The circle of accountability will not merely be extended to those who don’t pay tax but also government will be held responsible for every penny which will be spent. Progressive system of tax collection will automatically urge the business community to pay their taxes. Nobody will be charged unjust tax. Youth is indeed our real strength in New Pakistan. I just hope that the in- terns who have completed their intern- ship in Programme of Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) will be able to con- vince their communities that paying tax is their moral duty and will play the true role of true ambassadors for the government of Punjab. We just need hope for a progressive Pakistan and our youth is “The Hope”. He expressed these views while ad- dressing the Completion ceremony of the 4th Internship Programme of Pun- jab Revenue Authority (PRA). The Minister said, I must appreciate Punjab Revenue Authority which has taken the lead over many other organi- sations in introducing such a wonderful internship programmes. These programmes are not only nec- essary for the development of trained workforce but they also help spread a soft image of the tax collecting agen- cies which is the need of the hour, as majority of the public somehow get frightened from such tax collecting agencies and are therefore reluctant to pay their taxes. Minister said that the new Govern- ment is going to strengthening the insti- tutions for a stronger Pakistan. He congratulates the students on their passing out. Chairman Punjab revenue Raheel Ahmed Siddiqi, in his address said that this Internship Programme has been a part of Punjab Revenue Authority’s Youth Engagement Programme since 2017 and ever since we have been con- ducting one batch each for Junior and Senior students. This year around its gives me great pleasure in stating that it is the first time where due to the overwhelming re- sponse and inflow of numerous appli- cations from different private & government institutions and also from different provinces we decided to initi- ate two different batches for both Junior & Senior Internship Programmes. Analyst Ahsan Mehanti at Arif Habib Corp said pressure remained in scrips across the board on weak earnings out- look amid surge in local power tariff and higher gas tariff. “Banking stocks out- performed on higher banking spreads,” he said. Investor concerns over falling FX reserves data, weak global crude oil prices, dismal data on oil and cement sales for Aug'18, unresolved circu- lar debt crises and foreign out- flows played a catalyst role in bearish close, he said. The Pakistan Stock Ex- change's (PSX) benchmark KSE 100-share Index closed lower 411.62 points or 1.0 percent to 40,854.77 points against 41,266.39 points recorded in the last session. The highest index of the day remained at 41,416.69 points while the lowest level of the day was recorded at 40,794.09 points. KSE-30 Index also de- creased 224.22 points to 20,098.41 points against 20,322.63 points. Turnover dropped 29 million shares to 120.86 million shares from 159.67 million shares. Trad- ing value decreased to Rs4.61 billion from Rs6.94 billion while market capital narrowed to Rs8.48 trillion from 8.58 trillion. Out of 378 companies’ active in the session, only 80 closed in green, 283 in red while 15 remained unchanged. One analyst said the bear- ish sentiment made its mark on the last day of the week as well. Investors were found concerned about belt tighten- ing by the govt amidst macro- economic weakness, which made institutional investors sell positions in blue chips. Besides selling in E&P scrips (OGDC, PPL and POL), heavy selling was observed in Cement and Fertilizer sectors. OGDC’s result failed to gain investors’ interest and not even PPL’s discovery could steer investors towards it. Engro Polymer and Chem- icals Limited’s (EPCL) noti- fication about setting up Hydrogen Peroxide project, which is likely to rival De- scon Oxychem Limited, caused selling in DOL and buying activity in EPCL. Highest increase was recorded in shares of Philip Morris Pak XD, which rose Rs118 to Rs3,598 per share, followed by Shield Corp that increased Rs11.85 to Rs248.85 per share. Major de- cline was noted in shares of Colgate Palmolive XDXB, which fell Rs89 to Rs2,550 per share, followed by Pak To- bacco that decreased Rs54.85 to Rs2,395.15 per share. Significant turnover was recorded in stocks of Fauji Cement, Engro Polymer XD, Unity Foods Ltd, K-Electric Ltd, Pak Int Bulk, Fauji Foods Ltd, TRG Pak Ltd, DGK Cement, Nimir Resins and Ghani Auto (R). Fauji Cement remained the volume leader with 13.94m shares with an increase of 27 paisas to Rs24.51 per share. It was followed by Engro Poly- mer XD with 7.97m shares with an increase of 37 paisas to Rs32.88 per share. Shares’ turnover in the future con- tracts increased to 57.33m shares from 44.66m shares traded in the previous session. The Business Report ISLAMABAD: Prime Minis- ter Imran Khan on Friday said that the country is facing severe water crisis as the Pakistan’s biggest issue is water scarcity. In his video statement to the nation, PM Imran Khan said that he had been taking presentations on national issues, adding that there is no doubt today that we are at a crisis situation. He said that the country’s debt has soared to Rs30,000 billion but one of our biggest issues to date is the water issue. “When Pakistan was made, every Pakistani had 5600 cubic metres of water but today that stands at only 1000 cubic me- tres,” he added. Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan went on to say that we have storage capacity of only 30 days for water; whereas the safe period for water storage is 120 days, adding that India has ca- pacity of 90 days. This is why making the dam for us is so important. “Pakistan could face drought like conditions by 2025 if dams are not constructed now,” the prime minister said and added if we didn’t construct dams, ex- perts say that we will not have money to grow our crop, to feed our people. Imran Khan lauded Chief Jus- tice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar for taking initiative for construction of dams which was primary responsibility of the politicians. Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan appealed all Pakistanis, including the overseas ones, to financially contribute for con- struction of dams in Pakistan that are vital for country s future generations. The prime minister also asked overseas Pakistanis, especially those living in European coun- tries and the United States to contribute at least one thousand dollars in the fund created by Chief Justice of Pakistan. PM Office orders probe into fake notification about govt employees The Prime Minister’s Office has ordered an inquiry into the issuance of a fake notification about the termination of govern- ment employees. The fake notification was doing the rounds on media on September 5 when it said no of- ficial except court orders would be sacked from their office. It was reported by media out- lets that special instructions were issued to all government departments in an order issued by Prime Minister’s Secretary Azam Khan. According to the purported orders, anyone working in any government department whether on permanent or contractual basis would not be sacked, while any action against government employees should also stopped till further orders. China assesses a 16 percent value-added tax on some exports, so a rebate of 16 percent will mean exporters get back the full amount paid. “This is in effect to negate the impact from US tariffs,” said Mei Xinyu, a researcher at a think tank affiliated with the Commerce Min- istry. UHS to begin master degree programmes

