The West’s Premier Head & Horns Competition Returns to the Central Oregon Sportsmen’s Show®

Calling all hunting enthusiasts! Do you have a trophy in hiding? The 2012 Central Oregon Sportsmen’s Show in-vites you to bring heads, horns and antlers to the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center, March 8-11 to vie for records and prizes at the highly anticipated Head & Horns competi-tion.

Attracting more than 300 new entries every year, hunt-ers can bring in their heads and horns for scoring. Horns must be attached to the skull, found within the states of Oregon, Idaho, Washington or Montana, and killed under fair chase conditions. Prizes are awarded in two separate categories: “past harvest” for those taken prior to 2010 and “current harvest” for those taken during the 2011 hunting season.

Prizes are awarded for all three methods of harvest: rifle, archery and black powder. The top past entries for each of the big game categories will be on display throughout the show. Official entry deadline for the competition is 6:00 pm, Saturday, March 10. The winning entries will be on display at the show on Sunday, March 11.

The grand prize winner will be selected from the 2012 Washington, Pacific Northwest and Central Oregon Sports-

men’s Shows and will receive a brand new Fort Knox Pro-tector Safe Model 6031! Additional prizes will be awarded at each show. These valuable prizes are provided by Bushnell, Coast, Fort Knox, Federal Premium Ammunition, Midland and Ruger.

In addition to the competition, Northwest Big Game Inc.’s brand new display “Oregon’s All-Time Greats” will feature many of Oregon’s state record big game, including a life-size mount of the world-record bison. The display will also showcase a charging black bear taken at six yards in a

2012 Central Oregon Sportsmen’s Show Participants:

Welcome to Redmond! Once again, we are pleased to welcome you to the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and the region’s biggest sportsmen’s show.

Central Oregon is known for the number of outdoor activities that are available here — camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, rock and mountain climbing, and boating. All of these contribute to the economy of the entire region, and this show is important in that vendors and visitors come from this area and, in some cases, from around the world to participate. There is something here for every oudoor enthusiast.

I have attended several times myself. The variety of exhibits, guides, vendors and activities make for an exciting time whenever I visit. I personally like the game trophy exhibits, even if I will never have an animal on display! It is always interesting to see the new equipment available and on display. I even purchased an RV one year as a result of seeing a special one at the show. I always find the food excellent and am amazed at the many ways game and other meat can be prepared.

In closing, I wish to once again welcome you to the show. Enjoy yourself and take advantage of the amenities offered both at the show and the surrounding area.

Sincerely,

George Endicott, Mayor - City of Redmond
