If you are using BSNL Broadband service and not happy with it as you do not get the speed whichyou have opted for then you need to know that the Broadband Speed does not depend solely onthe Broadband Plan you have opted for There are multiple factors that affects your BroadbandSpeed Here is a list of suggestions which you can use for a better experience on your BSNLBroadband connection

bsnl broadband big 400

1 For Reliability amp Speed Use following DNS Addresses

A) On Dial-up or Bridge mode Broadband connections

Enter following DNS address at Local Area Connection or Wireless Network ConnectionPrimary DNS ndash 19216811 (Filling this IP will automatically takes first DNS server from BSNL)Alternate DNS ndash 156154701 or 156154711 or 4222 or 20867222222 or 20867220220 or8844 or 8888 (Use any of these)

B) Automatic or Multi-user or PPPoE mode Broadband connection

Login inside the Modem or Router Interface and enter the following DNS address

Primary DNS ndash 156154701 or 156154711 or 4222 or 20867222222 or 20867220220 or

8844 or 8888 (Use any of these)

Alternate DNS ndash 156154701 or 156154711 or 4222 or 20867222222 or 20867220220 or

8844 or 8888 (Use any of these but it should be different from Primary DNS)

2 Check SNR Value

SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) Margin value at Downstream must be greater than 13 dB See DSL LineParameters in Modem Interface Page under the heading Overview or Device Info or Status orStatistics If value is lower than 13 dB then insist the BSNL line-man for change of line JumperVertical DP or Pair Broadband may work higher than 7 dB SNR Margin but you will experience slowspeed frequent disconnections and time out

3 Check Attenuation Value

Attenuation value at Downstream must be less than 43 dB See DSL Line Parameters in ModemInterface Page under the heading Overview or Device Info or Status or Statistics If value isgreater than 43 dB then insist for Change Phone Line (Drop Wire) Jumper Vertical DP or PairBroadband may work higher than 43 dB Attenuation but

you will experience

affected speed frequent disconnections and time out Practically itrsquos not possible to provide a linewith exact values of SNR amp Attenuation So variations could be there

4 Choose Right MTU Size (Maximum Transmission Unit)

Almost all MTU sizes (like 1500 1492 or 1480) give good speed performance among all websitebrowsing amp downloading It is defined inside the Modem or Router configuration page But oneshould preferably use 1492 as MTU in all ModemRouter connections until amp unless one faces anysignificant problem with MTU

5 Always use ADSL Splitter

ADSL Splitter must be used on a Telephone line at the subscriber premises It actually dividesmain (frequency) Telephone Line coming from Exchange into Phone (Low frequency) andBroadband (High frequency) connection

6 Right Physical Layout

Physical Layout of line must be in accordance with the technical norms followed for Broadbandconnection ie Phone Line coming from DPPillar Side must be first terminated at an ADSL Splitterin a subscriberrsquos home

8 Use Good Quality Wires

For a Telephone having a Broadband connection avoid PVC wires amp other non-Telecommunicationwires Instead Use Drop Wire (Copper) supplied by BSNL

9 Keep the line path away from any InterferenceTelephone Line Path should be away from Electrical Lines amp Electrical or ElectronicAppliancesEquipmentsDevices

10 Keep Connecting Terminals Clean

All the Connecting Terminals or Points must be Clean amp should be free from RustDust and Carbon

11 Cover JointsProper Insulation amp Tapping of Joints must be done at all points or terminations Donrsquot let anyjoints open or hanging loose in the air

12 Check Loose ConnectionsTelephone cables Drop wires LAN amp USB cables should be tightly amp properly connected for properflow of data transmission

13 Choose Right Media

For faster speed LAN (Ethernet) Cable should be preferred over Wireless medium amp Wireless (Wi-Fi) should be preferred over USB Cable for Broadband connections

14 Avoid JointsCuts

Check Telephone LineDrop wire for any Cuts amp Cracks and replace the same If possible Usesingle wire without any Joints

15 Noise free LineThere must be No Noise amp Disturbance in the telephone line Pick the phone receiver and dial anydigit and hear the sound if any Any good line has no noise disturbance

16 Use Proper amp High Quality SplitterIf SNR or Attenuation levels are not at recommended levels even after Line Change etc then tryto change Splitter to see any difference in the values Sometimes internal circuit of splitterbecomes faulty amp gives false parameters

17 Use Proper amp High Quality Modem device

Modems of different Companies or different Models of Modem have different Internal Circuitry andthey read line parameters differently So if Line parameters are not at recommended levels thenchange Modem to see the difference

The Modems like Teracom Huawei UT-Star TP-link D-link Netgear and Link Sys performexceptionally well even in poor signal to ratio conditions also That means if your house is atconsiderable distance from nearest BSNL exchange naturally the line attenuation will be more andthe cheap quality Modems would fail to perform reliably or read line profile

18 Use UPS for Stable Power Supply

Try to Use power supply from a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) for Modem amp Routerrsquos adapterto avoid any kind of power fluctuations

19 Use Correct Modem AdapterUse Modem Adapter as per the Original Current amp Voltage ratings given amp printed on Modem boxUsing low voltage or current rating adapter may cause Modem amp DSL to become unstable

20 Prefer PPPoE settings over Bridge Mode of Connection

PPPoE (Always ON) settings are much stable secure and faster than Bridge (Dial-up) settingsEven if there is High Attenuation and Low SNR the Broadband connects amp works well for most ofthe times Infact Hackers canrsquot access your PC easily in PPPoE mode connection as the Modem is

23 Disable Automatic Updates of SoftwaresIf possible disable Automatic Updates of most of the third party programs installed in yourcomputer Instead choose or change their settings to Manual updates available in theoptionsfeature button These programs sometimes run in background and consumes datawithout the knowledge of the user

24 Remove unused Software Applications

Uninstall Unnecessary Softwares like Web Toolbar Add-ons browser extensions ScreensaversWeather updates Desktop Gadgets etc as these consumes data at times

25 Install Good Anti-Virus

Use a good Anti-Virus with Internet Security suite for extra protection from Malwares As most ofthe speed is hogged by Viruses Trojans Worms Spywares Adwares etc likely present in allcomputers due to use of pen drives amp online activities

26 Choose a better browser

One should use Mozilla Firefox Google Chrome and Opera for Web Browsing which is faster saferand reliable than the conventional Internet Explorer which is embedded in windows

27 Install updates on Time

Install all Security and Essential updates regularly from Microsoft if you are using GenuineWindows Those who are using other operating system should also follow the same

28 Only one ADSL splitter per Line

Never use Two ADSL Splitters on same line for any parallel phone connections Instead use phoneextensions for using multiple telephone connections

29 Secure your Wi-Fi connection

Never let your Wireless Modem or Router unsecured Use WEP-128 bits or WPA security keysettings You may also use MAC based security Choose strong Wi-Fi password containing bothletters amp digits

30 Keep a Tab on Torrent or Hidden Softwares

Most of the torrent softwares keep running all the time in the background which may reduce yourbrowsing speed So better quit the application if its not in use
