to provide an opportunity for parents to understand key issues in gifted & talented education; discover local schools and extracurricular programs that support advanced learners; explore quality online and local resources relevant to their child’s abilities and interest areas; network with parents of like-minded kids and find mentorships that support their unique learners; thought leaders: provide an opportunity for an open dialogue among NYC-based thought leaders in G&T education; STEM and NYC opportunities for private and public partnerships in education.

The 2016 NYC Gifted & Talented Symposium & Benefit— one day to invest in your child’s future—is a day long symposium presented by PALNYC at the New York Law School that will help parents and educators support the cognitive, social and emotional development of NYCs high potential youth. Explore the pre-K through 8th grade educational landscape in NYC, programs that cater to the talents and strengths of G&T learners, and learn ways you can support your child's unique strengths and interests through local and online resources. 

Benefitting PALNYC, this Symposium supports programming for New York families, regardless of socio-economic status, to ensure that all families have access to the best programs and educational opportunities for their children. Parents and educators, principals, mental health professionals, education researchers, ed tech specialists, consultants, school counselors, pediatricians and pediatric dentists, school nurses, and anyone who wants

to join the conversation about supporting NYC's high potential youth. The content is relevant for parents and professionals from Pre-K through middle school. 

The NYC Gifted & Talented Symposium & Benefit includes topics on talent development, social & emotional development and how to navigate the practical matters for parents and educators of NYCs high potential youth, including: The Issues of Giftedness; 90th Percentile: Who Cares?; It's Elementary:The Official Story on G&T Options in NYC; Executive Function and Organizational Skills and much more. In addition to well rounded panels, expert speakers and the announcement of the winners of the 3rd annual Michael Perelstein Memorial Scholarship Fund’s Discover Your Passion™ Competition, the Symposium boasts a Curated Exhibit Hall. A hallmark of the Symposium and touted by past attendees to be “…a wonderful opportunity to engage with the NYC community,” the Exhibit Hall will include a sampling of NYC's finest educational programs and schools. An advisory committee comprised of select pre-K through middle school and G&T organizations in New York City ensures that the Symposium will bring quality speakers, panelists and exhibitors together for an amazing day of collaboration and networking.

The Parents of Accelerated Learners, NYC [PALNYC] is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports NYC-based parents and their children by offering educational workshops, talent development-based resources and programs, mentorships and a discovery platform for web and app-based learning tools for kids. Angelique LeDoux, MA, PALNYC Founder & Executive Director Angelique LeDoux is a writer and picture editor turned education advocate based in New York City, and the founding partner and executive director of Parents of Accelerated Learners, NYC (PALNYC). PALNYC & The P.A.L. Workshops help parents of high potential youth understand the academic, social and emotional development of their child and navigate quality programs, mentoring opportunities, education technologies and other resources for their children in New York City and beyond. She is also the founder of Jade’s ToyBox, an educational and eco-friendly children’s toy company, named to Dr. Toy’s 100 Best Children’s Products of 2010 and listed on Dr. Toy’s Socially Responsible Products for 2010. Prior to that, LeDoux was an editor at TIME for Kids Magazine, the Associated Press and writer and photographer at numerous publications. She taught one of the country’s first university courses on digital photography at Southern

Methodist University in the early 1990s and remains a supporter of technology and innovation in education LeDoux received an MA in both Journalism and Fine Art Photography from New York University; and went on to pursue a Graduate Certificate in Gifted Education from Rutgers University to better support her own advanced learner.

Shamir Khan, PhD, PALNYC Co-Founder Shamir A. Khan, PhD, a clinical psychologist, is a Co-Founder of Parents of Accelerated Learners, NYC (PALNYC). In Dr. Khan’s clinical practice, he primarily works with underrepresented and diverse adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He has served on the adjunct doctoral teaching faculty at Teachers College, Columbia University (7 years), and Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital & Nursing Facility (2 years). In 2008, Dr. Khan founded the NYC Private Schools Blog, which covers over 800 NYC pre-K-12 private schools. HighBeam Research named the blog a Top 10 Education Research Blog in the U.S. in 2011. Currently, Dr. Khan serves on the Board of the South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS), and is an advisor to Manhattan Media’s Blackboard Awards and the James Jay Dudley Luce Foundation. In 2010, he was one of the recipients of the Global Citizens Award from Orphans International Worldwide, which honors individuals who personify global citizenship in their leadership in helping humanity. Dr. Khan earned his BA from Haverford College, MS from Teachers College, PhD from Columbia University, and is a former Raoul Wallenberg Scholar at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (’96-’97).

Unable to Attend But Still Interested in Participating? If you are unavailable to be present on the day of the event, PALNYC has multiple options to increase awareness of your company, including ad placement on our Mobile App and event website. A limited number of advertising opportunities are available at the 2016 NYC Gifted & Talented Symposium. View them here or refer to the application page to see how you can participate. *NOTE TO SPONSORING ORGANIZATIONS & VENDORS: All exhibitors are responsible for set up and breakdown of materials. Set-up is between 9:30am-10:30am and breakdown is promptly at 3:00pm. Guests will begin to arrive in the Exhibit Hall at 11:00am. Additional time can be arranged in the morning for set-up upon request. The Symposium will take place from 8:00am- 4:00pm, with 4 full hours of dedicated face-time with potential parents, customers and clients, plus additional opportunities throughout the day. Additional tables may be purchased by event vendors at a cost of $450/table and additional attendees (up to 3) may be added for a fee of $65/attendee. All exhibitors are responsible for shipping of exhibit materials. Please contact New York Law School to confirm shipping details.
