Prayerfully you enjoyed the series on how Jesus can transform anyone of our lives from total darkness to a light the shines so bright the world will recognize that we walk with Jesus everyday of our lives. We spent time looking at the life of how the Rich Young Ruler wanted to have salvation in Christ but he couldn’t let go of what he owned. He wasn’t willing to hear or receive the words of
Christ, “I tell you the truth, no one who’s made any sacrifices for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age and in the age to come eternal life.” His life is a truly sad commentary of what it is not to be transformed by Christ.
Then we studied how the humility of Bartimaeus allowed Jesus to transform him from blindness to sight. He even recognized that Jesus was the Son of David and pleaded for mercy. And Jesus not only gave him his sight back but showed mercy and gave a hope he hadn’t seen.
Zacchaeus (another rich guy) showed us how to be dependent upon the transforming power of Christ and what it meant to give it all up for Jesus. And Jesus rewarded him with a visit to his home, a wonderful time of fellowship and the best of all, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.”
And lastly, we learned what Jesus meant when He called us to be servants. To be faithful in our services to the One who called us to be faithful to Him in all things. When God entrusts us with a gift, we are to use it for His glory and to be tools by which others will see who Jesus is and glorify our Father in Heaven the day He visits.
Church, allow Jesus to transform you into the light of the world. This week we will start a new series from Hebrews 11 and learn from those who allowed God to transform and remained faithful until the end.
Saved to Serve,
Tim

When you walk into a room and you look around, do you notice what you need to notice? Have you ever wondered why there are some peo-ple who can see things that other people just don’t see? It seems like some people just have this knack for looking around a room and notic-ing things that others don’t. Maybe they notice that there are three crooked pictures on the wall or three people are wearing orange shirts. Sometimes they might even notice that there’s a job to be done—like cleaning up a spilled glass of soda or emptying an overflowing trashcan. Now, what if this ability to notice things has more to do with being trained to open your eyes instead of a simple natural ability? Be-cause when it comes down to it, seeing what needs to be done is not just about training yourself to see what’s around you; rather, it should
be more about doing something about what you’ve seen.
But let’s be honest for a second, sometimes what you end up seeing are jobs that are pretty dirty, huh? Not many peo-ple like taking out the trash, cleaning up the yard after the dog has been out there, or those bathrooms that just never seem to clean themselves. But somebody’s gotta do those jobs. If they don’t, life will get pretty messy, pretty fast.
But dirty jobs aren’t just about cleaning the house. Sometimes, we see a relationship that needs to get fixed or some-one that needs some encouragement. Are we really aware of what’s happening around us to take notice and take ac-tion?
The same goes for our kids. Shouldn’t we train our children to open their eyes, to be aware of their surroundings and get involved? What would happen if we started teaching our kids how to really look at the world around them and actu-ally do something about what they see? What would it be like if our children could begin to notice things that need to be done and do them without being asked? What could happen if they look at the people in their life that need help and take the initiative to help them?

99 THOUGHTS FOR PARENTS OF TEENAGERS THE TRUTH ON RAISING TEENAGERS FROM PARENTS WHO HAVE BEEN
THERE
By Walt Mueller
IT’S ALL RELATIVE – BUT IT SHOULDN’T BE. Here’s a little phrase you may have heard from your teenager in one form or another in response to your efforts to provide parental guidance and direction: “That may be OK for you. But it’s not right for me.” Welcome to the emerging world of moral relativism. Your teenagers have been encouraged – not by you we hope – to create truth for them. In their world, the only rule is this: There are no rules. There is no universal standard of right or wrong. Rather, it’s up to the individual to determine what is right and what works for him or her. Take a look around and you’ll see evidence of teenagers living under the authority of self as they make all kinds of life-style choices. The end result of the loss of this shared moral compass is anarchy. Taken to an ex-treme, your children won’t be choosing to obey you. They’ll just be, well, choosing. While it makes our parenting task that much harder, we must confront moral relativism whenever it rears its ugly head in our children’s lives. Always be ready to lovingly and gracefully point out the contrast between God’s never-changing standard and the fluid, ever-changing personal “truths” of moral relativism.
330 MIDDLE SCHOOL STARTS A NEW SERIES CALLED MAKING OF A KING
Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 6:45 pm in the Student Center
Every good story has a hero. Think about it. Super-man. Luke Skywalker. Katniss Everdeen. They aren’t just random characters. They’re larger than life. May-be they’re not perfect, but they’re exciting and they’re brave. And that’s what keeps us interested. That’s why we cheer for them. Believe it or not, the Bible is full of heroes like that. They don’t have capes and light sabers, but they are heroes who fought giants, built arks, became spies, defeated armies, and saved the day over and over. One of the most famous ones is named David—or maybe you know him as King Da-
vid. Like many others, David’s life was exciting, epic even. And at first glance it can feel like we have zero common with him. Even on our most exciting days our lives don’t ex-actly feel heroic. But as we take a closer look at the journey of this shepherd boy turned king, we see it wasn’t always a royal fairytale. In fact, as we discover the twists and turns of his road to the throne, his life begins to look more like ours than we ever imagined.