LAHORE: Commis-sioner Lahore Division saidthat administration must gethelp of law to eradicate dif-ferent types of resistances toabolish the declared danger-ous buildings in Lahore Di-vision.

He directed to get writtenon walls of such buildingthose had been declared dan-gerous for residence andother uses at least as an im-mediate step. He also di-rected to coordinate with thegovernment departments likerailways, Auqaf and Rev-enue etc about dangerousbuildings issue.

He said to prepare a workplan about the declared dan-gerous buildings at divi-sional level and said thatregularly that would be re-viewed.

‘Tree plantation campaign

Chief Secretary (CS) Pun-jab Akbar Durrani on Fridayplanted a sapling in LahoreMuseum as part of the ongo-ing tree plantation campaignin the province. The Punjabgovernment had set a targetof planting 30 millionsaplings in three months.

Speaking on the occasion,the Chief Secretary said thatthe campaign is aimed atpromoting plantation and cit-izens should take part in thisactivity with zeal to make it asuccess. He opined that con-trolling environment pollu-tion is a service to humanity;tree plantation is imperativeto control growing environ-mental pollution.

Action plan approved for promoting investment in Punjab

LAHORE: Minister Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal approved an action plan for pro-moting investment in the province. He made this approval while chairing a meeting at civil sec-retariat here on Friday. While addressing the meeting, the minister said that the Punjab InvestmentBoard would provide all facilities to investors and, for the purpose, rules would be amended.

The provincial minister directed the authorities concerned to prepare proposals and recom-mendations for the draft bill to cabinet for approval.He said that Punjab had huge potential forinvestment in various sectors. Mian Aslam said that hurdles would be removed in the way of pro-moting investment and a system would be put in place so that investors did not face any diffi-culties. He said every possible steps should be taken to attract local and foreign investment andfor this purpose old system would also be changed. Secretary industries, Punjab InvestmentBoard chief executive officer and all officials concerned attended the meeting.

KARACHI: Six ships, OOCL Washing-ton, Hans America, Sea Pace, MaritimeTutinga, Thomson Gas and Palu carryingcontainers, Palm oil, Coal, LPG and LNGCoal were arranged berthing at Qasim Inter-national Container Terminal, Multi-PurposeTerminal, Liquid Cargo terminal, EngroVopak Terminal and Engro Enlengy Termi-nal respectively on Thursday. Meanwhile twomore ships CMA CGM Blue Whale andWhite Purl carrying containers and LPG alsoarrived at outer anchorage of Port Qasim dur-ing last 24 hours. A total of ten ships namely,

OOCL Washington, Hans America, Sea Pace,Daranee Naree, Sakizaya Miracle, UniWealth, GP Asphalt-II, Thomson Gas, Paluand Maritime Tutinga are currently occupy-ing PQA berths to load/offload Container,Coal, Rape seeds, Palm kernel, Bitumen,LPG, LNG and Palm oil respectively duringlast 24 hours. Cargo handling registered onupward trend at the Port, where a cargo vol-ume of 197,429 tonnes, comprising 162,336tonnes import cargo and 35,093 tonnes, ex-port cargo inclusive of containerized cargocarried in 3,205 containers (TEUs), (1,358

TEUs imports and 1,847 TEUs exports) washandled at the port during last 24 hours. Fiveships OOCL Washington, Hans America,Daranee Naree, GP Asphalt-II and ThomsonGas are expected to sail on Friday in the af-ternoon.

Four ships, CMA CGM Blue Whale,CMA CGM Rigoletto, Sun and Ney Yorkcarrying Containers, Coal and Chemicals areexpected to take berths at QICT, PIBT andEVTL respectively on Friday, while anothercontainers ships Nicoline Maersk is due toarrive at Port Qasim on Saturday.
