Spring 2018 Welcome to the start of a new semester! We have cleared winter solstice and daylight is on the upswing. It is now time to set intention and goals for the new year. Thank you for choosing to invest in building knowledge and skills that will help you advance on a pathway of personal and professional growth. This wise decision helps to meet family, community, and state needs in challenging times. The College of Rural and Community Development is pleased to welcome you as we embark on another semester of learning.

At CRCD, we offer a personable, supportive and high quality educational experience. This semester’s schedule presents the courses available to you by the following: Audio Conference, Web, Blackboard, Blackboard Collaborate, Video Conferencing, and often a combination of those listed. I would like to thank all of our partner organizations and the State of Alaska for ongoing support of post-secondary education and workforce development. Off-Campus Library Services Off-Campus Library Services provides research assistance to UAF students, faculty and staff when they are not in Fairbanks. If you reside outside of the Fairbanks area or if you are traveling outside of the Fairbanks area, are your connection to Rasmuson Library. Through the Rasmuson Library web page you can link to almost all of the library resources: http://library.uaf.edu. If you need to speak to someone you can call 907-474-7406 or 800-478-5348. REGISTRATION INFORMATION

To register you may use the fillable registration form available from the CRCD website, pick one up from your local campus, print one from UAOnline (if you are a UAF degree-seeking student), or use the one attached on the last page of this registration guide. All degree-seeking students and students working with one of our cohorts, (ie., Social Work), will require a signature from your advisor or the cohort department. We also accept an e-mail from them to attach with your registration form. Once your form is complete, please turn it in to your local campus or the CRCD Vice Chancellor’s Office in person, by FAX or by e-mail. When your form is submitted you will be set up to register on-line. Semester-based distance education courses are offered through the College of Rural and Community Development and our associated campuses: Bristol Bay Campus, Chukchi Campus, Interior Alaska Campus, Kuskokwim Campus and Northwest Campus. These distance-delivered courses provide faculty led instruction through a variety of distance education technologies. Students will likely have set meeting dates and times, in-class discussions, and scheduled exams and assignments. These courses offer the advantage of faculty to student and student to student interactions in real-time to enhance learning and provide a broader perspective on the topic. Courses may use one or all of the following delivery methods:

Audio Conference Blackboard/Moodle Blackboard Collaborate Web Meeting

Audio Conference: Students participate in class by dialing a toll-free number and pass code at a pre-arranged time and date. Blackboard may be used for announcements and/or grades. Students should contact the instructor for more information. Equipment Required: Telephone or headset with microphone, computer with Internet access. Blackboard or Moodle: Instruction is delivered online through a website such as Blackboard or Open Source LMS such as Moodle. Requirements for the speed of your Internet connection or frequency of access will vary. Contact the IT or distance help desk at your campus or the campus offering the class for information about how to access your course website. Equipment Required: Computer with Internet access. Blackboard Collaborate: Is a web collaboration tool used for conducting online meeting and classes. You can look in your Blackboard Class Tools menu or visit the following: https://www.alaska.edu/oit/ How to Search for Course Online:

Select Register/Add/Drop Classes Enter CRNs for courses in Class Search and Select Complete Registration Changes

If you have questions on wait listing for a certain course or courses, or if you are unable to register online, please contact a registration representative at your local campus, or the CRCD Registration Office at (907)474-1916.

Fee Payment (all students): Students are not considered registered until all tuition and fees are paid. Students will be dropped for non-payment or if arrangements have not been made by the posted deadline. (Note: See specific information and dates in the Academic Calendar.) Tuition and Fees for the Spring 2018 Semester are as follows: Lower Level: $202 per credit for Tuition; 4% Network Fee; $6 per credit for Facilities Fee Upper Level: $244 per credit for Tuition; 4% Network Fee; $6 per credit for Facilities Fee Graduate Level: $466 per credit for Tuition; 4% Network Fee; $6 per credit for Facilities Fee

*Please Note: the Network Fee is 4 percent of tuition or fee in lieu of tuition applied on a course-by-course basis* Payment Options and Information:

Federal Student Aid, Scholarships and State of Alaska Grants appear as credits on your UAF account and are normally released 10 days prior to the first day of class.

Pay Online: Pay with any major credit card or electronic check at https://uaonline.alaska.edu. Be sure to review your account status after payment is confirmed. A 2.75% ($3.00 minimum) transaction fee will be applied to all credit and debit card transactions.

A link to the UAOnline “Statement and Payment History” page will take you to the site where you can pay with credit card or electronic check.

Pay by Mail: Mail your full payment to arrive by the last day to register/pay fees. Payments made after that will be assessed with late fees.

Pay In Person: Pay your tuition/fees at your local campus. Deferred Payment Plans: You may sign up for payment plans through your UAOnline Account under Student

Services and Account information Student Account Account Detail for Term (Semester)/Pay Term Balance Pay Now. For information on Payment Plans, visit the UAF Bursar’s office webpage: http://www.uaf.edu/bursar/for-students/payments/

If your tuition/fees, etc. are being paid by a third party, please have a Payment Authorization Form completed and signed, and submit to the Business Office at your local campus.

An electronic bill will be generated for you on or about the 15th of each month and sent via email. It is your responsibility to check your e-mail address regularly. (If you have not done so, please forward your UAF e-mail to your preferred e-mail, if it is different than the UAF email address. That way you will not miss any important emails from UAF regarding your registration, fee payment, etc.)

To view your bills at UAOnline choose “Student Services & Account Information” from the main menu, then “Student Account,” then “Statement and Payment History.”

Reviewing Your Information at UAOnline: You may review the following information at UAOnline. Items marked with an asterisk (*) below are your responsibility to update at UAOnline. Inform your local campus Student Services/Registration Office of any other changes.

Name: This is how your name appears on your official records. If your name is listed incorrectly, please inform your local campus.

*Mailing Address and Phone: Keep your mailing address and phone number updated by making changes at UAOnline. This is the address your books will be mailed to.

Permanent Address and Phone: Make sure this address and phone numbers are correct. Attend Class! You may be dropped if you do not attend the first class and have not received prior approval from your instructor. Making Changes to Your Schedule: You may contact your local campus regarding changes to your schedule, OR, you may make changes on the web, following the deadlines found in the Academic Calendar.
