PREFATORY

NOTE

This

little

volume

is

intended

for

the

use

of

persons

desirous

of

acquiring some

degree

of

facility

in the

use

of

Hebrew

as

a

spoken

language.

It

is

not

intended

as

a

text-book

for

beginners, but

rather

as

a

help

to

those

who

have

already gained

some

knowledge

of

elementary Hebrew.

The publishers have

had

specially

in

mind

the

needs

of

persons

intend-

ing

to

settle

in Palestine, or

to

go

there

as

tourists.

This is,

as

far

as

we

know, the

first

serious

effort in

this

direction made

by

the

protago-

nists

of

the

Hebrew

Revival, and,

as

such,

this

work

is no

doubt

open to

many

criticisms.

We

are

keenly

aware

of

this fact,, and

hope

that

many

suggestions

will

come from

readers

and

critics,

which

may

prove most

helpful

when a

second, more

complete and revised edition
