This is Easters kerygma;this is the proclamationof Easter. This is the

good news of Easter. But thisproclamation always comes witha twin, found in the stories of thepost-resurrection appearances of

    Jesus.

Mary Magdalene visited the tomband ound it empty, she thoughtthe body was taken away. She wasweeping outside the tomb. Jesusappeared to her, but she did notrecognize him. She thought he was

the gardener. Aer realizingthat he was Jesus and thathe rose rom the dead, Marywent to the disciples andannounced, I have seen theLord! [John 20:11-18]

On the evening o that rstday o the week, when thedisciples were gathered in aroom where the doors were

locked, Jesus came and stoodin their midst. Since, Tomaswas not present, the disciplessaid to him, We have seenthe Lord. [John 20:19-31]

    We have seen the Lord.

Because the Lord is alive, thedisciple saw the Lord. Te trutho the resurrection has led the

disciples to see the risen Lord,to experience his presence.Te same with us today. Teproclamation that the Lord isrisen, that he is alive, shouldlead us to an experience orecognizing the presence oJesus among us, so much so, that

we are able to exclaim in aith,We have seen the Lord! Ourconviction in the resurrectionshould lead us to see Jesus, tosee God in all things. Tis ispossible because the Lord isalive. He did not remain in thetomb. He lives and is among us.

Oentimes, it is easy to say thatthe Lord is risen, that the Lord is

alive. But an important questionto ask ourselves is: Do we seehim? Do we recognize him?In our amily? In our riends? In strangers? In the poor, inthe needy? Do we recognizehis work in our experiences? Not only during times o joy, blessing and grace, but do wesee the Lord also in our owncrosses, in trials, diculties

and pain? Tis is important: oreven i our eyes see darkness, our hearts see pain, but i ouraith sees the living God, thenthe truth o resurrection trulyabides in our lives.

Yes, the Lord is alive! But do yousee Him?

The Lord is risen! The Lord is alive!

Stewardship is a way of lifemarked by the humbleacceptance that everything

belongs to the Lord and all that weare and have are gifts from the Lord.Stewardship is living a life of deep faithand trust in the Lord, offering back to

Him, in love, gratitude and praise, whatis truly His.

Stewardship is certainly not new inOLPP. Stewardship is what sustainedthe parish from its lowly beginnings, and motivated hundreds of volunteersto serve the community, build thechurch, initiate and sustain pastoralprograms that respond to communityneeds.

Today, inspired by the miracle of theloaves and sh multiplied, and guided

by the 8 point agenda of our CubaoDiocese, OLPP embarks on a new

journey of stewardship: Five Loaves,Two Fish: Stewardship in OLPP.

This stewardship movementreminds all OLPP parishionersthat we are like the little boy in thegospel story (John 6:1-15), withour own ve loaves and two sh,

being invited to trust the Lord andshare monetary offerings, which theLord wishes to use in His wondrous

ways. This stewardship movementemploys regular giving (preferablymonthly) of an amount that theindividual freely decides as a fruitof prayerful discernment. FiveLoaves, Two Fish: Stewardshipin OLPP is a voluntary monthlypledging program.

Deciding how much to offerregularly can be a true challenge.

    We propose the KKK formula:

    a. KAILANGAN - Ano angpangangailangan? What are theneeds?;

Five Loaves, Two Fish:Stewardship in OLPP(from the Five Loaves Two Fish brochure)

    by Mario and Stella Deriquito

Page 2 March - April 2013 pirit in the WindS

    b. KAYA Magkano ang kaya kongibigay buwan-buwan? How much canI afford to offer every month?;c. KUSANG-LOOB Magkano angkaya kong ibigay ng kusang-loob?How much can I offer in gratitude

    with all my heart?

Offerings through stewardship willbe used to support BINHI, or theparishs catechetical program, where

volunteer catechists hold catechismclasses for about 700 children per

week; SIKAP (Suporta para sa Iskolarna KAParokya), our educationalassistance program for about130 students in elementary, highschool and vocational; the differentpastoral programs, such as worship, formation, family and life, social

services, youth, public affairs andBEC; the maintenance of the churchand other facilities; and later on,possible contribution to the Diocese.

Noong lumipas nadalawang buwanay narinig natin

Magingmapanuri. Itaas at ilayoang ating mga pananaw.

    Isipin ang kabutihan ng masnakararami.

At bakit, ika nga? Bakitpa tayo makikisawsawdiyan?

Jesu Polis (City of Jesus) isa summer youth leadersconference of the diocese of

Cubao held last April 03 - 06,2013 in Philips Sanctuary,Pestano Farm, Antipolo, Rizal. It aims to introduce the youthto the four tracks of formationof MYA cubao (virtue, spirit, learning and service); toheighten the experience ofthe youth in living in the cityof Jesus, an experience of theLocal Church; and to bring the

youth to a greater resolve inbecoming ambassadors of Jesus

in call of the new evangelization. MYA Diocese of CubaoThey divided the four tracks offormation per day.

