SpiraPave® Building Hints

Decks (Joist System)• For design purposes, the total combined height of an ESP-2 (adjusted to max. height) + EA-SCT + EA-BH + 2x4” joist = 4-3/4.” This will be the minimum height to plan for at the

project’s starting point such as a door threshold or entryway.

• EA-BH supports joists between 1-1/2” and 3-1/2” wide on top of pedestal. Works with single or twinned 2x4, 2x6, or 2x8 joists.

• Pedestal spacing with different sized joists:

Joist Spacing

2x4” Joist Pedestal every 24” max.

2x6” Joist Pedestal every 30” max.

2x8” Joist Pedestal every 36” max.

Twinned 2x4” Joist Pedestal every 48” max.

• Drive fastening screw through tabs of support to fasten joist in place.

Structural Hardwood Tiles• Place pedestal along edge under tile after you snap off x2 aligned spacer tabs. Corner pedestals will typically not require spacer tabs.

• Be sure tabs fit snugly up and into space between 2 boards.

• Structural hardwood tiles are typically light weight and may rock if not fastened.

• Use the EA-TF01 to fasten down corners of each tile. * See ”Wood Tile Fastener Installation” (page 7) for additional instruction.

Natural Stone and Hydrapressed Concrete Pavers• If using a non-igneous sedimentary stone (e.g., sandstone), ensure it has appropriate thickness

to avoid failure.

• For natural stone, order extra 1mm (EA-01) and 2mm (EA-02) shims to create even surface due to unequal tolerances of thicknesses.

• Be sure your concrete paver is “hydrapressed” type.

• Always place a 2mm shim on top of each pedestal.

• Never cut more than 1/3 of width or less than 8” wide for perimeter cuts.

Structural Porcelain Tile (3/4” thick)• Always place a 2mm shim on top of each pedestal.

• Never cut more than 1/3 of width, or less than 8” wide or perimeter cuts.

Stone, Concrete and Porcelain Tile• Use a “slab grabber” tool to lift up tiles.

Correcting Slopes 1 - 5% > Using the EA-SCT Top Slope Corrector

Match the on the SpiraPave™ pedestal with the desired slope % number on the EA-SCT.

EA-SCT Top Slope Corrector

ESP -2, -3, -4, -5 , -6 only.

Rotate pedestal so that the “up-slope” arrow on EA-SCT is oriented in the same direction as roof’s up-slope.

Correcting Slopes 6-10% > Using the EA-SCT Top Slope Corrector

Use the slope corrector (EA-SCT) on both the top and bottom of the pedestal.

Add the indexing numbers together to get total slope correction.

Set the lower EA-SCT to the maximum 5% and then adjust the top EA-SCT to the proper slope.

ESP-EXT175 Extender > Extending the Height of the SpiraPave™ Pedestals

Rotate compo-nents to achieve desired pedestal height.

ESP-4, -5, -6 pedestals only.

ESP-EXT175 Extender

Match holes on pedestal compo-nent with connector pins on extender and snap together.Adds 1-3/4” height.

Firmly set spacer tab in hole on top of pedestal to secure.

Connecting Spacer Tabs

Rotate tab in any direction to achieve desired orientation.

Adjusting Pedestal Height

Hold bottom component and rotate the top component clockwise to reach desired height.

Each step adjusts height in 1/16” increments.

Wood Tile Fastener Installation > Four Steps

Step 1: Placing Tile Fasteners If the tile lock is not already free to move, loosen the screw that holds it secure until the lock can slide from side-to-side. Place the tile fastener assembly onto the pedestal and press into place. Shift the lock to one side to allow tiles to be placed.

Note: Wood tile fastener is designed to be used with pavers that have a 1/4” (6mm) edge groove.

The tile fastener is designed to sit atop the SpiraPave pedestal without adding any additional height to the pedestal assembly. When using the tile fastener, pavers will be spaced 1/4” (min. 0.2”) apart.

Step 2: Place TilesPlace the tiles upon the pedestal. With two tiles placed, shift the lock into the notches of the tiles to allow placement of additional tiles. Place the remaining tiles onto the pedestal.

Note: If the height of the pedestal support needs adjusting, it can be adjusted with the tiles in place and the spacer tab will pivot independent of the pedestals allowing the tiles to stay in place.

Step 3: Secure LockWith all four tiles in place, shift the lock until it is centered on the pedestal. It may be necessary to use a screwdriver or other tool to access the lock between the tiles. With the lock centered, tighten the screw until the lock is secure and will not move.

Step 4: RemovalWhether one or all tiles need to be removed, the lock must be unlocked. To unlock any tile, the process is the reverse of the locking procedure. Loosen the screw enough to allow the lock to slide from side-to-side. Us-ing a tool, slide the lock away from the tile to be removed. Do this on all corners or where a fastener secures the tile. With all locks moved, the tile can be removed.

Slide lock to one side.

Tiles placed atop the spacer tab. Shift lock into placed tiles.

Secured lock.

Shims > Using 1mm and 2mm Shims

Always use a 2mm EA-02 whole shim underneath stone pavers, concrete pavers, and struc-tural porcelain tiles.

EA-01 and EA-02 can be used together to create level surfaces when using pavers of vary-ing thicknesses.
