Britt named to IAAF World Cross Country Championship Team
OTTAWA - Athletics Canada announced a contingent of 18 athletes who will represent Canada in Punta Umbria, Spain at the World Cross Country Championship. The championship takes place March 20 on a 2-kilometre circuit over well maintained ground and through Huelva, Punta Umbria’s beautiful pine forests. Among the athletes named is our own Barry Britt (SJTC). Congratulation Barry!!
Among the athletes named to the Tier 1 of the Rising Star is New Brunswick's own Adam Gaudes! Way to go Adam! OTTAWA –Following this week’s identification of the Team 2016 Olympic Development Program, Athletics Canada announced today the athletes who comprise Tier 1 and 2 of the Rising Star and Junior squads, both key components of the road to Rio 2016. Team 2016, along with the Rising Star and Junior squads, are designed to create a development pathway to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, as well as laying the foundation for sustainable high performance success.
Each year, in partnership with the NBIAA, BNB presents four deserving high school teams
with a FairPlay award at the Final 8 Championships. The award is voted on by coaches
and presented to teams who demonstrate consistent sportsmanship towards their
teammates, opponents and officials. Congratulations to this year's award winners!

Basketball New Brunswick is now accepting applications for Provincial Summer Elite Team
Coaches. The available male and female teams to apply for are U17, U16, U15 and U15
Development. The U17 and U15 teams will attend the Canada Basketball National
Championships in Winnipeg (girls) and Toronto (boys) in early August. All teams will also
participate in a variety of competitions in the Maritimes, Quebec, and Eastern United
States. Interested coaches are asked to send in a completed application form along with
their coaching resume by March 14, 2011.
Baseball NB members inducted into Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame Miramichi, NB-Baseball New Brunswick is proud to recognize two of its own as they were inducted into the Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame. Both Billy and Brian have contributed a great deal to the youth of their communities through their involvement in sport. Billy Fleiger has devoted more than thirty years to the development of minor baseball on
the Miramichi, primarily in Douglastown. Billy’s dedication as a
coach, fundraiser and organiser has greatly benefited minor
baseball in the Miramichi area.
Brian Richard’s commitment to sport is a remarkable one.
Throughout his life, he’s been involved in the development of
Baseball, Hockey, Softball, Track and Field, Basketball
throughout the Miramichi region and beyond.

Isaac Pickell (pictured centre) of Fredericton has been named to the Canada U-17 National
team that will participate in the Wellington International Rugby Festival in England in April.
Pickell was part of a trio of New Brunswick rugby players that were invited to try out for the
National team, and included Reid Johnson, also of Fredericton, and Quentin Chown of
Quispamsis.
The Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games were held in Oromocto and Gagetown on
February 3 - 6th, 2011. The games acted as a qualifier for Team N.B. for athletes vying for a
spot to compete at the Special Olympics National Winter Games in St. Albert, Alberta in
2012, these in turn will be a qualifier for Team Canada for the Special Olympics world
winter Games in 2013 taking place in Pyeongchang, Korea.
New Brunswick had four skaters competing in the Figure Skating event at these games.
The team was coached by Mario Richard and they were very successful. Kelly Doucette
from the CPA Beresford Skating club won gold and Suzanne Robichaud from the Club
Patinage Neguac Skating Club brought home the Silver medal in the Level 2 Singles
category. Winning two Silver medals was Jennifer Roy from the CPA Beresford Skating
Club in the Level 3 Singles and Level 2 Dance (Fiesta/Willow) events. Janie McGraw from
CPA St-Isidore won gold medals in both Level 5 singles and Level 3 Dance (14 Step/
European).
Congratulations to the skaters and Mario on your achievements at these games.
Congratulations to Team NB for bringing home 16 medals from the 2011 Canada Winter Games.

The 17th annual Atlantic Coaches Seminar is being held at Mount Allison University, Sackville, NB from May 19th-May 23rd 2011. Over 2,200 coaches have attended previous Atlantic Coaches Seminars from a variety of different sports. The following 6 Competition Development Theory Modules will be held at the 2011 ACS!

The Investors Group Volunteer Sport Administrator Award
The Investors Group Volunteer Sport Administrator Award will be presented at the ACS during the Awards Luncheon on Saturday, May 21st. The award recognizes the contribution to community sport programs made by a dedicated volunteer who has given countless hours of time so that coaches and athletes can enjoy the benefits of well-organized sport. The nominee demonstrates outstanding commitment and service in an administrative capacity for a club, organization, or event, resulting in a strong impact on the community for coaches and athletes. Submissions by the Atlantic Provincial Sport Organizations, Sport Clubs, Sporting Event Committees etc… are encouraged to forward nominations for this award. Nominees will have demonstrated outstanding commitment and service in an administrative capacity for a club, organization, or event, resulting in a strong impact on the community for coaches and athletes. Nominators forms will be available on www.coachnb.com. The recipient will automatically become eligible for the Investors Group National Volunteer Sport Administrator Award, which is presented at the annual Sport Leadership Awards Dinner by the Coaching Association of Canada.
