Reflections From the Artistic Director

finding freedoM

Sifting through the memories of my own personal past is, at times, a challenging journey. Ghosts

from my past often haunt my present, and I catch myself being overly influenced by emotional memories rather than relishing the possibility and hope that exists in the now. There is an inherent fear and danger in the past: the possibility of repeating it. And yet… finding freedom from a haunting past allows for something new and beautiful to emerge: the chance to start all over again.

The characters in The Spitfire Grill are riddled with nightmares from their past. It is, in many ways, a town cloaked in unspoken fear. When Percy enters this shrouded world, carrying the greatest weight of them all, the protective barriers of the town begin to crumble and the sun slowly begins to rise, bringing with it a renewed sense of life and hope. Though shining the light on the past is difficult, the result is profound joy, friendship, and love. After all, the greatest gifts in life and the ability to share those gifts are found when fear is overcome by freedom.

BoHo Theatre is proud to be back in its intimate Heartland Studio to share this story. If you enjoy what you see today, please consider making a donation to our company, or becoming a part of our family as a board member. Our house manager will be happy to tell you about our “Shoot the Moon” campaign. Your support is what allows BoHo and its audiences to continue exploring these stories of truth, beauty, freedom and love.

Enjoy the performance!

coming in January 2013:The play that inspired the musical My Fair Lady

PygmalioNby george bernard ShawA joint production between BoHo and Stage Left Theatres.

Henry Higgins has taken up a challenge: to transform poor, flower-selling street girl Eliza Doolittle into a poised and well-spoken duchess and pass her off at a party of the well-to-do. A social experiment of this caliber has never been attempted, but a man with a sizeable ego such as Higgins is never one to scoff at a challenge. What he isn’t quite ready to see, however, is that Eliza is a real person, not just an experiment: one with plans and feelings of her own. And one willing to use him as much as he is using her.
