GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS ARE FOR GEORGIA SCHOOLS

• Graduation requirements are set forth by Georgia’s Board of Regents which establishes the admissions requirements for Georgia’s colleges and universities.

• Students should check the admissions requirements of the particular college they wish to attend

• For example, the University of South Carolina requires a Fine Art credit

TECHNICAL COLLEGE

ACTAmerican College Assessment (ACT)•Measures classroom achievement (knowledge) in four broad content areas as well as the ability to reason and to apply problem-solving skills•Four content areas: English, Math Science, Reading•Mathematics section contains pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry•No guessing penalty and all multiple choice•Four sub scores with a composite score ranging up to 36 points•The writing test, which is optional, measures skill in planning and writing a short essay.•Visit www.act.org for more information•COST IS $36.50 ($52.50 with the Writing)

TEST PREPARATION RESOURCES

• We recommend students take both the SAT and ACT in the Spring of their Junior year, decide which test is right for you and take the test again in the summer and/or fall of Senior year. In addition, there is a free assessment which can tell you which test would be better for you!

DUAL ENROLLMENT• Allows students to take college courses in lieu of high

Please keep in mind that some schools, like Kennesaw State University, require Dual Enrollment students to have taken the SAT/ACT. KSU’s application deadline is January 15th,

so be sure to sign up the SAT/ACT before the January deadline.

COLLEGE FAIRS100 Black Men of Atlanta 2013 College Fair is Saturday, October 4th, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) – Building C-4 (off of Northside Drive in Atlanta).

Turner Chapel AME Education Ministry College Fair is Sat. Oct. 27th , 2012 from Noon-3 pm, at the Chapel in Marietta

East Cobb Area High Schools will host a spring semester College Fair at Sprayberry High School on March 2015.

NCAA • Academic Credentials + Amateurism Status = College Eligible

• What are the Academic Initial-Eligibility Requirements?

• 1. Graduate from high school;

• 2. Complete a minimum of 16 core courses;

• 3. Present the required grade-point average (GPA) (see the sliding scale in the Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete for each Division);

• 4. Present a qualifying test score on either the ACT or SAT (see the sliding scale in the Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete); and

• 5. Complete the amateurism questionnaire and request final amateurism certification.
