K9 Conditioning
Workshop
Sport Dogs Saturday,
November 2nd
8am—12pm
SEMINAR CONTENT
Strength and flexibility training is the missing piece of the
puzzle for many K9 athletes. More time, money and effort is
spent on dog’s injuries than on preventing them.
In this hands on workshop, participants will be introduced to
directed strength training and body awareness exercises
with special focus on positioning of the body.
These exercises and techniques are specifically designed
to build core strength, improve balance, increase flexibility
and range of motion, build confidence, increase hind end
awareness, reduce the risk of injury and improve your dog’s
overall performance. The importance and benefits of warm
up and cool down exercise will also be discussed and dem-
onstrated.
Incorporating these exercises into your dog’s routine is
FUN and a great bonding experience. These exercises
can easily be done at home.
BETTER
If your dog is properly conditioned it will reduce the chance of
soft tissue injury, This is not to say that you shouldn’t do every-
thing in your power to give your dog timely cues and continue to
improve your handling skills and footwork. Keeping your dog
strong and balanced will help during the training process as well
as during those times when you just can’t seem to get there in time
to cue them appropriately.
FASTER When a dog is propelling forward, turning, stopping and landing
using their core muscles (the center of their movement) and using
all four legs, they will get faster. When you teach your dog where
their rear feet are, how to use their limbs properly and exercises
to improve strength, they will move with greater
precision. Faster might also mean, improved focus for the
game. Engaging your dog in a regular conditioning
program has improved focus in my student’s dogs
over and over.
STRONGER It has been proven time and time again, that strength
improves stability and lends to increased endurance in human ath-
letes. This same concept can be applied to your K9 Ath-
lete. Using a variety of exercises on a
regular schedule is the key to success!! Exercise that strengthen
the muscles above and below the joints, will improve stability and
balance. For instance, improving quad muscle strength and flexi-
bility, supports a dog’s knees during movement.
Improving your
dog’s physical and
mental
endurance will
enhance
performance.
Designing a
regular program
for your dog is
key to SUCCESS!!

Rehabilitation Center
Bobbie brings specific knowledge of the
needs of athletic dogs, as well as an under-
standing of the imperfections inherent in
each individual. She works with human-dog
teams to improve the bond and engender
deeper trust and a working relationship. I
have heard from many of my clients about
the fun they had, but also how they learned
more about core body strength. This, even
from owners of dogs with back issues
(when they took another dog to Bobbie),
when I have spent months, years even, on
core strength, but not to the extent, and
not with as challenging of exercises. Bob-
bie teaches the physical education aspect,
or sports training.
Her class is a wonderful introduction to
normal body mechanics. Technicians and
veterinarians get so little information on
how to develop and maintain “normal” and
yet we see young animals every day. My
job would be much easier if owners were
primed to think about appropriate body
mechanics and awareness with their pets’
activities. If I had the time, I would run a
course of preventative conditioning for
imperfect conformation to coincide with
Bobbie’s course.
