1965 BHS GRAD PUBLISHES

Mike Cameron, Class of 1965, has authored a bookentitled "Public Bonehead, Private Hero," availableat: www.sportingchancepress.com. This is an inspi-rational story of a rookie in 1908 who was wronglyaccused of a base running mistake and became theNo. 1 scapegoat in sports history. Fred Merkle stoodtall against extreme lifelong abuse. It's also a fun ridethrough a spectacular year, baseball's greatest pen-nant race and most famous game, and many colorfulcharacters. "Mr. Cub" Ernie Banks and award-winning author Rick Telander are among those whoendorsed the book, which received a glowing reviewfrom the Library Journal. Cameron pitched for theBroncos and was sports editor of the Barrington Cou-rier-Review and Countryside papers. WGN, Fox andvarious publications will feature the book in the com-ing weeks.

BHS THEATER PROJECT

Two years in the making, and anarchive of history restored, theBHS Performing Arts Alumni willreturn to the Richard C. JohnsonAuditorium to stage a "Once in aLifetime" show that is being pro-duced, written, performed andstaged by all BHS PA Alumni. Thissummer Barrington will see thereturn of over 500 alumni for theweekend starting Friday. July 9,2010. The Gala Benefit, "TheAlumni Show", will be the amazingcenterpiece to this reunion.

This unique celebration of the per-forming arts program and it's stu-dents, faculty and their familiescovers over 6 decades of history.Scenes of past productions includeFiddler on the Roof, South Pacific,Man of LaMancha and Les Miser-able to name a few. The Project’sgoal is to raise $50k to create thefirst BHS PA Alumni Endowment, resulting in an annual award to aBHS Senior for his/her contribu-tions to the performing arts pro-gram. A Matinee has been added toaccommodate the children and par-ents of alumni. The Matinee willbe Sat. July 10 at 2pm.The show is in two 1hr. acts andwill include over 100 alumni. A seg-

ment honoring Philip Mark and theChoir program promises to fill thestage to sing "Still, Still, Still", thesame number that is performedtoday at the end of each holidaychoir show. A video documentaryon the early years of the perform-ing arts at BHS and it's foundingdirector, Richard Johnson, will re-veal the sweep and vision of oneman, determined to establish thepursuit of excellence at BHS in theperforming arts. The cast of the '93Man of La Mancha has offered tohost a tribute to 6 decades of fac-ulty as they sing "ImpossibleDream". Each segment will be in-troduced by it's original BHS lead.A segment will pay special honor toChildren's theater at BHS and willhold special sway for the many inthe audience who experienced theirfirst theatrical performance at BHSin the auditorium. This volunteeralumni effort speaks volumes ofhow this program affected so many, for the good! The Village of Bar-rington has contributed greatly tothis project by making the buildingat 141 W.
