White of Mer Rouge, a long­time supporter and friend of ARCO founder, Ike Hamilton. Mr. White’s daughter, Jo Lynn Stampley graciously facilitated the request. "Fleur De Lis Series: Tenacious Pride # 2” Painting by Margaret Becton I have done Fleur De Lis paintings for quite some time now because of their appeal and symbolic nature relating to our state. However, it is no secret that Louisiana has been through a lot especially in this last decade. Therefore, I wanted to represent these trials in a new Fleur De Lis Series with more meaning. You will find lots of swirling texture in this series; representing movement, turmoil, and all together solidifying rhythm. The “framing” or “border” around the Fleur De Lis represents a closed perception that many critics try to box us in with. Notice the box is eroding as if the Fleur De Lis will break away at any moment. In the center of the Fleur De Lis you will see roman numerals. This “44” symbolizes our championship beyond that of the game of football. Because of the super bowl win, our state has demanded attention and gained respect from others which only makes our pride stronger. The colors of the painting are not only representative of the worn out, tired, helpless, and darkness that once plagued our state…..but of the hope, glow, strength, and pride that has stood true and pushed us to the other side. I am proud to be from such a unique, beautiful, and tenacious state and hope that this series of paintings will reflect just that.

Dinner with our very own Governor Jindal and the First Lady Supriya Special thanks go out to the Governor’s Office and Senator Mike Walsworth for arranging Dinner for Two with Governor Jindal and the First Lady at the Governor’s Mansion in Baton Rouge along with a small group of other guests. Date for the event will be announced at a later date.

The Governor’s Mansion was built in 1963 when Jimmie Davis was Governor of Louisiana. The Mansion is located on Capital Lake near the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge. This period marks a distinct departure from earlier Louisiana architecture.

The Mansion was designed by the architectural firm of Annan and Gilmer of Shreveport, Louisiana. The inspiration for the exterior design was Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, Louisiana. Like many plantation homes built between 1830 and 1860, Oak Alley was designed with a second story veranda that was typical of many Louisiana houses.

Gentleman’s Duck Hunt at Horseshoe Lodge in Mer Rouge LA Bennie Evans has invited two lucky people to come out to the Lodge in Mer Rouge for some duck hunting. The Lodge is located in a very secluded area on Horsehoe Lake. A motel style building, featuring 12 bedrooms, is connected by a raised covered bridge to the Lodge.

The Sous Chef will teach the hunters to prepare their own meals in a commercial grade kitchen. This will definitely be an interactive dinner, and they will have bunches of fun doing so. However, if you don’t feel comfortable cooking, the Sous Chef will prepare your meal for you.

For your entertainment, the Lodge offers a theatre room and comfortable bedrooms for sleeping. After a hearty breakfast the next morning, you will be ready to shoot some ducks. To increase your chances for ducks to alight where you are hunting, we have included a Jerk machine. A Jerk machine is one of the newer motion duck decoys and very popular with today’s duck hunters.
