OPENING CEREMONY
Welcome Remarks by:Adib Al-Muimen, Conference Co-Chairperson, Manager, Workover
Engineering Department (WOED), Saudi Aramco
Nathan Meehan, 2016 President
Stephen A. Colville, President and CEO, IADC
ExECUTIVE PLENARY SESSION: LEVERAGING KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNOLOGY TO MANAGE GROWTHOne of the traits of the E&P industry is its ability to seamlessly transfer its knowhow from one region to another. This is especially true for drilling, HSE, completions, well integrity and other similar practices. The E&P world is becoming more and more global, and the geographical boundaries of constraining cutting edge technologies, novel practices, and innovative approaches is disappearing with the ease of communication, ease of travel, and the need to compete in broader markets. Despite the current market conditions, the Middle East is an attractive region to further develop technologies and practices that started elsewhere around the world. The fact that a number of large projects are progressing or starting in the regions invites IOC and large international service companies to import and integrate its best practices in the region. The success of this integration is only possible when conveying the knowledge through technical staff to ensure proper implementation and transfer of learnings. The NOCs typically take advantage of this transfer of knowledge in order to timely achieve their plans in line with their country’s strategy.
Panelists:Fahed Al-Ameri, Drilling Manager, ADNOC
Omar Al-Husaini, General Manager, Drilling and Workover Operations,
Saudi Aramco
James Blaine, Middle East JV Drilling Manager, ExxonMobil
David Reid, Chief Marketing Officer, NOV
Bobby Viktorin, Vice President Drilling, ZADCO
PANEL SESSION 1: AUTOMATING THE DRILLING PROCESSAs drilling complexity has shown a demand for drilling technologies,
whereas drilling automation is becoming a necessity to improve
the operational safety factors while drilling faster, thru a continuous
automated communication process that integrates downhole BHA and
components, rig, and surface equipment.
Automated drilling delivers performance improvements to the
well construction process and helps fill the competency gaps. The
technology incorporates an open architecture for both downhole and
surface components, and is designed to ensure economic viability,
that pushes the boundaries of drilling automation which is a
“customer configurable” platform, that allows more access into more
drilling technologies to integrate in the future, with continuous drilling
optimisation.
Panelists: John Curtis, President, Petrolink
David Farmer, Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East & Asia,
Parker Drilling
Tony Pink, Vice President of Automated Drilling Applications, NOV
Hermann Spoerker, General Supervisor, D&WO Optimisation Division,
Saudi Aramco
PANEL SESSION 2: IMPORTING AND INTEGRATING BEST PRACTICES AND KNOWLEDGE TRANSFERAs the industry expands into new frontiers, the best way to capitalise on learning from previous experiences is to develop a systematic way of importing lessons learnt from operations, best practices, and technologies from other part of the world. Such practices are well defined and well established in international oil companies and large multinational service companies. They allow these companies to quickly adapt to new environments and apply new technologies and techniques with more confidence. Transfer of these practices from one region to another requires a clear understanding of the difference and similarities between the different regions and careful planning of how to best integrate these practices. In addition to information sharing and technology transfer, the transfer of staff may sometimes be necessary to ensure the best possible outcome, while developing local talent. The panel is asked to discuss some specific examples of how the import and integration of best practices and knowledge transfer has helped IOC’s join hands with NOC in a number of projects and how this helped service companies differentiate their capabilities in well established
markets.

Ehsan Akhavan, Principal O&G Strategy Consultant, Accenture