It’s no secret that I’m a big San Antonio Spurs fan, and a big fan of their coach Gregg Popovich. I recently read an article with some interesting thoughts from his perspective of winning and losing. The 5-time championship coach actually suggests that winning shouldn’t define a person.
"In today's world, if you don't win the whole thing, whether it’s football or basketball, or this and
that, people have a tendency to paint you as a loser or act like you just robbed the cookie jar. Well that's baloney. It didn't happen for us, but is everything going to go your way in life? You think you're on the Earth and everything you want to happen to you is going to happen to you positively? The measure of who we are is how we react to something that doesn't go our way." When the Spurs lost in 2013, Popovich said he was quick to keep his team from blaming bad luck, telling
them, "You're in charge of yourself. There are always things you can do better." The team spent hours reviewing every play from Games 6 and 7 of the 2013 Finals and learning what they could have done better to have won the championship.
It’s an interesting observation that I see playing out even within my own home. There are occasional mo-
ments of discipline that turn into anger and bitterness from a small child. They can’t comprehend why they would ever have to endure such miserable decisions from the adults running (or ruining) they’re life. Personally, I take those opportunities to remind them of their behavior. I remind them of their culpability, they decisions they made that has led to their current situation. I remind them of their knowledge of right and wrong, and I finish with point-ing out that their current situation is a simple result of their previous poor behavior or bad decision making. It be-comes difficulty to remain angry or bitter at another person when you recognize the role you played in creating the situation.
And this is when I fall on my knees before a great God in thanks for what His Son has done on my behalf.
Without Jesus, I am a loser. My greatest of efforts don’t make a difference. I can review my decisions, my behav-ior, or my character and I’m never going to improve to a point where I impress the Creator of the universe. I can make excuses, get angry at why God is the way He is, or even become embittered at the idea of God. None of it changes who I am. None of it changes who God is. None of it changes how badly I need Him.
I largely agree with the principles that Coach Popovich employs in leading his team. I think you can always
look at yourself and see where you can improve. I think putting too much emphasis in winning and losing creates dangers of over-inflated ego or self-deprecating attitudes. Emphasize Jesus in your life and find victory where He finds victory. Find failure where He finds failure. And with this I believe you will also find Joy where He finds joy. Eric Gay/AP Gregg Popovich says winning shouldn't define a person. The San Antonio Spurs received a bundle of praise for winning the 2014 NBA Finals, particularly when they were just one year removed from losing in heartbreaking fashion in 2013. People latched onto their redemption from the year before. Gregg Popovich told ESPN's J.A. Adande, that he didn't think any more of his team when they won the Finals in 2014 than when they lost in 2013. He said he was "just as proud" of them for the way they fought in Game 7 in 2013 as when they won in five games last June. Popovich went on to explain how he handles adversity, and how he teaches his players to handle failure: Popovich explained how he and the Spurs often talk about entitlement and appreciating their opportunity to play in the NBA. "Because you were born to these parents or this area geographically, or this situation, you deserve more than some-body else? ... That's the most false notion one can imagine. "But I think a lot of people forget that. They think that they're entitled to what they have... So we talk about those things all the time. You have no excuse not to work your best. You have no reason not to be thankful every day that you have the opportunity to come back from a defeat, because some people never even have the opportunity." It's deep stuff from Popovich, who is often seen acting grouchy on the court or during interview. However, behind that character, he's reached the peak of NBA coaching, putting games into much bigger contexts to improve his play-ers' outlook on life.
