I had a client that I was coaching recently who was sharing with me that Christmas spending always felt like a black hole to her She often went on a spending spree and was

never very clear about how much money she was spending until several months after Christmas (and that’s only if she had the courage to calculate her spending).

After coaching around the issue of her underlying need, she was able to see that she was actually buying gifts from a place of fear instead of the true space of giving and love.



What is your underlying need that you experience when you go shopping at Christmas?

Some common needs are:

1. the need for love

2. the need security

3. the need for status

4. the need for recognition

5. the need for value



Do you experience conflict around buying gifts at Christmas? Better yet, ask yourself if you experience conflict around spending or buying anytime of the year.

If you experience conflict ask yourself “What is the underlying need that I have when I buy things and spend money?

Ask yourself if there are any specific memories that come up for you around that particular need.

This will help you begin to get a sense of what is actually going on at a deeper level around your spending