Day 1 - Youth Spirituality - thewhole day focused on our identity aschildren of God and how we will livethis identity in our daily lives.

Day 2 - Youth Virtue - the whole daytaught us to stick to our Christian

    virtues despite of different situations

that challenged us physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Day 3 - Youth Learning - From ourtwo credible guest speakers we havelearned how to face problems andlook at these as opportunities to bestronger and closer to God.Day 4 - Youth Service - An inspiringstory was told to us by the Pestanofamily. We were not only inspiredhow Philip dened and lived the

word through service. We were alsomoved to be like him in our ownsimple way.

My reection:Four days living in the city of Jesus

was not easy for me, I needed to letgo of my comfort zone and lived on amountain without cellphone signal,no Internet connection, withouttelevision, without fast food andstayed with other people whom I donot know.

But my experience living in therewas priceless and irreplaceable. I

realized that I need to value what Ihave in life, what is essential is myrelationship with Jesus because

when I started to know and loveJesus I cannot do nothing but toshare it to my family, friends and toother people.

May our whole experience in JesuPolis be our stepping-stone tolive our motto as members of thediocese of Cubao, A city set on ahill cannot be hidden.

Thursday, April 11, was indeed a signicantday or Our Lady o Pentecost Parish. Wehad the rare opportunity o welcoming the

Relic o St. Terese o the Child Jesus or a two hourstay. Our parishioner, ita Remy Ignacio made itpossible.

Early on, our Church was spruced up and beautiulfower arrangements o roses were done by EdnaValdez, Nora Mendoza, Judith Lambo, Susan Pun-zalan and their crew o dedicated volunteers. Sylvia Veloso pro-vided the beautiul mantle or the table where the relic was placed. As early as 130 pm, the Church was starting to be lled up. Atexactly 3 pm, the relic, coming rom Sta. Maria dela Strada Parish, arrived at B. Gonzales gate and was warmly welcomed by a largegroup o devotees, with songs by Cecile and Cristis group. En-closed in ber glass with steel handles and weighing 132 kgs., thiswas carried by Cris Datu and his Eucharistic Ministers, togetherwith Manny Bernal and his ahanan group or a oot processionto the Parish. A shower o petals and a resounding applause wel-

comed the Relic at our Church. Welcome rites were taken cared oby Fr. Dennis, Nora Mendoza and Mae Magsanoc. Fr. Dennis gavean inspiring homily touching on the lie o St. Terese. A two hourveneration ollowed, with the Greeters and Collectors and theMother Butlers Guild providing the necessary assistance. Roseswere given to the venerating public.

St. Terese o the Child Jesus died at the age o 24. She was a nunat 15 and was canonized on May 17, 1925. She lived a hidden lieand wanted to be unknown. In her littleness and nothingness, shecompletely trusted in the Lord. She lived a simple lie o prayerand great condence in God, and believed that what is importantin lie is not great deeds but great love, doing the ordinary withextraordinary love. She loved roses and saw hersel as the littlefower o Jesus, giving glory to God by just being her little andsimple sel. She said, I will let all a shower o roses. Countlesshearts have been touched, striving to imitate her little way. She isthe greatest saint o modern times.

As a shower o petals bade arewell to St. Terese, we could eelthe happiness and peace radiating in our hearts. Yes, we experi-enced a shower o blessings at OLPP.

As you know, the duty of the conclave was toappoint a bishop of Rome. It seems to me thatmy brother cardinals have chosen one who isfrom farawayHere I am. I would like to thank

you for your embrace.- Pope FrancisFormer Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio

was elected the 266th pope of the RomanCatholic Church last March 13, 2013. Hereportedly took his papal title after St. Francis of

Assisi of Italy.Pope Francis was born on December 17,

1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied inthe Philosophical and Theological Faculty of San

Miguel, University of Buenos Aires and at theJesuit seminary of Villa Devoto.

Part of his Easter message in yesterdayspaper reads: How many deserts, even today,do human beings need to cross! Above all, thedesert within, when we have no love for Godor neighbor, when we fail to realize that we areguardians of all that the creator has given us andcontinues to give us

These are deep and meaningful wordscoming from a pope who is known for simplicity.

Along with his Easter message, there is a pictureof him cradling a disabled child held out to

him in the crowd and delightedly accepting asurprise gift thrust at him.

It is a fresh gust of wind for the CatholicChurch, which has a long way to go in healinginternal and external hurts, and restoring the

worlds condence in its leadership. However, if there is one man who can do

this, if there is somebody who can cross thedesert, it is Francis, who lives what he preachesand whose great love for the poor, his greatestasset.

We, who are his ock, must also do our part,by getting out of our comfort zones, crossing

our internal deserts, to serve and love God andneighbor. In the end, what will matter are the things wedid for others. This is the signicance of Easterand consequently, for the rest of our lives.
