Diverse movie & audio recordingCapture movie clips under various lighting conditions. The DiMAGE A1 provides twotypes of movie recording with audio: standard and night movie. Clips can be up to 15minutes long (320 x 240 pixels, 27 fps). What’s more, zoom expands up to 7x (28 to 200mm) so you can capture far off subjects, while Anti Shake keeps images steady at allfocal lengths. The DiMAGE A1 can also create time-lapse movies using images cap-tured with interval recording (640 x 480 playback, 4 fps, no audio). For still images, youcan add audio information in clips up to 15 seconds long.

Digital Subject Program SelectionSelect the type of scene and let the camera handle exposure settings. Options includePortrait, Sports, Sunset, and Night Portrait/Night View. These effects can be confirmedprior to capture on the LCD monitor or viewfinder. If you wish to customise cameraoperation, other functions can be assigned to the DSPS dial.

Digital Effects Control (DEC)An easy way to experiment with the appearance of your images. With DEC, you canadjust contrast and saturation before each picture, and check the way it looks. Anadditional setting, Filter, replicates the effect of a colour filter. It can be combinedwith the camera’s monochrome colour mode to produce 11 types of monochromat-ic effects.

Digital Enhanced Bracketing (DEB)DEB produces, for each shot, a series of exposures with slight variations in steps of±0.5 or 0.3 Ev. Used with Digital Effects Control, this feature also lets you bracket con-trast, saturation, and filter effects.

User-friendly DiMAGE ViewerThe DiMAGE Viewer software makes it easy to manage, edit, and perform various other tasks with your images. It displaysthumbnails for quick confirmation, plus EXIF data and anycomments you’ve included. You can copy, move, or renameimages as you please.
