ASW-SC is a non-profit organization committed to increasing community
awareness about the nature and challenges of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Regular meetings are held frequently and all parents, family members, adults
with ASD, and professionals are welcome to attend. Guest speakers provide
a forum for informing parents, healthcare professionals and educators about
issues central to the care and education of children and adults with ASD.
Meetings and events are an opportunity to come together for an exchange of
ideas, concerns, and support. We uphold the Autism Society of America’s
Option’s policy.
You are encouraged to join ASW. Memberships help fund conferences and
workshops, legislative state advocacy, referral and assistance to families,
professionals and individuals. Membership is information available on the
website.
This manual is intended as a starting point for finding services for people who have
autistic spectrum disorders. The Autism Society of Washington – Spokane Chapter does
not endorse or recommend any of the treatments or providers listed here.
As any manual of this sort must be, this Resource Manual is a work in progress. Please
contact us if you have any corrections or updates or know of any unlisted providers who
you think should be included in our next printed manual or on our upcoming web site.

Using joy and engagement to teach is the basis of the DIR/Floortime approach to working with infants and small
children with developmental disabilities. DIR/Floortime (Developmental Individual-Differences, Relationship
approach was pioneered by Stanley Greenspan). DIR/Floortime guides parents and therapists through a
developmental progression built upon six core capacities. DIR integrates an understanding of individual
differences in sensory processing, sensory reactivity, motor planning, auditory processing, visual-spatial
processing, and other areas. The foundation of DIR/Floortime is that relationships are essential to growth and
development.
