Ua Ao HawaiiWords by Larry Kimura Chant melody by Kalena Silva Kau e ka wena o ke ao i ka lani The announcement of dawn appears as a glowing streak upon the heavens, He wekeweke i ka p pilipuka It is a narrow opening in the darkness heralding the day, He elele o ka poniponi hikina It is a messenger of purple glimmer from the east. Kau ke khea wanaao i ka laapapa Streaks of red stain long cloud formations, Lai ana i luna o ke kkulu o ka lani l Reposing serenely upon the pillars holding up the heavens; O kau ia e huli alo nei i ka ulu I turn to gaze upon this, focusing on growth and the rising of a new day, Ae, ua ao . Yes, day has arrived. H mai l k mlamalama Bestow upon us your radiant light I ka honua nei i ka mauli ola Here upon the earth, filled with the spirit of life. Ua ao Hawaii ke lino nei Hawaii is in the brightness of day, it shines, brilliant Mai ka piina a ka welona a ka l From its boundaries from the east to the west. Khiko ia i ka ike manomano It wears as its finery a myriad of knowledge, Ka ike kliu mai o kikilo mai Of deep insight from the depths of antiquity. O kau n ia o ka plama My sole duty is to embrace and to cherish, A paa ma ka ipu o ka ike . So it may be firm in the repositories of enlightenment. Ae, ua ao . Yes, day has arrived. He mele no Hawaii ua ao. This is a poem for Hawaii which has seen the light of day.

3.
