The flight to Paris

• We flew on Air France, directly from Atlanta to Paris, France

• We left at 6pm and arrived in Paris at 830am local time.

• There are 6 hours difference between Atlanta and Paris.

• So what time is it now in Paris?

DAY 1 –Arrival in Paris

We arrived in Charles De Gaulle Airport, very jet lagged…It was 230am for us …We visited Air France Headquarters and had lunch at their cafeteria, overlooking the runways. Charles de Gaulle Airport is the largest European Airport.

Day 2- Normandy

• We drove over to Normandy from Paris which took 2 hours

• There are a lot of tolls…about 10, for about 50 Euros Total

• 1 Euro= $1.35, so how much was the toll for the ride to Normandy?

Day 3- Caen

• We visited the Castle of William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy.

• This is the castle that William the Conqueror built before he left to conquer England, to defend his own territory in Normandy , in France . William built this castle around 1050 AD.

• Large moats are built to protect against the enemies and wood draw bridge are the only way to get into the castle

Day 4-D-Day Beaches

• We visited Utah Beach, St.Mere Eglise, Omaha Beach, its US cemetery, and the Pointe du Hoc

• With us, was a friend whose father had landed on Utah Beach during World War II

• We found his Platton’s name on the monument.

Day 4- D-DAY-June 6th, 1944

Day 4- Memorials

3000 US Soldiers died on Omaha Beach, on D-Day…

Day 5- Family Day and Rock Concert

• We had dinner at my grandmother’s house

• And went to a Rock Concert in tribute of ACDC, Kiss, Led Zeppelin and Metallica

• The French love Rock….

Day 6-8 – School..

• I stayed with a French family for 3 days, going to school with their son, Quentin, in 9th Grade.

• School days vary depending on the agenda as each day is different.

• At lunch, you can come home or have lunch at school which is like homemade food….

• A “Middle School” in French is called a “College”.

• Kids learn at least 2 foreign languages.

Day 9 - Versailles

• Louis XIV had the French government moved to the Palace of Versailles in 1682.

• During the French Revolution in 1789, the Royal Family had to leave Versailles and move to Paris.

Day 10 - Paris

• We went to see the Eiffel Tower• We also shopped some for our trip

back• And a final tour of a park, honoring

the USA…

Our flight back to Atlanta…

• We left Paris at 1030am and arrive back in Atlanta at 230pm.

• It was over 9 Hours flight time all during the day this time….

Something Important I learned…

• French People love Rock• Their history is very old….• French people in Normandy love

Americans and remember D-Day with respect and gratitude.
