a jewel in the crown of Leeds’ heritage

the story

Spenfield House is a Grade II*-listed Victorian Mansion completed in 1877 and now situated in the Weetwood Conservation Area.

It is one of the best preserved Victorian homes in the north of England, whose magnificent interiors have been admired by poet John

Betjeman.

Spenfield house was constructed in 1876 by George Corson the architect who designed the Grand Theatre in Leeds. Corson was

commissioned by James Walter Oxley, son of Henry Oxley a senior partner in the bank of William Williams, Brown & Co., in Leeds. The house remained the property of the Oxley family until 1948, when it was passed to Leeds City Corporation and then in 1974 to Yorkshire

Water. The Greenalls Group Plc acquired the house in late 1997.

Now you can be the custodian and join the history of this magnificently restored part of Leeds heritage.

George Corson (1829–1910) was a Scottish architect active in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.
