I recently had the privilege and the pleasure of watching two of my grandchildren while their parents were busy tending to life’s many responsibilities. While I was enjoying my grandson play with his favorite trucks and was impressed with his sister’s dancing, I began to think about ten or twenty years from now. I found myself wondering if they, as teenagers and young adults, would become involved at the Irish Cultural Centre, a place that has had special meaning in my life. After all, every organization relies on the next generation to sustain itself, and the Centre is certainly no different. I thought about how important this place has been to my family and wondered if my grandchildren would benefit from all of the work that so many of us have done at the Centre to establish quality programs and activities that promote our Irish culture. Perhaps the only way to ensure that the next generation enjoys all that the Centre has to offer is to get them involved at a young

age. This idea was evident when I watched hundreds of children at the ICC on St. Patrick’s Day delight in the music, dance and entertainment of the day. Surely this participation can be reinforced throughout the year, especially with activities such as the Children’s Celtic Summer Camp, the Festival’s Kids Village, the Halloween Pumpkin Parade, Santa’s Breakfast, and other holiday celebrations. As a result of these experiences, I found myself energized and committed to the idea of making sure that future generations in my family, and in yours, are involved in cultural programs that preserve our Irish heritage. I hope you will join me in this effort by passing along information about our wonderful children’s programs, especially our upcoming summer camp. Our success relies on you!

Tenon Tours wants to help you make the best decision when it comes to purchasing airline tickets online for your trip to Ireland.

1. Shop and Buy Early During Peak Season

The best time to purchase airline tickets online is especially important during the holidays and summer months, when travel to Ireland is at an expectant high.

TRAVEL CORNER

Best Time To Purchase Airline Tickets Online, Tips & Tricks

2. Shop Early and Buy Later The best time to purchase airline tickets online is six to eight weeks prior to departure. Airlines start offering cheaper seats about four months prior to departure for domestic flights and about five months prior to departure for international flights.

3. Know When to Buy The best day to buy airline tickets online is either Tuesdays or into Wednesdays. Fare sales are often launched on Monday nights, so try hunting after midnight. Other airlines will have matched their prices by Tuesday morning, and after Wednesday, prices will typically increase.

4. Flight Capacity You can tell if your desired flight is empty or full, by starting to buy airline tickets online and choosing your seat. This way you can tell how many seats have already been taken. If the plane is fairly empty, then you will have time to spare before you need to make a commitment and purchase your airline tickets online.

5. When to TravelThe least expensive days to travel are on a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, while the most expensive days to travel are on a Friday and a Sunday.

SLAMDiabetes Boston Classic WIFFLE© Ball Tournament is coming to the ICC on Saturday, July 13, 2013 and you won’t want to miss it! This all-day event is one of several being held throughout New England to increase public awareness of Type 1 diabetes (T1D) and to raise critical funds for programs focused on making

life better for people with this lethal disease. The tournament offers fun for participants and spectators alike by using portable wiffle© ball stadia modeled after iconic parks like Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium, and is highlighted by wiffle ball played like baseball, Opening Ceremonies, a Home Run Derby, championship playoffs, special guests, great food, music and activities.

“The ICC is proud to partner with SLAMDiabetes on this important initiative,” said Mary McTigue, ICC Executive Director. “Type 1 diabetes is generally misunderstood by the public. There are millions affected by this difficult disease in the US and over 20,000 children and adults in Ireland who struggle daily to cope with T1D.”

Jeff Kolok, co-founder of SLAMDiabetes and dad of two children with T1D, can’t wait to get going: “The ICC community has come together and are wonderful to work with. We know that we’re going to have a positive impact on many people’s lives through this event.”

Interested in playing? Anyone can create a team, but slots are limited, so get registered! To learn more about team registration and volunteer opportunities, you may call the ICC at 781-821-8291, visit www.slamdiabetes.com or email SLAMDiabetes at [email protected].

Mark your calendars, save the date and stay tuned for more details on what promises to be a fantastic day at the ICC!
