Help make St. Faustina the next Doctor of the Church

Please sign the petition in back of the church! Help make St. Faustina the next Doctor of the Church. Only 36 saints have been given this privileged title, including Augustine of Hippo, Catherine of Siena, and Thérésa of Lisieux. St. Faustina, through her diary on the Divine Mercy, has opened up the Divine Mercy of Jesus Christ to the world. The Divine Mercy Shrine in Stockbridge, MA will mail the petitions to Pope Francis in Rome. If you haven’t had an opportunity to read her diary – We urge you to do so! Jesus spoke to this humble nun from Poland about His Divine Mercy and she has given us a wonderful opportunity to learn about it as well.

Thank You from the Pantry The food pantry thanks you for your generous donations of cereal over the past few weeks! Your help is always appreciated!

In addition, a bin will be placed in the back of the church in a few weeks for any donations you wish to give. (List of needed items to come!) Please consider attending this event – we think you will find it to be a pleasant evening!

First Holy Communion This year we are blessed to have 85 children who will be making their First Holy Communion in our parish. The First Communions will take place during our 5:30pm, 10:30am, and 12 Noon Masses beginning on Sunday, April 17. As members of our parish

family, we welcome these young people and their families to the Table of the Lord's Supper. We ask that you please pray for these children and their families that they may be ready to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus for the first time and may always seek to be nourished by Jesus, The Bread of Life.

Registration for 2016-17 Religious Education Registration forms for the 2016-17 school year were distributed during our final classes. If your child was absent at our final class, the forms were mailed to your home. Please be sure that you have your family registration packet, so that you can be sure that your children will continue their journey of faith If you have a child that will be entering Grade 1 in September 2016, now is the time to register them for classes. You can do so by coming in to the Parish Center and speaking to Diane or by emailing Anthony ([email protected]). If you know of anyone who has children who have been away from religious education, invite them to speak to a priest, Kristen or Anthony to find out how they can get back into the program and continue their faith journey.

How Can I Keep From Singing? Today we continue our Easter Joy by celebrating the Fourth Sunday of Easter. At the 10:30 and 12 noon liturgy and several liturgies over the next 2 weeks, our second graders children will be receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time. Congratulations to them and their families. A special welcome to all who are visiting St. Mary’s!

Two of today’s songs have been selected with the Sacrament of First Communion in mind. The gathering song “We Come to Your Feast” can be found both in the first communion booklet as well as the worship aid at the doors of the church. You will also find the words to our communion song “We Are One Body.”

The offertory song connects to the lectionary gospel for the Fourth Sunday of Easter. (Today’s readings can be found beginning on page #157 in the Breaking Bread Hymnal) The text of this song; “Because the Lord is My Shepherd” (#458) is based on psalm 23. Its’ lilting style and reference to the Lord as Shepherd and friend is an interesting variant on the words of the psalm and is especially appropriate for our First Communicants.

Your participation; particularly your singing is an essential part of our worship:

…..because singing is a way of expressing both the corporate nature of the act of worship and the intense union to be achieved between God and the Church in Christ through the Holy Spirit. It is a union so intense and total that it is described as a union between lovers whose nature is best expressed vocally in song (no. 39). Singing is also an act, which unifies and focuses the individual (no. 39), thus encouraging that "participation in body and spirit that is conscious, active, full, and motivated by faith, hope, and charity" (no. 18).

"2010, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Based upon Roman Missal Formational Materials provided by the Secretariat for the Liturgy of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, "2010.

It is also an inspiration to me as well as all of the musicians who provide music. I encourage you to continue to sing out boldly.

Blessed to be serving at St. Mary's,
