MERCURY Mercury Cleanup for a broken bulb: All children, pets and pregnant women should leave the room. Open any windows or doors. Do not use a vacuum cleaner. Wear plastic gloves to pick up the glass pieces and debris. Place any glass or debris in a zip lock bag. Use damp paper towels to wipe up the powder and mercury that remains in slow, sweeping motions. Place the paper towels in a zip lock bag and seal it. Pick up any remaining mercury with the sticky side of duct tape. All materials used to clean up the broken bulb should be sealed inside zip lock bags. Label the bags and bring to the Fairgrounds Pollutant Collection or to a hazardous waste disposal company. Be sure to wash your hands after clean up.

COMPOSTING Composting is the natural decomposition of organic material. With a bin or pile, a backyard composter turns waste like grass clippings, leaves and food scraps into a rich soil additive that can be used to make a more beautiful and healthier lawn and garden. Composting can range from almost effortless — just piling organic matter in a corner of your yard to sophisticated, by mixing various ingredients to get the right nutrient rich results.

ELECTRONIC WASTE COLLECTION The M.e.t. is now accepting electronic waste (e-waste) at our Central Tulsa location at 34th & Sheridan. E-waste can be defined as electronic products that have become “unused” or “unwanted” and can include many variations of products. This is a pilot program with Natural Evolution, Inc.

Acceptable Items: cameras, computer batteries, computer towers, printers, copiers/scanners, fax machines, keyboards/mouse, laptops, microwaves, phones, power cords, small appliances, UPS systems and VCRs/DVD players.

Unacceptable Items: air conditioners, large appliances, items over 40 pounds, light bulbs, monitors, refrigerators and televisions.

FAIRGROUNDS POLLUTANT COLLECTION The M.e.t. collects household hazardous waste at the Tulsa Fairgrounds, Gate 7, at 15th and Sandusky, by the old Driller Stadium. In order to create a safer home, commmunity and plant, this event occurs biannually in the spring and fall.

Acceptable Waste: cooking oil, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, household cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, automotive fluids, small ammunition, smoke alarms, aerosol paint, stains, pool chemicals, mercury, medications and non-latex paint.

Please transport pollutants in the trunk of a car or the bed of a truck. Be careful while transporting chemicals. When you pull up, trained volunteers will remove pollutants from your vehicle for you.

Unaccepted Items: tires, latex paint and commercial waste.
