IntroductionWhile talking with dinner guest, Barbara Gustafson, daughterof Judge and Mrs. Wesley Osborne, Innkeeper Peggy wasinspired to offer tribute to Edith Osborne, one of the GrandLadies on The Hill. In 1946 the Osbornes purchased an old 1860’s era ranch andtransformed it into the Inn at Sugar Pine Ranch. From themoment they opened, Edith Osborne was known throughoutthe area for her delicious chicken dishes. We are proud to pay tribute to Edith’s skill and renownthrough this new, additional menu, Chicken Offerings: Re-turn of Mrs. Osborne’s Chicken Kitchen of the Sugar PineRanch at The Groveland Hotel. Each of the five Chickendishes is offered as a meal in three courses. Although we can’tbring you Mrs. Osborne’s original 1946 pricing, we think youwill be tempted by the $14.95 cost as well as the warm andcozy comfort food.

Just a little note of interest: The picture on the cover of the Sugar PineRanch menu was found on ebay with the following comment: "Cannot finda date, but can tell you that ham & eggs with toast and coffee set you back$1.30."

Sugar Pine Ranch History“In 1946 the Peri Ranch was purchased by Edith and WesOsborne. No electricity, water or heating was in the old house. The fireplace, a jewel of the Sierras’, was their only means ofheat. In 1947 they built the first cabin, thus creating one of themost enjoyable stops along the way. The rest is history.Soon, Mrs. Osborne’s chicken dinners became famous, andtheir hospitality was known world wide.”
